Has anyone had either a Bebe pod or a Bumbo sitter? DD hates to be on her tummy, and I'm afraid she's going to get a flat head. She is about 15 pounds, and is three months old. Any opinions?

Well, I'm a retired chiropractor so I know a little about forces on the spine, and natural development and whatnot, and I have a serious issue with the products that allow children, who can't sit up on their own, to sit in seats like that. It's just too early in their development.

DS didn't much like being on his tummy either, and luckily, "tummy time" only needs to be for a short amount of time, and laying on mama or papa's belly, interacting and having fun, counts! :)

Since you're concerned about a flat head, does that mean she spends a lot of time just lying on the floor? Have you considered a sling to carry her around while you go about your daily business, or if not a "sling", a different sort of carrier (mei tai, podegi, etc)? DS absolutely thrived being up on my level, seeing what I saw, knowing what I was doing instead of just hanging out on the floor watching my ankles pass by. Of course, he enjoyed that every once in awhile, but not daily.

Also, hatred of tummy-time caused DS to turn himself over fairly quickly (we're not going to talk about how he could pull to stand at 6 months, b/c frankly that was scary and I wish he'd been slower about that).

But really, I'd figure out other ways baby could be, rather than putting her in an upright and seated position before she's really capable of doing that on her own.

And wearing babies is fun! :)

The Bumbo seat was recommended to several moms by their kids physical therapist on the bbc preemie board. They didn't become popular until after my ds was past the infant stage so I never had a chance to try one though. At this stage I wouldn't worry too much that your dc doesn't like tummy time - that is perfectly normal. Just do it a few times a day for a few minutes and build up each time and your baby will start get stronger and will get used to it.

The only time she's on the floor is when I'm down there playing wth DS. I used a hip carrier with DS, but she's still too little for it. We have a snugli, that we just used at WDW (I too would rather carry my baby), but my girl's got some big thighs, and I think the leg openings are bothering her. Would that be an issue with the slings you're talking about?

I think the SLings are literally just that and the baby lays inside of it like a little hammock! they are super cute!

we use the Bumbo and our daughter LOVED it, the only problem is that she had to stop using it at 6 months as she had learnt how to get out.
We are looking forward to the bigger one that the company is working on.

We used a Bumbo with DD. She really like it until she could sit up on her own. We didn't let her sit in it for long periods of time though.

I'm liking the looks of the slings, but we live in GA. It's already in the 90s now, do the slings get really hot?
Bumbershoot, I noticed it says you're in WA. To give you an idea of how hot it is here, we had to buy clothes when we were in WA last June. We had only shorts and Ts, and when we went over Mt. Rainier, we were freezing. DH used to live there, but he is so acclimated to GA, he forgot it wouldn't be scorching.

I am in Chicago and in house with the AC on in the summer the sling was comfortable!! BUT outside was a whole other story!! even the 'vented' ones were HOT HOT HOT!!!

I love the slings by PEANUT SHELL:

We bought the bumbo seat and took it back the next day. At first our son loved it, then the next day he learned how to wiggle out of it. He was 4 months old. DS hated tummy time to and I was worried but now at 9 months he is doing everything ahead of schedule. He wasn't rolling over until later but then he "got" everything at once. I suggest a sling also. But make sure you buy from a reputable company. I bought from a person on Ebay and they fabric quailty wasn't as think as the real Maya wraps. It had a rip in the seam and I will have to buy a real maya wrap before we go to disney. We still use the sling now at 10 months but now he rides on the hip. It takes practice but once you figure it out, you will wonder how you ever made it without it. DS is very clingy right now and it is the only way I can get anything done. I can't wait to try it at Disney in Sept.

Is it hot? Now any hotter than carrying your child. The sling just holds the weight so you save your arms. I am in Alabama during the hotest drought ever and we still use it.

The bumbo seat works for many and many swear by it. Our son didn't care for it though.

We absolutely LOVED the Bumbo! That is probably one of the baby items we have used the most! My DD loved stitting in it. We even brought it out to dinner and such. POeple were amazed by it. When it came time to start feeding her baby food we jsut sat her in the Bumbo. It was much comfier for her than the big highchair. She started using it at close to 3 months until almost a year! Towards the end she only sat in it if I needed to put her down briefly or to tie up her shoes, otherwise she could get herself out of it.

I was determined to get one with our second son, but soon realized that he would only use it a VERY short time. I used the bobby to help him prop up and see what was going on in the world and honestly, they are sitting up on their own before you know it. Spend the $40 on a really cute outfit...for the baby or yourself!

I think people may not realize how valuable they are until they have one. She was in the Bumbo for a few months before she was able to sit up. We took it to restaurants and everything! This way she was able to sit uo and see everything and we did not have to worry about her falling over or falling out.
