Baby's first haircut @ Harmony barber shop

Can someone tell me what the first haircut there entails? Would like to consider it for my 15 month old. He doesn't actually have much hair, but I think it would be a fun memory even if it's more of a trim. ;)

They cut the hair (even if it's just a little trim) while entertaining the kid with toys, stickers, etc. if needed. Then, they put the First Haircut Mickey ears on the kid, and you can get a picture of the kid looking at his/her new haircut in the handheld mirror. It is really cute. (Plus, you can also get pics while they are getting the haircut.)

Afterwards, they give you a certificate and a bag with the hair and "pixie dust." I don't remember the exact cost, but I think with tip, it was somewhere around $20 (and that includes the mouse ears.) Totally worth it!

We did this with ODD and are hoping to do it with YDD - I just have to plan the trip and hope her wild hair stays moderatEly controller until then.

ODD was a bit uneasy at first, but as others have said - lots of toys and stickers and her lady was sooo sweet and patient! We got some great pictures and the barber even gave me pixie dust along with DD. The hats are cute and its a fun way to commemorate a "first"

Can anyone tell me about the quality of the haircut? Our daughter will be 16 months when we are there and we were hoping to have hers done. She has quite a bit of hair and I am trying to decide if we should do bangs or not, etc. I posted in a FB forum with a bunch of my friends and one mom stressed that this is a "BARBER SHOP" and not to hope for much beyond a trim. This didn't sound too hopeful to me. I'm not looking for some fancy schmancy hairdo but I also don't want a butchered baby cut! ;) Thanks in advance!

Our middle daughter had her first and second haircuts there (both by Penny...she was wonderful). When I told her we were on our way to get her hair cut (3rd time), she replied, "Yes! We're going to Disney World?!" It took a little convincing to get her to understand that most people don't get all of their haircuts at Disney.

I think we paid $15 (back in 2009) and got a certificate and a set of toddler sized "First Haircut" mouse ears. There were lots of Mickey stickers handed out, too. It was a great experience.

I have an appointment to have my 1 year old's first cut here in May. But, I also have a 3 year old who will not be getting her haircut, and I want to do something special for her while she waits. Can anyone tell me about pixie dust? What is the cost...and what is it exactly? Is it different from confetti?

1. Pixie Dust: Super fine glitter that gets into every single crevice and is impossible to get out.
2. Don't cost a dime. Disney BBB and barbers and any other cm are happy to glitter anything that stands still for two seconds. BBB is the best place to get blasted by it. Just roll on up, see if one of the cms has a little wand, ask for some dust and BLAM! You will be picking out glitter from you kids clothes a year from now!

3. If you are worried about your 3yr old getting jealous, don't freak. Have you or someone else take kiddo out to get Sorcerers Apprentice cards and play the game with them. That's enough distraction and lots of fun. The CMs that work there are nice and efficient.

Great info. My son will be just shy of 2 years on our next trip. I hope to get a reservation now that I know you can do this 180 days out

When I was with my daughter getting her first haircut, the ladies in the Barber shop mentioned that they also style the hair of the performers in the parade, so I would guess that they are able to do more than just a basic trim. My daughter just got a regular trim, so I can't provide much feedback from our experience.

There's no shampoo bowls (that may change after the renovation, but I doubt it), so for those wondering about the experience, make sure the hair is clean and tangle-free. The whole time in the chair was less than five minutes for my daughter - she was 18 months and we just wanted it evened out in the back. They didn't use the pixie dust on her - I don't know if they forgot or what, but I didn't mind (I hate glitter) but her certificate and ears are displayed in her room now. They put a booster on the chair, set her down, combed the hair and snipped a few times, and we were done. She doesn't like strangers around her, but she never had a chance to get upset.

We will be going with my daughter who will have just turned 1. Right now she is 8 months and does not really have much (if any) hair at all. My mom thinks its a waste of money but I keep telling her its for the memory!!!

We have a reservation for my son to get his first hair cut on his first birthday. I called as soon as I was allowed and couldn't get an apt until 10:30am, so I think they may not make reservations first thing in the morning to allow for walk-ins. Just my speculation.
