We will be taking our daughter to Disney for Christmas for the first time. She will be turning 5 months old at the time and we have made reservations to get her hair cut at the Harmony Barbershop. I am not sure how well she will be sitting on her own by then. Do you think they will let me help her sit up while they cut her hair or do they have special chairs for children that young?

I don't think they get many 5 month olds. All they have are thick pads for shorter kids to sit on. I doubt she'll be stable enough to sit on her own by then anyway.

Does your daughter have a lot of hair? We didn't do my daughters first haircut until she was 2.5 years old. My son will be getting his first haircut in 2 weeks at 14 months old.

I think they will let you do whatever you want to make your baby happy. WDW is good at that! Maybe holding the baby on your lap would be best?

We got our daughters hair cut when she was 5 1/2 months old and it was great! I stayed next to her while the Barber cut her hair. They sat her on a thick cushion and I held her legs, she was stable from the waist up. To keep her occupied the Barber put Mickey stickers all over her. That kept he occupied. We did the same with our son when he was 11 months old.

One important thing to remember at the MK Barber Shop. When they removed the old antique cash register and put in a terminal to allow use of credit cards and hotel charges and the like they hooked into The Emporium's network. The register, unlike ones in table service restaurants, cannot handle tips as part of the transaction.

So if you are planning on using the Harmony Barber Shop please be aware that if you are using any sort of card you cannot add a tip on the card and should have cash available for tipping.

Unless they changed it, when my son had his first hair cut there about 5 1/2 years ago, they would not let him sit on my wife's lap.

Let me find a pictures, we had both boys' first hair cuts done down at Disney, both were about 4 months old. They sat pretty good.

I don't know how much it changed, but they got a certificate and a "first haircut" mickey ears, and of course the hair wrapped up in a cute little bag.

Here are 2 from Jack's first haircut, he was like 4 months and 1 week

Thanks!! Yes she was born with TONS of hair. None which has fallen out. For the most part she will just need a trim.

My son was 14 weeks when he got his first haircut at the Barber Shop this past November. He had really long hair when he was born, and they trimmed it up and even used the clippers on his neck. DH held him on his lap.

a little off topic but still in regards to haircuts.... I have a ressie for the barber shop this Friday for my 9 month old son. He has curly hair and I dont want that much cut off. just like the tips. I do want the back trimmed nicely though since he has one heck of a mullet going. Will they just trim it a LITTLE? or will he get the standard little boy haircut??

TIA!!

They will ask you what you want done and they will follow your lead. Disney does not hire brand-new licensed barbers for the Harmony Barber Shop. Most of them have worked for years in the Cast Barber Shops backstage before graduating to the Park.

Thank you! I just needed to hear it from someone else.

Other than a bangs trim by me here at home (disaster!!!) my daughter has never had her haircut. At the time of our trip she will be 2.5. Is that weird to get her first haircut done at tha age? Is she to old for that? My youngest will be 8 and a half months old and I wonder if her hair will be long enough for a tiny trim so she can atleast say "my first haircut was at Disney"! :)

My oldest didn't have her first haircut until she was almost 3 ~ she just didn't need one! And when she got it, it was mainly to tame it a little, it still was not very long. My 2 year old doesn't have much hair, either, poor girl! Hers is a totally different texture and will look okay growing out. Unless something major changes, I'm going to have her first haircut at Harmony when we go next summer (she will be over 3).

Thanks for the info about bringing cash for a tip, too!

This is the exact same situation we are in I am so sad to part with the baby curls but I don't want a mullet situation

They trimmed a tiny bit for my daughter. I meant to mention that in the picture I just posted last night earlier in the thread, but I got distracted and forgot LOL! Ahhh I'd lose my head if it weren't attached.

You can see in the picture, she still has her little piggy tails - I just had him do a teeny trim on the hair that remained on the back of her head, so I could have a "baby's first haircut" thing from Disney World. I didn't actually want her hair cut like CUT, but I wanted to be able to say she got her first haircut in the MK barber shop :) We were in and out in about 5-10 minutes time, it was that quick.
