We had thought to take our camper down to FW a few years back, but the a/c wouldn't be enough to keep the camper cool in the summer. Well we pick up a new camper (with better ac ) on Thursday, so hopefully next August we'll head to FW.
We did check out FW in February on our "off day". Hubby fell in love with the Fort.
So I'll be reading along to figure out which will be the best loop for our family's need.
Just thought I should reintroduce myself.

Getting a shady campsite in summer makes a YUGE amount of difference to your camper's AC unit. When you get to the Fort and go to your site, if it's not what you want (shaded for example), drive around and find a few empties that you might like then call or drive back to the check-in office and ask for one of them. They can move you if the person assigned to that new site didn't use the early check-in option and was already notified.

August 2018 is just a year away!

Hubby is hoping for loop 100 (that's the one closest to the water if I'm correct?). He likes the idea of fishing at the lake early morning or down time.

Well, I love 100 loop too but ....

It's not the most shaded loop in the campground. Actually, IMO, loop 200 (also a Preferred) has more shade relatively speaking. And 300 (Preferred) is a little bit away but the shadiest of the Preferred and has a short dirt road off the 300 road to an interior canal very nearby. You might want a 300 site that backs up against the canal.

Also, hubbie will probably be disappointed because if he is fishing in Bay Lake from shore, that is frowned upon. Why, you ask? Because you aren't paying the hundred$ of dollar$ for a guided fi$hing tour of Bay Lake. Di$ney act$ like you're $tealing money from their empty pocket$ and they'll go hungry if you don't pay through the no$e. Given the shallow water and marsh around the edges, the only place to drop a line from shore is around the docks and landscaped beach and areas near the boats. But that's been roped off because of the alligator issues. They don't want anyone standing near the water's edge. If I am wrong on this point, I hope 2goofycampers/Denise will correct me (or confirm with our poster BornToFish). If spotted he will be warned by a CastMember to stop fishing in the Lake. Same goes for fishing from a pontoon or other boat rental.

Of course he can fish in the canals on the interior of the Fort (Disney doesn't run guided fishing excursions there). Those fish like hot dogs cut up as bait if I recall.

All fishing at the Fort (and in Bay Lake when paying) is catch and release.

Yep, stick to the canals, use hot dogs and TE chicken skin for bait. Check the Dec 2016/Jan 2017 trip reports for pictures of some if the fish caught on these baits. Or search the Bay Lake fishing report thread.

Thanks for the heads up on lake fi$hing... And hubby only does catch and release (unless it's trout) so no biggie there.
