Please share with me your ideas for food for a baby shower.

Thanks!

At mine we had sandwich fixins (sliced meat, cheeses, bread and condiment spreads like mustard, etc), nuts, finger veggies (like baby carrots and broccoli spears),chips, dips and flavored carbonated beverages (some with caffiene, some without).

TOV

At the last shower I helped with we had veggie pizza, chocolate-chip cheeseball with graham crackers, chicken cheeseball, regular chips and dip, tortilla chips with taco dip, chicken salad sandwiches and I think a veggie tray. I also like spinach dip.

Depends on time fo day the shower is - if its mornign you can have brunch food, or serve lunch with finger sandwiches & the like- if it's the 2-4 time frame than fruit tray, veggie tray (with dip), nuts, punch, cake & maybe a chip& dip....

Also depends on what's customary in your area - what was served @ the last shower you went to ? Baby or wedding they are usually the same (assuming it's the same time of day)

At my SIL's shower we had a baked potato & salad bar with cake.

My cousin's shower had chicken salad on croissants, chips, veggies with dip, fruit with dip and cake.

My friends served a punch (sorry--don't have the recipe)--but for the ice--they froze berries in ice cubes (using an ice cube tray).

Tea sandwiches are yummy as well.

I like my showers "tea party" style.

Strawberry Lime Punch

INGREDIENTS:
16 ounces frozen strawberries
1/2 gallon cherry-limeaide sherbert
3 liters of Sprite or Ginger Ale
PREPARATION:

Place the frozen strawberries in the bottom of your punch bowl with the sherbert. Slowly pour the Spirte or Ginger ale on top of the mixture. You're ready to serve - it's that easy

BLT Bites
16 cherry tomatoes
1 pound bacon; cooked -- crumbled
1/2 cup mayonnaise or Miracle Whip
1/3 cup chopped green onions
3 tablespoons grated parmesan cheese
2 tablespoons snipped parsley

Cut a thin slice off of each tomato top. Scoop out and discard pulp. Invert the tomatoes on a paper towel to drain. In a small bowl, combine all remaining ingredients; mix well. Spoon into tomatoes. Refrigerate for several hours.

Bacon-Asparagus Bundles
1 lb bacon
1 Jar spicy brown mustard
1 pound fresh asparagus

Slice strips of bacon in half crosswise. Spread one side of bacon with a thin layer of mustard. Rinse aparagus and, and place one piece of asparagus at one end of bacon. (If aspargus is too large, you can trim off some from the blunt end, *not* the spear) Roll and secure with a wooden toothpick. Place rolled bacon strips on a broiler pan, making sure they do not touch each other. Bake in a 375 degree oven for 30-45 minutes, turning once, until bacon is cooked. (This may be done early in the day.) Drain on paper towels and refrigerate until serving time. Reheat on baking sheet at 350 degrees for 10 minutes or until hot or you can microwave them to reheat.

Baby Poop Dip
6 oz cream cheese
15 oz chili, no beans
4 oz can green chiles
2 oz cheddar cheese -- shredded

Mix the first three ingredients and microwave until hot. Sprinkle some Cheddar Cheese on top and microwave again until cheese is melted. Works just as well in the oven. Serve with tortilla chips.

Oh you guys are great! Yum! Such good ideas. Thank you so much. :)

Anyone else?

This sounds very nice. Woman do not eat alot...compaired to having a party with men.

We did a shower with Quiche', chicken salad, croissants, 2 tossed salads, Ceaser & Spinach. Choclate coverd strawberrys & cake.

Wow, this surprises me that showers are tea parties!

At showers I have attended (both wedding and baby), we have stuff like: rigatoni, chicken, a potato of somesort, vegetable, salad, assorted dips and desserts!

(This sounds like every shower is the same but this is what kind of stuff is usually served...this is what we had for my cousin's baby shower)

A little dish that is always a hit with women is spinach pinwheels.

Use crescent rolls.
Open up one tube and unroll the rolls of dough. (there will be two rolls)
Place side by side forming a rectangle-ish shape and seal all seams.
Spread Aloutte or some other flavored cheese spread (garlic and herb flavor is fab) over the dough generously.
Then place baby spinach all over the cheese.
Roll up the rectangle and cut a slice every inch or so.
Place the pinwheels on a pan and bake at 350 ish for 10 minutesish.

A huge hit with women...so good!

I was thinking the same thing...I don't even have a clue what a "tea sandwich" is LOL....our showers are usually surprises and out at a restaurant/party room/catering hall....usually some types of pasta, meat, chicken, fish and veggies....then desserts.

We threw SIL's last June, so we knew it would be hot outside. We did ham salad and chicken salad sandwiches. Pasta salad with lots of veggies, fruit salad, chips and dip, iced tea, and punch (just lime sherbert with ginger ale).

Don't forget to check with the mom to be to see if she's on any dietary restrictions, or if certain foods are bothering her that she can normally eat.

I often do Chinese chicken salad a lot, with maybe some rolls, & cut up fruit.

For my own showers, friends have done finger foods, tea sandwiches.

I like having a spiral cut ham and rolls. Condiments, pickles, olives. Veggie and dip tray. Fruit tray. Hamburger BBQ/sloppy joe. macaroni salad. cake

It's usually finger foods in our area. We threw a shower a few weeks ago for my best friend on a Saturday afternoon. We had: chicken salad sandwiches, punch, meatballs, crackers and dip, nuts, cheeses, cookies, quiche, veggies and dip, chips, etc.

Yum!

Thanks to all of you for your input and such good sounding suggestions! :)

At the last shower I attended the hostess had chocolate dipped pretzel rods. Some were white with pink and blue sprinkles while others were milk chocolate with pink and blue chocolate drizzles. Very cute and an easy finger food.
The shower was a double baby shower for 2 cousins and the one was trying to avoid all salt in her diet so she mostly ate the fruit salad and fresh veggies.

I've given 2 baby showers since October.
For the first one we had Baked chicken croissants (it's like chicken salad except you use cream cheese and milk instead of mayo) spinach balls, fruit pizza, assorted dips, homemade cookies and cake and punch.

For the last one which was just this past Friday evening, we had appetizers.
chicken terryaki skewers
spinach feta squares
scallops wrapped in bacon
shrimp dip
cheese balls and crackers
chardonnay
Cake

The second one was so much easier than the first one.

I am just blown away at how many people have these showers at their homes...I am 42 yeares old and have never been to a shower baby or bridal that was held in someones home....and none of them was anything less than a full course meal....it really has to be a regional thing!
