We just got back from Christmas eve at my BIL's house. We enjoyed the evening with his family and a good time was had by all. On the down side, ;) my MIL was there. She started the evening by overtly criticizing my nieces basketball team and supporting the team of her favorite granddaughter from another town. My nieces team "plays dirty" and the other team are good sportsmen. (not true).
Then she calls DS#3 by the name of DS#1. (She is not confused and it wasn't a slip of the tongue). Then she proceeds to berate me for not putting Chelsea to sleep because she is old and is "suffering". (she isn't). All in the first half hour! I don't believe in euthanasia for humans but, there are times that I think I could be persuaded!!
:rotfl2: Have a Merry Christmas everyone and don't stay up too late!!

Sounds like a good time had by all! Mine wasn't all that joyous either.. everyone seemed to be in a bad mood...

Mothers-in-law sure do know how to put a damper on the festivities, don't they? I try to give mine the benefit of the doubt but I'm pretty sure it is not accidental. However, after all these years, it pretty much just slides off of me.

Me too. What's good is that everyone noticed it and she was an "equal opportunity offender". ;) We bought her some very nice cologne, which she liked, but it like "putting lipstick on a....." oh well, never mind. :rotfl2:

I guess sometimes I forget how lucky I am to not suffer from the stereotypical MIL.

My MIL was a pain today too. Oh, well, I won't see her until Easter. Yeah!!!

Sorry yours was not pleasant. We had a wonderful time at in-laws this evening. Hope that the rest of your holiday is wonderful!

My mother-in-law is a very nice lady and I'm grateful for her. I won't comment about my sisters-in-law. ;)

With regard to my SILs. I really, really like two out of three. DH's sister is just like his mother. ;) Enuf said!! ;)

Some of you know the story that my MIL is refusing to come over today for Christmas. But last night she did call and say, "oh, I have colon cancer. I found out 2 weeks ago" why would you call and say that then????? :confused3

These stories are the very reason I try to be wonderful to DS's fiancee. She and I went shopping together and I let her pick out her own Christmas gifts which I later wrapped and put under the tree. This way I know she'll love them. I also got her a few little surprises.
I try to never criticize. She loves my son and I say if he loves her, I love her. I hope we continue on this way over the years. I do try hard.

Trying makes all the difference in the world!!! My DM is not prefect, but my DH knows she tries. He actually defends her to me sometimes. I plan to try really hard when my kiddos grow up and marry
