A bit of a strange question. My GF and I are going to be going to Disney in sept. and she has a handicapped kid (18). We would like to have time alone, but do not really trust her to her own devices in a hotel room when we go out to dinner. She has cerebal paulsy, and basicaly has the mentality of an 8 year old. She stays home by herself after school for a couple of hours a day, but that is a bit diiferent because it is familiar territory.

At any rate, would Disney allow us to have someone watch her so we could have a night alone? She doesn't need any real special attention, except she is hard to communicate with because she can't talk and her writing skills are not that great. But she is a saint around strangers and would do as she is told.

You might want to contact Fairy Godmothers Sitting Service at (407) 969-9847 and toll free 877-611-4314. They do in-room sitting. Their sitters tend to be at least in their 40's and they will come with age-appropriate toys or games. They also have people available with medical training.

I have never used them but have only heard good things about them.

Kids Nite Out (http://www.kidsniteout.com/) is the official babysitting service at WDW - I believe they will watch kids up to 18 yrs old.

We attend a conference held at a WDW hotel sometimes and they provide the childcare and I was very impressed with their professionalism. Many of the kids had medical issues (nurses were also in the room to tend to that issue) - but the sitters interacted really well with the children, checked them in, and were on top of all the issues.

Both them and Fairy Godmothers are the ones most talked about on these boards - I haven't seen too much discussion of childcare for kids with special needs and reports of how well that worked.
