Well, we finally had our trip to Walt Disney World this week and came back in last night. I have to say that the trip came at just the right time as I found out Monday night that I lost my job...at Enron. We had a wonderful trip.
When we started on Monday, we went to Epcot and found the crowds to be almost non existant. It was truly wonderful. We went back to our room at Old Key West after lunch, took a long nap and then went to the Candlelight Processional which was very nice.
On Tuesday we went to the Magic Kingdom and found there were virtually no crowds there either. From 9:15am to 11:30am we rode Splash Mountain, the Peter Pan ride, Winnie the Pooh, It's a Small World, the Jungle Cruise, Pirates of the Carribean, the Haunted Mansion and walked through the Swiss Family Tree House. After a long lunch we rode Buzz Lightyear twice, Alien Encounter and saw the Hall of Presidents and went back to our room for a nap at about 1:30. We walked slowly to each ride, we are not fast walkers and really had no wait for any of the rides.
Wednesday we went back to Epcot for another wonderful day with virtually no waits, took a nap and went back late for the fireworks, very nice job this year.
Thursday we went to MGM, found it to look crowded, but did not have any waits for the Beauty and the Beast Show, The Indiana Jones stunt performance or the Muppets 3D movie, left there around 1:30 for our nap and then we went to Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party. Rode lots of rides again with no wait (especially during the first parade), saw the beautiful parade, I was disappointed by the fireworks, though, not quite as magical as their regular weekend night show.
Went to the Magic Kingdom again on Friday, found that the crowds were picking up a little, but not too bad, average waits at 15 minutes at around 1pm for Splash mountain, Thunder Mountain Railroad, and Buzz Lightyear. Saw the 100 yr anniversary parade, pretty and I liked the fact that they seemed to get the kids involved in the parade that were standing near the floats when they stopped.
The weather was wonderful!! We packed warm when we shouldn't have, it was 80 degrees during the day and 65 degrees at night. I went swimming at the pool one evening and the water was perfect.
I highly recommend avoiding the parks that used to have early entries on their old early entry days as we found no crowd problems by following that strategy. I would also recommend that families take a nap midday as it makes for a much more enjoyable vacation. We saw many screaming children late in the days at all the parks with parents screaming back at them because everyone was being pushed beyond their physical limits. I can't believe that makes for a happy memory and I can testify that my husband and I had a much better trip this time practicing mid day naps, especially on days we knew we'd be out late for fireworks or the Christmas party.
I hope I didn't ramble too much, let me know if you have any questions.
