A friend of mine had a baby last week. I stopped by yesterday to take some pictures. I think this is the fourth time I've done a nearly newborn photo shoot. I still have a lot to learn, but I'm getting better results.
I did the shoot with a Canon 5DM2 and two lenses - 85mm f/1.2 and 24mm f/1.4. I used a pair of flashes (both 580EX2) with one on-camera and one shooting through a softbox. I also use a white reflector. The on-camera flash was used in lots of different ways - direct fill, ceiling bounce, reflector bounce, and just as a commander.
For post-processing, I used Lightroom. One "trick" I found very useful was to apply negative clarity. That helped smooth the baby skin and give it a bit of a soft-focus look.

. I wish I had my DSLR when my little one was born. Now she is 1 and I have to catch her on the run which is sooo much harder.
My sister's baby is due any day now and I am all ready with my new camera, new lens arrived in the mail today .... and you have inspired me to take loads of photos. She and her husband just don't ever seem to think of using a camera
