Hi I am planning a baby shower and would welcome any ideas. Does anyone know how to make the cakes from receiving blankets

Thanks :bounce:

I think for the baby blanket "cake" you just roll the blankets to look like the layers of the cake, and then I have seen them stuffed with baby products.

A few fun games I have seen at baby showers:

1. The host took chocolate candy bars and melted each of them in a different diaper. They then passed them around the room, and you had to write down what kind of chocolate bar you thought it was. It was quite hilarious to see people sticking their nose in a "poopy" diaper to smell the flavor of chocolate. :rotfl:

2. I think this one is used a lot: Remove the labels from 8-10 jars of baby food. Number the top of each of them. Then guests write down what flavor of baby food they think it is.

3. Have each guest cut a piece of yarn that they think is large enough to exactly fit around the pregnant person's belly. After each person has cut their yarn, one person wraps each piece around the woman's belly, cutting any extra. The person with the smallest piece of extra yarn wins. (Those pieces that are too small are automatically out.)

Have fun planning.

Diaper Cake "Ingredients"

40 small diapers
2 receiving blankets or baby towels
1 burp rag
1 baby bottle or cardboard paper towel roll
scotch tape or rubber bands
3 diaper pins 1 cardboard cake plate
various baby items to decorate (mini soap and shampoo bottles, baby hair brushes, teething rings, ect)
1 roll colored curling ribbon
1 cake topper (ie: small stuffed animal or beanie toy)

Start by rolling the diapers lengthwise around the baby bottle, and continue to roll the diapers around themselves until you have used 20 diapers for the first layer of the diaper cake. Use scotch tape to secure the diapers together, or use rubber bands if you prefer.
Do the same to make the second layer of the diaper cake, only this time make it a bit smaller by only using 10-15 diapers. The third, top, layer should be only about 5 diapers round.
Fold a receiving blanket to match the width of the bottom diaper cake layer and wrap around. Secure the back with a diaper pin. Do the same for the second layer. For the third, smallest layer, use a burp cloth to wrap around the cake layer and secure with a diaper pin.
Tie curling ribbon in whatever colors you choose around each of the 3 layers of the diaper cake, tie leaving enough extra ribbon at the ends to curl. Take the baby items and tuck them in the ribbon to decorate.
Top your cake off with a small stuffed animal or beanie toy, or something of similar proportion that matches your cake.

just threw one recently for one of my girlfriends...

anyways, i did a ducky theme...

for favors, i made candy ducks (the mold kind, melt candy, pour into mold, etc...)
and for centerpieces for the tables, i got a fish bowl, filled it up with some blue pebbles/rocks, tint the water with blue food coloring, added a rubber ducky in there, swimming. tied the bowl with some yellow & blue gingham ribbons. came out really cute!

good luck! and have fun! :flower:

I went to one with a duck theme and they used a little baby "wash tub" and put the punch in and floated little duckies in the punch.
