My granddaughter, Ireland, is 11 months old. She has four front teeth, two on top and two on bottom. Normal for her age. Yesterday, Kimmi was fishing something out of Ireland's mouth that she shouldn't have had, and she felt a molar, on the left, bottom. I was sure she was wrong, but, sure enough, she has a molar. Shouldn't she get four more front teeth before molars? Is this something Kimmi should call her pediatrician about? Is this a sign of future tooth issues? Kimmi had a few adult teeth that didn't come it right, and she had many oral surgeries, braces, chains attached to embedded teeth, etc. and now has an implant because one tooth never did come in. I am so worried this is a sign of things to come. Or, is it just a fluke and the other teeth will come in whenver? Am I just worrying over nothing?

Any friendly advice would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know the answer to your question, but I just wanted to say that Ireland is TOO CUTE. How do you keep from just hugging her all the time? :)

It's pretty hard not to!!! She is very cute. Thanks.

I know when my sons teeth came in, he got the front ones, and then he skipped some teeth and started getting ones farther back, then the ones that were missed filled in. Same with my neice. I would not be too worried, but just for peace of mind, a trip to the dentist probably would be a good idea.

She is a cutie!

Our ped told us that, while it wasn't the "norm" for molars to come in early on, it wasn't totally unusual either. I wouldn't call the pediatrician about it but, if your daughter is at all concerned, maybe mention it at her 12-month check up.

Thanks for the website, it helped. I didn't realize they could have molars before they were one. I thought molars came in at two years. Kimmi just had such terrible trouble with her teeth, it made me worried.

The good thing, she wasn't fussy or anything. One day is was just there!

Cool website mickeyboat. My DS seem to be a little behind in that because we finally got the 1st year molars and hes 21 mts. Like everthing with child development, Baby teeth are a funny thing. Our dentist's son didn't get ANY teeth till he was 14 months old, and he thought that was kind weird but fine.

My 14 month old (Nick) did the same thing. He has 6 front teeth plus 2 molars. It surprised me, too, when I realized that what I was seeing toward the back of his mouth wasn't spit but teeth! So far, he hasn't been fussy or had any problems cutting any of his teeth. Jacob cut his first 6 teeth without any discomfort or problems by 10 months, and then went 9 months without any new teeth. I brought Nick home from the hospital when Jacob was 19 months old, and he started working on 10 teeth the next day. That made for an interesting few days, but at least we got most of the teeth out of the way in a weeks' time.

Madison got her teeth in what I thought was a strange pattern too. She was 10 months old when she got her 1st 2 teeth, the 2 bottom front ones. Then no more teeth till 16 months, when she got 5 teeth in a week. The 3rd tooth was one of the top front, but then 4th was a molar, 5th was the other top front, 6th was another molar, then 7th was another molar. She she had 4 front teeth and 3 molars. Then the 4th molar came in about a week or so after that. After that she got the other 2 bottom front teeth and about 2 weeks ago got another top front tooth for a total of 3 on top in the front, 4 in the bottom front and 4 molars. I wish she'd get the 4th tooth on the top soon cause it looks kinda funny to just see 3 up there! She's way behind the mouth on that website!

My 7 month old is right now getting his teeth out of order too. His first 2 are the bottom front teeth and #3 is coming in right next to them, on the bottom. It happens. :goodvibes
