baby wearing at WDW

we are going in Sept DD will be 11 months old. I am considering getting something to carry her in. I have been looking on the net all day and am overwhelmed. What one would you all suggest?

I know my wife wore our infant in Italy in April and she thought it was pretty hot... I would imagine early September and Florida heat would be... uncomfortable. Not sure about the backpack carriers, would probably be "less hot" but still warm.

The other thing to think about is sun exposure. With a stroller you can usually put on a good sunshade and keep the child out of the sun, so if they fall asleep napping or what not you can still stay mobile in the park. If you are carrying/slinging the child I would be worried about sun exposure and how exactly you would "cover them up" without "burning them up" :p

We are headed to WDW at the same time as you! We should meet up ;)

Yes Rsmithx we should meet up seeing how we have dinner plans :rotfl:

Did you not notice the name silly its me Sara yes that one. the one going with you to WDW.

I love my Beco its a lot like a ergo. DS loves the back carry and DH can carry him as well. the Beco 4th Gen is what we have you will be pressed to find one of those sadly. They now have the beco Butterfly also nice.

You can looking on babywearing .com for preloved carriers or ask questions

I've done a ton of BWing, especially in WDW...I loved my Peanut shell pouches when my girls were small, and i loved my babyhawk Mei Tei's..and Toddlerhawks..lol, i've taken a Beco and a Kanga X and can't forget about my solarveil ring sling and my solarweave Mei Tei!!!!!

thank you both

I had my first BW experience in WDW last weekend! It was our dd's first trip (7 weeks old). I used my solarveil Octi Mei Tai and we did great! It wasn't too hot and was very comfortable. If you were at Epcot or DHS last Saturday, you may have spotted me. I did see 4 other BW while there too.

I used a solarveil ring sling on our last summer trip. It worked great in lines and with the breathability and extra sun protection it was wonderful. The tail was long enough to use as a protective sheet over ds while he slept in the stroller. Loved it!

I"m TOTALLY planning on taking my Beco(s) Probably not the butterfly though - it has too much fabric and I think it'll be hot for both of us.

I love that I can nurse while wearing on the front - so my son should stay nice and hydrated :thumbsup2

Still trying to decide what to do about the stroller though.

We just got back a few days ago from our trip with our almost 5 year old and our 6 month old... Our 6 month old was in the Ergo or a ring sling almost the entire week we were there... I even have a water sling (made of solarveil material that blocks UV rays) that I used in the pools and at the water park.

It was quite hot a few of the days, but we switched things up a lot... when it got too toasty, we took him out and let him ride in the stroller for a bit...or else we'd just hold him in arms.... He was such a pleasant little dude the entire trip! We met his needs by keeping him near us where he likes to be....and he met our needs by not fussing the entire trip! :thumbsup2

lol come to think of it...most of our family photos from the trip show little dude in the Ergo carrier...(most of the time fast asleep! lol)

Hi Lauren! We saw your hubby wearing the baby in the Ergo at Animal Kingdom! They both looked very comfy!

Were you at Epcot last Saturday (10th)?

Well hello again, Teresa! lol Yep...that thing is great... I used to wear my older ds in it for a 4 mile walk to and from a local park.... up until he was 3 years old! (on my back, of course! lol)

I'm so jealous my dh was the one that got to meet you and your sister! (and I'm slightly jealous of the tall blonde woman my dh said you thought was me :rotfl: sitting nearby)

Last year, I wore my son who was 12 months old at the time in my ergo in a hip carry. This year, I'm wondering if I should bring him again in the Ergo or just go ahead and purchase a stroller.

We have a front carrier(like a baby bjorn) and we used it when our son was 8 months and it worked great. We haven't really used it in a long while but we are coming down next month and he will be 14 months now. I know he fits within the weight limit but I don't know how he will be since he likes to be crawling and such and if he will tolerate being strapped in. I don't really want to spend the money on a hipster type but I also don't want our arms breaking. I know it will also be hot regardless. And then there is the whole crankiness factor if he doesn't want to be in it(which we wouldn't make him if he doesn't want it). I guess I am just looking for thoughts or suggestions. I have never been to Disney with a baby that is crawling and not walking yet and I am always stressing so that we can make the trip as enjoyable and easy as possible. We are just keeping our fingers crossed so that he starts walking in the next few weeks.

I personally wouldn't recommend a Bjorn type carrier for a baby that old..it would be SOO uncomfortable for both you and the baby. I would recommend a Mei Tei (ex. Babyhawk) or an Ergo, Beco, Kanga X( you can wear the baby comfortably on your back!), or even a ring sling to wear the baby on your hip.

Okay please don't think I'm crazy but....

My ds will be almost 3 when we go and is about 35 pounds. We plan on taking a stroller with us. But we're going during a very busy time ( 4th of July) and I know lines will be long and we can't take the stroller in most lines.

He's a child that likes to be held alot and Disney will be no exception.. esp. when he's tired.

Have you seen anyone wearing their almost 3 year old? And if so. what kind of carrier would you recommend for a child that big?

We have a trip planned for Christmas week. My DSIL will be bringing a newborn (due November 11). They are planning on bring some sort of carrier or sling. Has anyone used one for a baby this young at WDW?

Are there any threads about bringing newborns to Disney?

Jenny-momof3---my youngest is 2 1/2 , i still wear her a lot, especially if she is tired and i have to do some grocery shopping. I have a carrier called a Kanga X, there is also an XT (taller)http://hyenacart.com/blookangaroo/index.php?c=21 , it looks as if they are sold out until June, i they do go fast..but you may be able to find a gently used one on the FSOT board on thebabywearer... . It is so comfortable....but i would also suggest looking here.. http://www.thebabywearer.com/ there are a lot of SSC's (buckle carriers) that are tall enough for a bigger/older child. Some of the new carriers make your child feel weightless on your back.

Becca-becca there are a bunch of threads about bringing a newborn to WDW..i have personally brought all 3 of my girls at a very young age.
A good sling is great for WDW with a newborn!! I LOVED my Microfleece Peanut shell pouch when my youngest was first born, so warm(but not too warm) and soft and comfy... http://www.goo-ga.com// or a ring sling is good because it is adjustable.. my favorite is http://www.sleepingbaby.net/ very comfy and Jan is great to work with. KAngaroo Korner adjustable pouches are good too.. http://www.kangarookorner.com/c-8-adjustable-pouches.aspx Also tell her to check out the link above for thebabywearer...
