I have always loved DIS boards. Used it a lot every time we travelled to WDW. Even did a great meet and greet several years ago.

On a whim, mama and I have just booked a New Years stay....12/29 - 1/4. This will also cover our anniversary which is 1/2. I expect the park to be VERY crowded but what the hell. We've never been there over the holiday. To keep cost down, we're staying at All Star Movies instead of our favorite Wilderness Lodge, but we make the best of anywhere we stay.

A million questions but lets start with.....
  • What's the best thing to do on New Year's Eve??
  • Been 5 years since we've been there. What are the best restaurants? (We did get the Dining package. Have loved it in the past.) We did Be our Guest last time we were there.
  • Any ride restrictions over the Holiday or in winter?
  • Weather considerations for Disney in late December.

Looking forward to chatting with you all and exchanging ideas.

Cheers,
Zdad

It's our first time at WDW during the holidays too. We'll be at Epcot on NYE!

I can't help with much but the weather.
Our first trip was in December, and I grew up in the south so I'd say predict cooler weather but not the northern kind of cold. Jeans or long pants, maybe a jacket for layers. If it's sunny and you're walking a lot you'll be warm and could get away with shorts, but the mornings will be cold (at least for my thin southern blood). Plan for the 60s, but when we went it dipped below freezing one day. Of course it was in the 60s and sunny after lunch.

We were there last year at that time. Weather was in the high 60's during the day but was a little chilly at night. We opted to do Hollywood Studios on NYE, the crowd was very manageable. If you choose to go to Magic Kingdom or Epcot get there early. The fireworks at those parks are supposed to be amazing. They gave out horns and top hats at HS. DJ was there and had a dance party. The atmosphere was awesome. Thinking about going back this year. Another bonus was we got to see the Christmas decorations and parade. If you haven't seen the gingerbread house at the Grand Floridian definitely worth the visit.

We are doing EPOCT on NYE too. Dinner at Nine Dragons. We'll do the MK extravaganza on the 30th. Then our 36th anniversary on Jan 2.
