Baby sitters, anyone use them?

Hi there

We read that the Beach Club have Baby Sitting (at extra cost) and are not sure whether it might be an option for us one evening, our DD is 3 and although will stay up quite late, we thought it would be quite nice one evening to go out for a meal on our own, but I am not sure how 'comfortable' I will feel with this and leaving her with a stranger.

A friend said they used them several years ago and were excellent, turning up with a bag full of toys and were fully qualified.

Has anyone any experience, or heard anything about sitters recently?

Thanks

Kate

Try doing a search. There are tons of people here who have used them. I do think that your child has to be 4 and potty trained but I could be wrong (we've never used them). Some have also used in room babysitting through some companies when the kids were too young for the clubs.

Some of the resorts have clubs, the Beach Club is one, where the children must be 4 or over and potty trained. Then there are in-room sitters. We used Kids Night Out for DD and DS. She was 2-1/2, he was 6 months.

We stayed at SSR and only went to DTD because I am a maniac and was too afraid to go farther, but she did a great job. She was an older grandma-type, bag of stuff to do with DD and was great with DS (he was a cranky baby and he was asleep when we came back, I almost fell over). DD was upset when she left. :)

They do have a website. http://www.kidsniteout.com/

There is also another in-room service, but I cannot recall the name.

I used the in room service years ago for my two boys. Excelent well qualified sitter and no problems at all. My kids were talking age so I was able to ask how it went and they said they had a good time.

Piggy-backing on this thread. The in-room sitters -- what in the world do they do with the kids? With a four hour minimum, that's a long time to be locked in a room....

We used Kids Nite out as well and were very very happy with them. We were staying at the CR and went to California Grill so we never left the resort. They came with a bunch of toys and games... watched some tv and they took a walk to the main lobby to have some dinner and watch the monorail go by.

There is no way I would leave either of my kids with a complete stranger. I wouldn't do it when i'm at home, why would i do it on vacation?

That's too bad...your kids are missing out on some fun times and the chance to get to know other people.

OP, we use Fairy Godmothers a lot. They are great, and DS loves them. We pick them even over the clubs, because DS likes to turn in at a decent hour. Almost all the reports about Kids Nite Out and Fairy Godmothers have been great. There have been a couple of "I just didn't like the sitter" but those reports have been few and far between in the years I've been reading reports on these boards.

Have fun on your trip.

I understand where you are coming from, but at home I don't have access to a professionally qualified Nanny/sitter service, that does sitting on a daily basis at the same venue.

I do however use Sarah, a 21 year old student, who is a family friend, but if I analysed this, she has little experience of young children and no formal first aid qualifications. Although very sensible, I don't know how she would react in an emergency, so perhaps I shouldn't use her either? However, my dd loves her staying, as she plays great games and goes to bed without a fuss and I hear all about it in the morning!

Sadly, neither dh parents, or my parents are around to sit anymore and in the absence of extended family in the area, its Sarah, or we never go out on our own! Although we have only done so four times in three years!!

Thanks for the advice, I have had a look at the sites and will decide how it works for us when we get there.
