We stayed at the BWI 12/23-12/27. I really enjoyed the resort overall and would stay there again. We reserved a standard room and were assigned to a room overlooking the parking lot (5263 I think). This room was very centrally located and a short walk from the elevators. We went to bed around 10:00 the first night and within 10 minutes I started hearing a loud mechanical noise. I wasn't sure what it was and after a while I fell asleep. I woke the next morning around 5:30 and sure enough at 6:00 it started again. I went down around 6:45 to talk to the front desk and realized that it was the elevator. We were on the opposite side of the hall and about 4 doors down, so I was really surprised that we could hear it so well.

I explained the situation to the front desk and they agreed to move me (according to them they were at 80% occupancy). They gave me my new room keys right away and I went to check it out. This new room was 1336 and overlooked a quiet pool. It was not so centrally located, but I later discovered some shortcuts to get around and it wasn't so bad. The room was in an exterior building (we had to go outside to get there no matter which way we took). We were the only people on the first floor of this entire building. I couldn't believe it....I was thrilled. No noisy neighbors and I wasn't so stressed about my kids making a little noise (within reason of course).

POSITIVES
Location, location, location. It was such a great place to be. If the weather was better and there was more going on at the Boardwalk this place would be hopping!

Community Hall. It took me a few days to find this place, but it was great for the kids. They had regularly scheduled activities and crafts for the kids!

Size of the resort. This resort was so easy to get around. Even my room in the boonies was a short jaunt to the lobby and the large pool.

Housekeeping. Our room was always cleaned in a timely manner and done very well.

NEGATIVES
I found the Staff here very slow to respond to guests. Many times I would pull in and have to find someone to valet my car. This happened twice when there was no other car in sight and several valets were just standing around. I had to approach them and ask them to take my car.

When I went to check-in (no one else was in line) several staff members looked up and smiled at me, but none called me over to help me. I stood there for at least 4 minutes before someone finally called me (there were 3-4 available agents).

When I switched rooms, we were in a hurry to get to the parks and packed everything very quickly. Two days later I realized one shoe of a pair was missing. I called the front desk and they transferred me to a voice mail for lost and found. I left a detailed message with all the info (previous room, current room, description of the missing shoe). Two days later, I still hadn't heard back from them. It wasn't bad enough to keep me from staying there again, but it was a little surprising.

Not a negative about the resort, but a comment about our situation. I choose BWI for my teenage son because I thought there would be a ton for him to do. Ironically, he disliked it. He thought the lobby was boring and that there were no kids his age there. We went to the AKL for Xmas and he said that was great. Go figure.

Anyway, Happy New Year to all and I would be happy to answer any questions.

must be something with those elevators!!

few years ago rented a 1BR BWV room. we were situated right next to elevator. Nice location peaceful. went to bed around 11:00 pm and as soon as I hit my head on the pillow I heard this horrible "mechanical" noise.

and yes, it was the elevator going up and down Now how stupid was that!!
they put the bedroom adjacent to the elevator.
Needless to say, I slept in the living room with DD and sent DS in with DH.
we moved following day.

I was the only one in the family who was disturbed by the noise. DH slept through whole thing. Infact, he said it was soothing.
so go figure.

We are staying at the BWI in September. I've been reading the boards to find which rooms seem to be the best. Note to self: Ask for room away from
any elevator!
Thanks, Bobbi

If you have standard view booked, request an Epcot view in the courtyard, upper floor. See this picture from allearsnet: http://www.allearsnet.com/acc/bwi3.jpg

I stayed there one night before moving to BWV for a DVC stay. They put us in a room on the 2nd floor right next to the walkway to the bus stop. People were constantly walking by our balcony. Since it was only 1 night and we didn't get there until after 4:00, I didn't request a change. I didn't have any requests other than non-smoking. The location was convenient, close to the lobby but being so close to the walkway was bad. The room itself was very nice. We packed up the next morning, had the bellman store our luggage and then checked into BWV, worked out well.

I had that same elevator noise situation but was in a room that had a partial BW view near the elevator bank. In all honesty I was the only family member who heard it because DH,DD and DS were so tired every night they dropped right off to sleep!

Also, much to our regret we only found the community hall on our last day! :guilty:

We have stayed BWI twice but plan to try YC next time for a change and for SAB.

Glad you had a nice stay! Thanks for posting. I'm staying at the Boardwalk again in May! I can't wait!

Welcome back! We were at the BWV from 12/26-1/2, and also had a problem with the slow valet service. They never seemed to be in a hurry! We always had to wait for them to take the car, then it seemed like it always took a long time for them to bring it around (we would call from the room, then head down). Did you happen to see the lights on our balcony? We were on the 4th floor in the Crest O' The Wave section (facing the boardwalk).

The only exterior building is the garden suites.

That's what I was thinking too... but I haven't stayed at the BWI since 98 so I thought maybe I was losing it. :earboy2:

I don't even remember seeing that Community Hall when we stayed there. I remember using the quiet pool, I guess I just thought that building behind it was the pool maintenance building or something.

Looking at that map it doesn't look like any of the rooms are exterior. I remember being able to see the Garden Suites just below our regular room and they had doors that were exterior, but I didn't see any other rooms like that. Maybe the OP will come back and tell us! :)

It probably is the building labeled W on the map. Community hall is definately on the villa side next to the quiet pool. There is a detached building with rooms in it next to the quiet pool on the inn side. I believe it is only two stories. While sitting at the quiet pool, I remember seeing housekeeping and room service going in and out of it.

Interesting... I wonder what room category those rooms are? Garden view?

We stayed in that detached building several years ago. It actually had a hallway on the second floor that connected with the main building, but it was easier to go through the courtyard to the main building as there was no elevator to the hallway upstairs that we could find. It was a very quiet and lovely place to stay right by the 2 story rooms with the little gardens and by the quiet pool.

OooohhhhhKay!!! I know what you're talking about now. It's connected at the second floor! ;) I know that area. :wizard:
