Back from 1st massage ever - crazy dizzy! WTH?

Becky, you can get a massage in a swimsuit if that's how you are comfortable, but I can assure you that in a reputable place, with a competent therapist, you will not be exposed at all.

When I am giving a massage, my client is completely covered with a sheet. I only roll back the sheet over the area I am working on, then recover when I am done.

YOUR comfort is the most important, and you should be empowered by your therapist to assure that your comfort level is met.

I do hope you decide to try massage!

Yes. I was never worried but my sis as a bigger lady was until I finally talked her into it. Then she was sad she had waited so long.

Myst

This is good to know, as my DH wants to get his first ever massage. He was thinking of waiting to get his first massage at Disney in December, but it sounds like it would be a much better idea for him to get his first massage here just in case it does cause some dizziness. If he had his first massage here, about how soon should he have another one so that he doesn't encounter the dizziness problem on the second massage in WDW? Do some people get dizzy after every massage?

I need psychiatric help. Anyone got a straight jacket handy?
That sounds really "amazing". I'm sure there are some "courses" you can take that will help enlighten you (allegedly).:) :)

I would be embarrassed of all the moaning sounds I might make. :rotfl: Remember that Friends episode of Phebe giving Monica a massage? :rotfl2:

I do go to a chiropractor btw since I have an 11" stainless steel rod attached to my spine. And I used to be the one to give massages (neck & shoulder rubs) in the office I worked at. Everyone wanted one to release headaches. lol

I have had several massages and have never felt exposed. I keep my undies on, but I know some don't. I even had a post-natal massage a few weeks after DS was born. That was great!

Great Question! :thumbsup2

If I do take another shot at this massage business, how long should I wait to go again?

BTW - Im about 13 hours post massage - feeling kinda 'woozy' and back achey....almost like post a really intense workout, or something... :confused3

I thought massage's were intensly relaxing,,,,,not intensly weird!!!

Did you drink a lot of water? That is supposed to help.

The next day...what about pretty much right after it? I had it from 6-7pm. I feel like POOP!

And those of you who are familiar with my self-diagnosed, self-admitted hypochondria, know that dizziness can put me into a panic attack...

SO, post massage I had a panic attack along with dizziness and nausea. SO much for getting relaxed. :confused3

You poor thing. Stop thinking about it. I know when I start to get myself in a panic the WORST thing I can do is dwell on it. Go do something fun to get your mind off your dizziness/nausea/hypocondria....you'd be surprised at how quickly your symptoms will go away!

(I say this with YEARS of experience under my belt! )

I make absolutely sure that I am well hydrated prior to a massage and I begin flushing my system before I leave the massage therapist. Most massage businesses have big water coolers or tea available so you can sit for a minute and drink some serious fluids. Your massage therapist-if they knew it was your first-should have told you to immediately begin drinking clear fluids. I also always have a big water bottle waiting for me in my car. This flushing also helps the aching after a massage. I get deep tissue massages and I take arnica montana right after too, this reduces swelling. I also have lots of massage experience.

There's three sure things I do to make sure that the massage goes well.

1. Make sure you drink a bottle of Spring water.

2. Do a few deep breaths and relax and mind.

3. (This is the most important one of all) This is optional and may not work for all, but it works for me. YMMV. Make sure you let the staff know you want the Happy Ending. You have to really look at the forms and sometimes they hide it behind some legal mumbo jumbo, but it's usually there. Sometimes you have to give the secret wink or nod. ;)

Good luck!:thumbsup2

I'm thinking she might be referring to a different type of massage. :scared1:

:lmao: I know! I went to a "legit" massage joint.... not a topless one! :rotfl:

Shortbun: how long before I should go again as not to have this happen again? A week? A month? Whats the scoop?

I am not sure it isnt going to happen again, i have had two massages and both i felt dizzy afterward for a little bit. Granted the second one was in cozumel after having teh yard of w/e special they were having..lol.

I think like others said, massages get things going and also toxins get realesed, I imagine if you did them more frequently you wouldnt experince it, however if you do like me and wait over a year, it will be just like before.

Also about the pain, the deep tissue massages you may hurt a bit becuase they are seriosuly working on your muscles. the others may be more like a hard rub and you wont feel the "pain" as much.

I always have a bottle of water in the car and I drink it after getting my massage. I've never felt icky but I have been sore from deep tissue massage.

DH and I got massages at the GF the day after our wedding. Between being tired from the day before and the great relaxing massages we got, we floated out of there and felt like that the rest of the night.

I know, I was just trying to make her laugh. Sometimes this board can get to serious and I really do enjoy making people laugh and it takes the edge off of things.

BTW, you should see my post on the thread about Starbucks coffee being served to grade school kids. I think it's one of my better ones.
