You know the saying if anything could go wrong it will. Well that's what happened on the BIG EASY.. But let me just set up characters etc first...

CAST of 7 not the DWARFS, but sometimes act like it...

Kathy (Me) -- Long time Disney lover and this makes trip # 13 I think, I loose count very easily (checking my signature is the only way I can keep track, but from time to time I think I have left some off??? and forgot to go back and put them on), plus 3 trips on DCL . Anyway yes I am the main Disney fanatic, especially after taking DS10 (my 1st son, all older ones are actually step sons, but they claim me, so they are my sons) for the 1st time at age 1 and returning at age 2(really hooked). I am a city worker and feel like I go some what crazy sometimes with so many kids in the house.

DH Lee -- This is my second husband and I love him dearly. He is not a Disney fanatic like me and just can't seem to understand the concept. With My ex and I that was the only thing we could actually always agree on and it was the only time we never faught was in Disney. The magic really does wonders sometimes. Anyway, this makes DH's second trip there and I keep trying to get him pumped with no avail.

DSS20 Justin -- Justin just turned 20 the end of June and he is Autistic. If you have caught me on any of the disability threads then you may know that. Loves Mickey Mouse and Rollercoasters. Has been saying "road trip" and "mouse" and "castles" for a few months now even before we definitely decided we were going. If you saw my Pre-Trip he marked days off the calendar when no one was looking (so he thought) hoping that we that it was sooner then it actually was.

DSS18 Thomas -- Just turned 18 middle of July. He is more interested in NJROTC (Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corp ...I Think I got that right). Also loves skateboarding, Halo and other video games.

DS10 Chris -- The next Disney Fanatic only cause he has been almost 2 times his age times to Disney, also went to Disneyland with his Dad last year. And he has basically grown up at Disney, most of his milestones were at Disney. WALKING< POTTY TRAINING> and so on. He achieved them all in Disney. WOW....

DD6 Allison -- Also a Disney Fanatic. Watches Disney Channel 24/7 if would let her. If not she watches Disney DVDs. Loves all Princesses, Pooh, Tinker Bell and thinks she is a princess for real....

DD 11 months -- She is a couple of weeks away from being a year old but celebrated her Birthday in DW anyway, just to make it extra special. Spoiled rotten by her daddy (DH), even though he won't admit he does spoil her.

This was a last minute trip made just 55 days before. I had DVC points that were going to expire and needed to use them. So we decided to just take a relaxing trip (NO PARKS), so I decided to book a Fort Wilderness Cabin since there is other things to do over there and the points came out to almost exactly what I was about to lose and I wanted to save the rest for next years trip. So we decided to just do pool and camp fire and just play things by ear and ADR's were almost impossible being FREE DINING and all plus way less then the 180 days most times were booked up at any of the places that I really wanted to go. So anyway we just decided to cook out on the grill at cabin and make some pans of baked ziti and play the rest by ear. Leftovers could be warmed up.

So that includes the setup for our trip.

TO COME:

CRISPY CRITTERS, MISHAP MALLS, CHEAP CAKE

wonderful cast of Dis people and great start..........anxious for more:goodvibes

Well if you read my pre-trippie, everything was kind of hectic the day or 2 prior. Nothing was getting done in the time frame needed do to storms, etc. But we finally got alot of it done. Oil got changed in the SUV FORDZILLA... However it did not get cleaned, but we packed the rags and wax, just in case we had the opportunity once we got there to run it through a car wash at a gas station and then dry it and through a coat of wax on it. Inside got half way cleaned out but not vacuumed.

Anyway the day of events...
We really wanted to get on the road by 6pm on August 1st so that we could arrive in Orlando bright and early, have breakfast and then check in at FW relatively early. Well that didn't exactly happen. I had called my friend the day before to see when she wanted to take my dog Sheba, because she was going to take her while we were gone. She asked me when we were planning to leave and I told her and she said to get up with her tomorrow night and she would either come pick her up or we could drop her off. So I called her about 4:30pm and she said how close were we to leaving. So I told her we were finishing up cleaning out the junk we did not need out of the truck and then was going to pack in what we needed. She asked how long. I said a couple of hours. She said she had to go into her second job and to call her when we were ready to leave and she would come pick her up. 'OK'. Called her when we were ready to go and she has to much to do and can we bring her by there. 'OK'... Started to get everyone loaded in and low and behold DSS18 and DS10 wanted to fight over who was sitting where. OH NO we are not going to have this the whole road trip. 'I will dictate where and when who will sit where'. By the time we get the dog's leash, the dog and load everybody in SUV now it is 7:00. Then we needed to top off gas tank so that we are good for awhile. DOG IS VERY NERVOUS FOR SOME REASON....I think she realized something. DSS18 is sitting up front in passenger seat (of course) he decides to take the dog and hold her. We almost get to the gas station when dog pooooooooohhhssss all over his lap...:lmao: ... I know its not funny...but it kind of was. YEAH She was nervous all right.. We pulled into gas station and he got some clothes out of his suitcase and changed and came outside with the messed up ones. He walks over to the dumpster that was there and threw them in it. OH WELL... all fueled up and on to friends work. Dropped off the dog and now it is almost 8pm. 2 HOURS LATER THAN WE HOPED FOR. Popped a DVD in the player and we are on the road.

Got almost an hour out and everyone is hungry. OH YEAH WITH ALL THE COMMOTION NO ONE ATE DINNER. Stopped at HARDEES {paused dvd} and sat down and ate. THERE IS ANOTHER HOUR. Now its 10pm and back on the road. {hit play on dvd} Shortly younger ones are asleep (DD11months and DD6) and we are now going good. FOR NOW>>>>

to be continued.........ROAD TRIP PART 2

CHAPT 1 continued

The road trip was going fairly well. The 2 youngest slept until early morning. The rest eventually fell asleep after several movies. popcorn:: Including a Star Wars Marathon--Couldn't sqeeze in 1/2 of 5 or none of 6 though.

The sun was just starting to rise and we were almost all the way threw Georgia just a few miles to the Florida line....YIPPIE!!! We get into Florida and now its just shortly after 7 am and the sky is not looking good.

3RoadTrip8-2-07Storm.jpg

Everybody starts waking up about this time also. Except DSS18.

1RoadTrip8-2-07TCSleep.jpg

2RoadTrip8-2-07Justin.jpg

Then all heck breaks lose or I should say THE BOTTOM FALLS OUT OF THE SKY.....It pours down so hard you could barely see the road with the windshield wipers on full blast.

4RoadTrip8-2-07Storm2.jpg

Everybody decides they need a rest stop and then we get back on the road and then everyone decides they are hungry now. So we stop at NONE OTHER THAN CRACKER BARREL of course. Then we switch and I drive the rest of the way in. DD11months is really tired of being in her seat (Plus over tired from ride) and DH decides to hold her for a little while until she calms down, well they both fall asleep. :goodvibes

5RoadTrip8-2-07LeeAnnaSleep.jpg

Well we finally pull into WDW, I could not get my usual pictures of Entrance, signs and such because of the rain. We get checked in and now it is about 10:30am. Not bad could have been alot better but not bad. We get cabin 2316. 2300 Loop thats not to bad either. Right between both pools, but closest to quiet pool, bus stop right outside of 2300 loop. 2 comfort stations in almost same distance away. OK. We get to cabin and off load and then we just die. We all fell asleep. When we got up then I took pics of cabin. Wish I had done that before trashing it but we were all tired.

Since it was getting so late for shopping, DH and I decided he would just run over to GOODINGS and buy some milk for the cereal in the morning and pick up some fast food while he is over there for a quick dinner and start fresh in the morning. BY THE WAY IT IS STILL RAINING...Hope it quits soon.

NEXT...DAY 2 Walmart run, Pool, Burgers NO FRIES in the BIG EASY.. :thumbsup2

Kathy, your trip report is off to a great start! The Fort Wilderness cabin looks nice. I've never thought about staying threre (when I think Fort Wilderness, I always think of motorhomes and camping) but would definitely look into it next time.

This is my second time staying in the cabins although the first time was only for a couple of nights. This time I got to enjoy it much more. It is actually very easy to go to MK from there and there is so many other things to do as well. They have the campfire and Mickey's Backyard BBQ and the Hoop Dee Doo is there as well. I will have pics later of the campfire. They also have many activities by the main pool, from flag Football to Bingo and Giant Jenga. It is great. If you don't like the pools at FW many people sneak over to WL to go in there pool or the Contemporary's as well. Even though you are not suppose to I saw many people doing it. We were just as content in the regular pools and never made it over to either one. There is a boat that goes to both resorts. For a cheaper end good buffet there is Trails End as well. It is no where as expensive as the other buffets on property. $11.99 for Breakfast to $17.99 for Dinner. Lunch is 13.99.

Stay tuned for more. I will have many pics a long the way.

Hey There!

Glad to see you all made it in one piece; although it sounds like you floated along in the water those last few miles! :umbrella:

LOL at the pic of your DS(20) in bed....that's exactly what Billy does as soon as we get into the room, no matter what time of day or night, the shoes come off and he jumps right in!! (That's probably why I never get shots of the room in pristine condition, either!) :rotfl:

Looking forward to more and hope the rain stopped soon!!

Kathy

Thats usually what Justin does too. He says, "Time to relax' and the shoes fly off and in bed he goes. This time though we brought his Playstation, he had to pack it in his Spiderman bookbag and hug it the whole way by the way. So when we arrived he had to unpack that first and hook it up before jumping into bed. :rotfl2:

Well we finally got up and got motivated. It took awhile but it finally happened. Everybody was just kind of lounging and playing some of their video games after their bowls of cereal.

10CabinChrisAnna8-2-07.jpg

10:00 am was drawing near and we really needed to get to the store and pick up the things that really wouldn't travel well i.e. eggs, milk, etc. So we told the kids to go up to the arcade and explore while me, dh and dd11months went to WALLY WORLD....:thumbsup2

DD11months ENJOYED THE TREK TO THE WORLD OF WALLY
11GoingtoWalMart8-3-07.jpg

We went to the one on 192 and got the things we needed. There was a MickeyD's inside and DD11months recognized that right off. It was getting close to lunch so we decided to have an early lunch while we were there. (SHHH dont tell the rest of the kids). Finished up shopping. Got DD11months a B-Day present and a floaty for the pool and swimmers because the stores at home had already quit stocking them.

On our way back I finally got some of the pictures of the signs. Still missed a couple that I wanted though (was talking to much and missed them, the main entrance was one).

We got back to the cabin. DD11months passed out asleep. In fact she was so asleep when I went to take her shirt off, it pulled her eye lids up and didn't even phase her. :lmao:

HAD TO TAKE A PICTURE OF THAT BY THE WAY
27Annaafterlongday8-3-07.jpg

We had bought some burgers and hotdogs at Walmart and decided that is what we would have for dinner because at this point I wasn't up for doing the Baked ZITI. We preped the grill and put the charcoal on and lighted it. Started cooking and realized we didn't buy anything to go with it. Oh well BURGERS NO FRIES :rotfl2: . We still had individual bags of chips left, that we bought before we left as snacks for the trip.

We watched movies on the DVD player in the living room. We all climbed on the murphy bed to watch and then called it a night.

STILL TO COME:

DAY 3 PART 1

CRISPY CRITTERS, MISHAP MALLS, CHEAP CAKE

Hey there, Kat!

Looks like everybody had a great first day! :goodvibes Love all the pix, too!

OMG...bathing suit pic!!... You are one brave woman!! :rotfl: Nobody better point a camera at me by the pool!!

Looking forward to more,

Kathy

Believe me I was fighting that one but husband kept insisting and said he would get a bad one if I didn't sit still and give him a good picture. That was good enough for me to give a pose. Last time he said that he stuck the camera through the bathroom door on Disney Cruise and took a picture of me on the toilet....

DAY 3 -- CRISPIE CRITTERS, TRADING ADVENTURE, ZITIFIED

We got up relatively early this morning and I decided to cook a nice breakfast. I had brought some Bisquick with us so I decided to make pancakes and eggs if anyone wanted any to go with the pancakes. So we had a nice breakfast and after we all relaxed for a little while and got situated for the day decided to go to the quiet pool. It is located between the 2500 and 2700 loops.

28QuietPool8-4-07.jpg

This is a semi rectangular pool not as large as the main pool. There is a comfort station right there with the pool so this is a nice pool to do laundry and let your kids swim and be able to watch them and do the laundry at the same time. There is no snack bar or anything like that, only 2 vending machines.

We hung out at the pool for a few hours, in the middle of the day, and it was a very hot day just like the whole week were were there. Mid to upper 90's days, 1 peaked at 100 and with heat index it was about 115. We put SPF60 on before leaving the cabin and the water was feeling so good we didn't think of it anymore from there. Oh by the way DSS18 decided to stay behind at the cabin and come to the pool later.

29AnnaLeeinPool8-4-07.jpg

DD11months started getting sleepy and ready for a nap after about an hour a so and she hung out under umbrella poolside with DH for a while.

31AnnaLeeinPool8-4-072.jpg

32ChrisAllyinPool8-4-07.jpg

33KathyAnnaChrisinPool8-4-07.jpg

The rest of us pretty much stayed in the pool the whole time. We were all playing a swimming from the shallow end to the deep end except DSS20, he stayed on the steps and just relaxed; dedn't move for almost the whole time; except to go from one side of the steps to the other.

30Justininpool8-4-07.jpg

After a little white DD11months finally gave up to sleep and was put in her stroller to take a snooze under the umbrella and around this time is when DSS18 showed up at the pool. He didn't feel like swimming so he stayed poolside to watch the baby and let DH get some pool time in. After not long we decided to go back to the cabin and let the baby get some good sleep.

DS10 wanted to go do some pin trading with me. So we decided to change and head out on the hunt, while everyone else relaxed in the cabin. I told them we would be back by about 6 so that I could make the pans of Ziti for dinner. 'OK' and we were on the way. We walked over to the main road (the orange line for the buses) and catch the bus up to the Settlement.

35SignforWagonCarriageRides.jpg

Once up there we traded a couple at the carts outside Pioneer Hall and then headed for the marina.

Finally at the CR we went into the lobby and locked around for a CM with a lanyard. Didn't spot any so we got on the elevators up to the 4th floor. Spoted the DVC Guide and he had some pins but nothing inviting. So we walked around and looked shop that is outside the shops. Then decided to head up to the monorail. And road that over to the Poly.

Poly lobby from second level
44PolyLobby.jpg

Headed down the stairs to first floor and saw the DVC Guide there, chatted with him for a bit about DVC and what I owned where I've stayed and staying this trip and what we are up to this trip. Traded a couple of pins with him and headed over to Capt Hooks as we were getting kind of thirsty since it was so hot outside and I decided to where a dark blue shirt (BWV Polo shirt BTW). DS10 Spotted a Rice Crispies Mickey Treat and wanted that as well; so we decided to sit for a break. Discussed where to next and he wanted to head towards the BW and YC/BC area. So we decided the best way to get there and decided to catch the boat over to MK and grab the bus from there.

Once to the bus stop area. I asked DS which one did he want to head to; BW, Swan/Dolphin, YC/BC? He said which ever bus gets there first. BOARDWALK was the winner.

Arrived home at BW (that is my home resort). And stopped by the DVC guides desk and had some nice talk with him as well and traded a couple of pins. Same type of talk. Where we were staying and how many times a year we come to Disney, starting to pitch the sale. Then told him I already owned. Told him we were celebrating Youngest DD B-Day this trip and he asked if we had gotten B-Day button yet and her 1st Trip Button. Told him no and he hooked us up with the buttons. And off we go again. Walked out on the porch off lobby that is up a level and has a great view of Crescent Lake and the Boardwalk. Walked down the stairs and around the Boardwalk to the YC.

DS10 wanted to go to the store in there. They usually always have alot of pins to trade. Everyone where lanyards and the have a pin boards as well. Made a couple of trades and it was getting late. It was 5:40, it was going to be close whether we would get back by 6:00. Alright how are we going to go back. YC Bus to MK, MK boat to FW. OK sound easiest, shortest, quickest route. RIGHT? WRONG.... We must have just missed the last bus b/c it took about 10-15 minutes for another. All kinds of other buses came and went before the one we wanted. Looked at DS "Oh Well so much for 6pm" Tried to call him on Walkie Talkies. Oh Well must be to far away.

DS - "Do you want to call him on the cell phone?"
ME- "No not yet. Lets wait until we get on the boat and see if we can reach him on the Walkie Talkie."

We get on the boat and still nothing.

DS - "Call Him?"
ME - "Wait until we drop at WL"

Got the Ziti done and had a great dinner. Salad and Ziti. DH got impatience about giving DD11months he biirthday gift for the trip and decided he wouldn't wait for cake a all and just give it to her now. Of course he had to come up with excuses first. But you forgot to bring any of her toys and she has nothing to play with.

So here she it with her present and having fun with it.

And here is DH and DD

This evening we discovered also that it must have been a pretty sunny and hot day, because me, DSS20 and DS10 were burnt. DSS20 caught the worst, I guess because he hardly moved around. But his shoulders had blisters OUCH. I was just plain CRISPY CRITTERED on my sholders and face and DS10 got it mainly on his face. I don't think mine helped wearing the dark colored shirt.

COMING UP:
MALL MISHAP, YUCK FOOD, TAX FREE, CHEAP CAKE

FLASH BACK

When me and DS10 were on the boat from Poly to MK and from MK to FW. I saw the Ferry Boat that brings people from T&T over to MK and remember my first trip to WDW. Some should remember from my Pre-Trippie. Stayed off-site in Sheraton World Resort and rented the Sprint Mobile...:scared1: We parked in MK Parking and took the Ferry Boat over and I remember getting the most wonderful picture of the Grand Floridian that evening coming back on the ferry to get in the Sprint Mobile.:scared1: The sun was just going down and it made the Grand Floridian almost look like a Silhoette and you could see the palm trees in one of the little island strips in the lake. The Grand Floridian was brand new then. I wish I could find that picture. I also remember my mother using the picture for a painting she did. (She is a very good artist, even though she won't try to pursue it. She just does it for her on enjoyment.) She duplicated it perfectly and it was so wonderful. That was one painting she actually sold. A doctor had seen it and asked her how much she wanted for it. I believe she sold it for about $200. I wish she hadn't now, I would love to have that painting. OH WELL

Also EPCOT was still in adolescents at that time and MGM was just being built. The Earful tower was already up but the rest was just a dirt whole pretty much. They must have put the Earful tower up first before doing anything else.... Typhoon Lagoon was about 50% complete and both were suppose to open that following year. I wish now that we had done River Country back then but we did not. :sad1:

What a beautiful family! Great photos as well-
We are staying at the cabins next week :cool1:what loop were you in? Was is difficult navigating around? Should we pack bug repellant?
Any tips or other thoughts for our group (4 kids under 8 and my sister and I):scared:
By the way- great report, keep the updates coming!
:surfweb:

We didn't have a lot of issues with bugs, I guess because it stayed so hot. Plus WDW sprays almost every morning, so I guess that helps to keep it down also. But you may want to just in case.

Bring beach towels for the pools. There are no towels at the pool areas. We were is 2300 loop 2316 to be exact. Most of the cabins are located on that side. That is the purple line for the buses to Settlement Depot. But if you don't mind a little walk, you can walk over to the main street through FW which is Orange Line for buses and also ride that. If you want to go to the main pool that is the bus to get on also, but if you dont mind walk it is not so bad to walk it. It is about a 20-30 min walk from Outpost (front or Check-in/out) to the Settlement (back or Pioneer Hall area). Main pool is about at the midway point. Quiet pool is on the purple line and there is a comfort station right there with the pool. So if you need to wash clothes, kids can play in the pool and you can do the clothes while the play and be able to watch them while you wait on clothes to get done. But there is not a snack bar just vending machines at quiet pool.

Murphy bed is not ultra comfortable for an adult, I would claim the big bed in the bedroom, but then you have to share with the bunkbeds. Also to make more room on the murphy bed, push the couch upto it and it makes more room. Couch is about same length. Me and DH and DD11months all shared that bed, so we pushed the couch up to it to give us the room. I could have used the portable crib but I just thought that to be more confortable for her. And half the time she fell asleep on it while we were watching TV anyway.

Try to do the campfire. I will have pics and report on that later on. Hopefully I will get that posted before you leave. But that was fun and then they show a movie after. This is all free, unless you want to purchase Marshmallow roasting Kit or Smores Kit, but you can also bring your own. Bring a blanket or quilt to that as the log benches aren't to comfy and small pillows can help to.

If you can swing it rent a golf cart, makes things way convenient. But this is almost $50 a day with tax. If you rent for 7 days though you get discount.

I could probably go on and on.........

I just have to chime in about bugs. We were just at the cabins the second week of Aug 10-13 and bugs weren't a problem....except we did the wagon ride which goes out to a swampy area and the mosquitoes began feasting on everyone on the wagon. So if you do that I would suggest putting on repellant first, not during as one family did and lots of us got a mouthful of spray. Also, one night when we watched fireworks and light parade from the beach the mosquitoes were quite active. But no problems at the cabins themselves. I did come home with a bit of poison ivy, but I am extremely allergic and I think I get it just by looking at it.

Sounds like a relaxing day, but OUCH!! Blistering sunburn!! :headache:

Hope you felt better soon! Looking forward to more....
