DH and I are expecting our first DS, due in February. We didn't go to WDW this year, so of course we have to go next year. We usually go in September, b/c that is our anniversary, and lately they have been giving away free dining. We try to time it so we can also hit F&W, b/c DH is a chef and loves F&W.

But I have always wanted to see WDW at x-mas. So my question, should we have baby's first trip the same time as usual (last week of Sept/1st week of Oct) or x-mas (first week of December)?

Thanks!

I would go when it is younger because it will be very happy sitting in a stroller or being held and looking at the lights sounds etc. easy to feed, easier to eat while it sleeps etc. The older child will want to be moving around on its own won't be happy to sit in a stroller as long. May be walking. will be eating finger foods, will have to be entertained more while you try to eat. May react more to loud noises (fireworks, etc) Will be fussier on the plane. And it won't be old enough to remember anyway so that isn't a reason.

I voted for early December because that's when we're taking our little one to Disney World for the first time. She was born in February also. We took her to Disneyland in May and she's going again to Disneyland next week. Honestly, if you go with the right attitude (i.e. it's a different type of trip with a baby, work around her schedule, that sort of thing) I think anytime is great to go! Have fun and Congratulations!

I picked December. It is better weather & the Xmas decorations are a huge plus. :thumbsup2

I'd probably vote for December. We took our 7 month old last January, and he did great. It was so easy! He liked the characters, and looking around at everything. We were shocked at how well the whole trip went. We just took him again in August at 14 months. Again, he did awesome, loved the characters, and enjoyed the rides. It was almost as easy as the first trip, only slightly more complicated because he wanted to get up and move around on his own more. But overall, he did great again. The major difference between the two trips was the weather. January was beautiful, perfect for a young baby, but August was BRUTAL. I would never take a young infant in the heat of the summer, and might even reconsider taking a toddler again. We've been in September numerous times, and it is uaually still HOT. I think you'll all enjoy it more in December, and the Christmas decorations are AWESOME!! Good luck with everything!

Sorry to post hijack but to the PP, your dane is adorable!! Too cute. We have a fawn and I just love those danes!

Our DD was born March 1, 2004 and we went in October 2004 when she was 7 months old. DH and I enjoyed the F&W festival so much - just strolling around World Showcase sampling everything and watching some of the entertainment while DD slept peacefully in her stroller. It was wonderful and F&W made up for the fact that we were reluctant to go to some of the nicer Disney restaurants we used to frequent pre-baby.

We were in the same boat as you were. Our DS was born in Feb (19 mos ago) and DH and I used to go every fall, so we went in early Nov. while DS was 8.5 mos old. It was just great. DS just blossomed there. He started waving, started crawling, did alot of other firsts while we were there. It was very magical. I'm sure early Dec. would be nice, but may not be warm enough to swim in the pool (it could be iffy). Not that it's a huge deal, but DS liked to splash around a bit.

It's probably a toss-up, but I voted for F&W since we enjoy that time of year at WDW and that's when we took our DS who was also born in Feb.

Good luck and congrats!!!

Couldn't have said it better myself!!!! Trips from 2-7 months were great, last two trips at 8 and 11 months, not so great. I just get tired of fighting him because he wants to get down and crawl. Maybe I am a freak, but I don't let the baby crawl around in public places so it was hard.

September will be so much better, you won't have to worry about finding food that he can also eat like you would in December. You won't have to find a place for them to crawl around because they need to get out energy but can't walk yet. My arm was in serious pain from holding him for three days straight. The baby in September will still be plenty small enough for a carrier/baby bjorn. My 11 month old kills my back in there.

I know you want to see it at Christmas, but I definitely had more fun during the trips where he was happy to just get carted around by me, or hang in the stroller rather than hacing to keep trying to distract him so he would stop trying to get out of my arms/the stroller/etc.

Either way, I had fun, but my pick would ABSOLUTELY be earlier!!!

By the way, Congratulations!!!

Congrats on the little one!

I picked December because X-mas in WDW is truly something special. We've been there in October and there's no comparing to X-mas time. The decorations and MVMCP make the trip extra special. If you've been there at other times and have the opportunity to go in December do it! Either way enjoy!

I voted December. My son was born Mar 1 last year and we went the last week of September/first week of October so it's pretty much the same situation as the OP. I found the weather to be too hot for a 6 month old baby at that time of the year. He was generally happy most of the time, but too definitely hot and sweaty while outside then freezing from the AC inside.

Neither time is bad, but if you're going for you, choose which one you like the best. If you're making the comfort of the baby a priority I would choose December.

Thanks for all your responses. I was still having trouble deciding, so I decided to ask DH, since he gets to come on the trip, too, and all. He said, "Why not both?" :thumbsup2

I voted December because the weather will be cooler for you and the baby and because I'm sure the baby will LOVE looking at the decorations! Either time will probably be great, so i made weather my deciding factor! Have fun whatever you decide!

BTW, I have a February baby and his first trip was at 15 months -- he had a ball!

I would agree with most of the above posts and go in December. We have never been at Christmas time and would love to go! We have been in September amd October and really enjoy the F&W festival, BUT in can be very hot still in September. We went last month and it was 90+ every day. Very hot for us so I would imagine a baby would not be very comfortable.
We have found OCtober to be more in the high 70's when we have gone, but it was the end of October.

We are taking our daughter next October, at the end of the month. She will be 18 1/2 months! We can't wait. :Pinkbounc
:cool1: Congratulations and Enjoy!!!
