We are traveling with our 1 yr old, and he gets into everything at home. We are staying at BWV 2 bedroom.
He crawls extremely well right now, and shimmies along things, and likes to push and shake things to test them out. Uses his push walker to walk, so he might be walking as well. He likes to shove everything in his mouth too so the he is going to get lots of new germs on vacation... i hope he stays well.

So, I'm trying to plan ahead about what to bring/buy along to keep him safe.

Anyone hazard a guess to how many outlet covers i need. I'm not sure how many outlets are out in the open vs behind the couch, etc?

Kitchen cabinets, a favorite right now? Are there knobs on the cabinet, or no knobs, what have people done to keep the kids out? I'm remembering there are no knobs.

Are there other things I'm forgetting that other parents out there take care of when going to a dvc resort.

tia,

I thought they had knobs on the cabinets, but it has been a while since we stayed there. I would plan just using the pack and play as much as needed.

Just don't use tape on painted surfaces like cabinet doors to keep them shut. You may need to keep him "on a leash" while in the villa or in the PNP. He is going to be frustrated.

We stayed with our twins in hotel room suites (not DVC, not even Disney) when they were 17 months - 2 years old and up. In those days, I did tape some dresser drawers with packing tape (although I agree with a PP to watch what surfaces you are working with). I brought a bag of childproofing items which included outlet covers, cabinet locks (in case you get lucky with knob placement), and those "C" shaped foam pieces that keep doors from closing on little fingers. We also had several night lights, which we actually still travel with, even though the kids are eight now.

You can do a lot with moving sharp/breakable items to higher cabinets too.

Packing tape should never be used on furniture as it is not ment to be removed.

Regarding outlet covers, at most DVC resorts a dozen should cover the outlets. Not every wall has an outlet. Regarding the cabinets, you can move items from the lower cabinets up out of reach of the child versus trying to lock the cabinet. Or place the plastic items down low. But then the baby can still pinch fingers on doors.

Lastly don't forget to move any wires to the phone and TV behind the furniture if it's exposed.

The key at that age is to do things to slow them down so that you can get to them before they can do any/much harm. I have also found moving furniture to be helpful (we always put back before leaving) in some situations. We move stuff out of lower to upper cabinets a lot.

I forgot until I read this, but we actually unplugged the phone(s). Didn't want anyone dialing Fiji by mistake! :rotfl:

We stayed in a AK GV when our children were 2 and 1. Both running circles around us. We lifted trash cans, I brought an entire pack of outlet covers which we still had some left over after covering every room, we used rubber bands to keep cabinets side by side closed instead of bringing the "C" shaped clips at home.

What you might want to do is keep some harmless things in a drawer at their level so they know they can crawl/walk to it and find stuff safe to play with. A lot of kids at that age just like banging on pots. I'm not saying give them the villas pots, but maybe bring some safe toys and stuff to put in a draw so when they go exploring you know what they are going to get is safe :).

You can always close off the two bedrooms and keep them contained in the living room to play supervised this way it's less you have to baby proof. To be honest it was a lot less stressful then I thought it would be bringing children that small :).

Lol!! Just thinking the same thing. I'm still here, and I believe I grew up with lead paint on the walls!

:rotfl2: I know we got our hands smacked a lot, must have worked though. I never remember anyone getting hurt or eating something they shouldn't have. Well a little dirt but that never hurt anyone. :goodvibes

When mine were little I did not cover outlets, we just kept them away from them. :confused3

I couldnt imagine being in the room long enough to need to do much baby proofing. But we are a go go go type.
