Just thought I'd post some of my opinions and experiences at the Boardwalk and Grand Floridian.

Boardwalk-- 4th floor room/ 2 queens and small daybed
Lovely room decor and very quiet...never heard neighbors. I like that the resort is basically contained in one building (one of the reasons I really like WL and AKL too)

Room overlooked courtyard with view into Epcot from which we watch Illuminations our first night.

Great location for those who enjoy MGM and Epcot. We walked to the parks each day and beat the boats every time. This feature is way up on our list of great things about this hotel, because our luck with waiting for monorails and buses during our 9 days at WDW this trip was dismal (we always seemed to have just missed one as waits were usually 15-20 mins).

Boardwalk is very quiet during the day and most kiosks are closed until the evening. Very lively at night with lots of families taking surry bike rides and others just enjoying the atmosphere.

Missed having a fast-food place in the resort, but made do with sweets from the Bakery and Seashore Sweets in the evening.

The Main pool was very pleasant and didn't feel crowded at all whenever we went by or were there. The waterslide is the best one we've ever been on at a resort (way better than the Poly, GF, WL, AKL, or CBR).

There is a lot to look at throughout the resort. The pictures, bookshelves, artwork, etc were really nice.

Great hotel. We would like to try and stay here again.

Grand Floridian--2nd floor, Sago Cay facing the Monorail line
Lovely room decor (Wind in the Willows) and great service in the room (early cleaning each day and turndown at night). However, the walls are quite thin here. The first night I awoke at 4am to hear a toilet flush and then shortly thereafter heard 3 more. It became ridiculous how many flushes you could hear while we stayed there... We also could hear our neighbor's wake-up call, took them 4 rings to answer the phone. I can't imagine why the designers/builders didn't manage to plan more insulation for an expensive hotel like this.

The location is nice for those who plan to spend a lot of time at Magic Kingdom, but for anyplace else...it is too far out of the way. As mentioned above, we had numerous long waits for buses while vacationing. Then the drive to our desination was always a good 20 or more minutes (TL, DD, AK). Return trips necessitated stops at the Contemporary and the Polynesian.

The resort itself is beautiful. The grounds are very well kept. While there we saw grass beds turned overnight into planted beds. Touch-up painting on the interior of the Main building was on-going. There was always someone doing something around the resort. I've never seen so many visible workers at one resort (groundskeepers, bellmen, housekeepers, etc)....it is a busy place for those who work there. We made good use of the covered porches around the Main building for commuting from our room to the monorail....keeps off the rain, but also cuts down on the number of steps taken as the walkways are not as direct. Also found that we did not have to go through the main building to get to the bus stop....we took the path around the circle drive between Sago Cay and the Conference center (didn't really look like a Guest path, but cut down on time and distance considerably and we noticed many conventioneers using it too).

We enjoyed the marina several times (when the weather cooperated). The staff there was very nice and it was fun riding the mouseboats around the lakes.

We made extensive use of the Gasparilla Grill. The order and wait method there is a bit confusing and could be tuned up (giving out numbers or creating a line or something). The food was fine, not special, but worked for us. We used our refillable mug a lot and were glad to be in a close building. I wish the arcade was not in the room with the tables though, much too hyper...we usually ate outside where it was the birds who were hyper.

We took the time to get our kids Pastel Portraits done in the lobby. Katherine did a very nice job of capturing our children's essence. It did take a good hour for each child though, so if you plan to do this, bring something to keep yourself busy (I played cards and read the newspaper).

I used the Spa for a facial and manicure/pedicure and enjoyed both experiences (new to me). The women who worked with me Katie and Anna, respectively, were very nice and did a good job.

We used the walkway to the Polynesian a couple times (kids stayed at Neverland one night and we did the Luau one night). Very nice way to travel. Saw a lot of rabbits on the lawns.

Overall our stay there was very nice. My only real complaints were the toilet noises and the distance GF is from other parts of the World (we planned to stay mostly around the area while there, but venturing away just took too much time/effort if that had been the only resort we stayed at). We will not likely be back to stay here because of these things, the price and the fact that we've been there-done that now.

Hope this helps anyone who is interested in these resorts. I'll check back to see if anyone has any questions.

Great report! If you don't mind my asking, how much were the portraits, and did the kids have to sit still for them the whole hour? Thanks!

Thanks for the great reviews! Both resorts are on our wish list, sounds like you had a wonderful trip!

Wilmabud---We had the portraits done on one large board. The cost was $150 for the two kids. The cost for a single is $75. There are other options available and are posted at the sitting place. There is usually someone working from noon-10pm. The kids did need to sit still most of the time (one at a time). She let them have short breaks to stand and stretch and they didn't really have to hold the "pose" the whole time as she concentrated on different parts of the face at different times (she'd tell them when to smile). They can ship to your home via UPS, Fedex or US mail (so you don't have to worry about carrying it home) for an extra cost.

Thanks for sharing. I am staying at the GF for two nights on my birthday. I think it is the prettiest resort in WDW:D

How was the Luau ? We have that booked too.:D

Thanks for your report. I am pleased you enjoyed your stay at the Boardwalk - we will be there two weeks from today. Originally, I had booked the YC, but we've stayed at the BC before, so I thought it would be fun to try something new. We have a waterview room and I'm hoping it will overlook the Boardwalk.

Glad you had a nice trip.

The Luau was GREAT! I loved it and was kicking myself for not bringing the videocamera. The costumes, music and dances of the traditional island dances were wonderful. The storyline was a bit overacted and maybe a bit silly, but it worked. The food was also much better than I had anticipated. I think you'll enjoy it.

I can't remember my room number off-hand. I'll look to see if I wrote it down somewhere. On my reservation I had them put: upper floor, courtyard view and that's exactly what we got.

Did you have any problems with proximity to the elevators? On some of the posts people have complained about how far it was to the elevators. We are going in November and I would like to be sure we are in the best location possible. Thanks for the info.

You're lucky that's all you heard...we heard what when on "before" the flushing as well ;)...not very pleasant. We found the rooms noisier there than any others we've stayed in, including ASMu.

Sounds like the transportation hasn't improved either since we stayed there. Those were our only complaints about the GF...we loved it otherwise. I don't know if I'd spend the money to stay there again though.

Thank you for sharing your trip experiences ! We are doing a very similar trip next year....7 nights at GF and then over to our very favorite, the Boardwalk Inn. Did you stay at the Boardwalk first, then GF? And was your room a garden view at GF? Our plans at the GF are to do all MK stuff while there and take advantage of the spa, and California Grille via monorail and the restaurants at the Polynesian. We know we will love the GF but also know we will be more than happy to be back at the Boardwalk. We also love the main pool at BW. Did you go to the quiet pool on the Inn side? I think it is the prettiest and quietest "quiet" pool at WDW!

Great report!
We stayed in Sago last summer and I would agree about thin walls - we could hear someone snoring in the room next door!
Of course they had to hear our 2 yr old ds so I guess it was an even trade! LOL!!

I love the GF it is magical!!

Great report, thanks. I agree about BW - we love it too, but darn I wish they would have some kind of food court their. It's not bad in the evening when you can buy from the vendors, but other than the bakery, not a lot available quickly for breakfast.

Great report! We stayed at BWI and GF in January. They are both such beautiful resorts. I agree with you about not going back to GF. It was beautiful and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay there, but for the $$ we won't return ( and we got a really good rate of $199/night).

The BWI however we LOVED! We loved it so much we bought into DVC and are going back in October.

Thanks for sharing!

minster22--We did stay at the BW first (3 nights) and GF last (5 nights). We tried to concentrate on doing the parks/activities that were close to each resort while staying there, but it just couldn't work out that way and thus the bus rides.
We did not try out the quiet pool, the two kids are into slides and water features, so it didn't appeal to them....though we did go over to look at it the first night.
Our room was supposed to be a garden view room (the stay there was part of a WDW trip prize) but I think it may actually have been termed a lagoon view as we had water outside our window.

Our room at the Boardwalk was not far from the elevator at all, once you walked off the elevator into the hallway, our room was to the right about 6 rooms down. Seemed very convenient. Looking out from our balcony though, I could understand how some rooms would definitely be a hike. I still don't know the room number but I think it might have been 7428....does that sound right to anyone who knows something about room numbering?

-HM

I think the room numbers start with the floor number... we were in 5269 which was 5th floor, BW view. Maybe your number was 4728 which would have put it on the Epcot viewing side of the hall??

Thanks for the report, very nicely detailed.:D
Glad you enjoyed your trip.

OK---- Looked up the room number and found that I do have a faulty memory (don't know why I thought we were on the 4th floor). Our room was on the 5th floor and was room number 5278. It had a balcony with a striped awning over it and looked out at the courtyard and Epcot's Worldshowcase. Also did not have a connecting door to another room, so had an extra dresser.
