For those of you with young children, what baby proofing items do you take with you on trips? We've got a dedicated two bedroom at the BCV. Also, is the "crib" provided adequate for a one-year old? He will have just turned one at the end of this month. Thanks!

Unless you request a full-size crib, they have pack & plays for the baby to sleep in. They were fine for our kids. (DS slept in it on vacations until he was about 2 and he has always been tall for his age) You do need to bring your own blankets. They provide a fitted sheet but nothing else. BTW, we couldn't find the pack & play for awhile....it's in the trunk/coffee table thing in the living room.

Honestly, we never really got crazy with babyproofing on vacation. Most of the plugs are either behind furniture or high up on counters.

Our first trip with ds he was 10 mos, I took those plastic things for the plug-ins(we were in a studio). I remember the biggest thing we had to watch was we are bad about coming in and emptying our pockets, then he would find the change and want to play with it----YUCK!!!

He slept in the pack and play we lugged with us on the plane, in the car, etc., which was just like the one in the room :confused3 ...next trip I just took my own sheet for the one there.

The biggest issue is the climbing and falling hazards. We have a little climber and she would constantly want to climb up on the breakfast bar granite top, in stocking feet no less. Another climbing point is the whirlpool tub area. If you have a climber, be sure to monitor the patio doors and balconies. I've seen a lot of little ones standing on the plastic patio chairs/table. There is sometimes a balcony off the the 2nd BR. I also check windows and have found them to be out of the track and therefore they could be accidently opened. We also packed their favorite crib toys to help them feel comfortable sleeping the pack-n-play.

Be careful of the balconies. Our 1 year old managed to wedge her head between the pickets at OKW. AAAGGGHH!!

Maybe my kids are just fussbudgets, but nary a one would sleep in the pack-n-play (home or Disney!) THey would toss and turn and "rustle" around all night (so translate that as MOM didnt sleep well, either! :( ) We managed with one as best we could when my dd was 8 mos on a trip at WDW, but when we took her at age 2, we used a bed rail (and a brother!) to keep her in bed! Or she ended up with us, which is less than ideal, but we survived. Thankfully now the little lady wants her own sleeping space (which, given her bizarre nighttime contortions, we are happy to oblige.)

I advised my SIL to get a full sized crib when we went to WDW in August (her son was 8 mos at the time). I connected her with ABBF (A Baby's Best Friend) -- a company that rents all sorts of baby stuff to Disney vacationers. The crib was excellent -- easy to put together, and full-sized. We also requested a full-sized one from Disney -- but as soon as we saw it, we knew we were glad we had rented from ABBF. The larger "cribs" at WDW resorts are not guaranteed (FC,FS, can't reserve, only request at check-in) and they are like the white metal ones they use in the hospital. Given that my nephew had already spent 3 weeks in Children's hosptial for 2 heart surgeries, I am certain that the last thing he (or us!) needed was a reminder, so we were all glad to send it back and keep the much kinder, gentler, Disney-bedding clad full sized ABBF crib! I think she paid $75 for the week for the rental. But, as the saying goes, if baby ain't happy, ain't nobody happy, so it was moolah well spent.

This is a good thread. We'll be traveling for the first time with a baby this coming December. We're newbies and need all the advice we can get! :)

I know at SSR they will bring you a full-size crib on request. Is this true at the other DVC resorts?

You can request it but it isn't guaranteed. They only have a limited amount at the resorts.

When we requested a full size crib it still wasn't fullsize. It was a white metal one with a matress that was too small for it and a sheet that was too large for the matress! The sheet provided for the pack and play doesn't fit it either. We always bring our own pack and play sheet. Also, I would always use Lysol wipes to sanitize the pack and play. You never know it a baby has been teething on the sides, etc. And I don't want a sick kid on vacation.
