Do infants ride Disney buses unrestrained? Are there any seats on the buses that have seatbelts? I don't remember ever seeing any. It just seems very scary to me to think of unrestrained babies on those roads full of tourists (like me) who aren't sure where they are going.

I don't think I have ever seen a bus anywhere with child restraints. I believe they are exempt.

Buses are designed differently than cars. They are designed to keep you safe in the event of a crash.

Having seat belts would be great for extra safety but most transportation companies don't want the extra cost of installing and maintaining the seat belts.

I had the same concern on our trip last year with 2 DD's age 1 and 2. Since we drive I had intended on NOT using Disney transportation for that reason. I did wind up using the buses anyway because they were sooo conveinent. I havent ever heard of any accidents involving Disney buses (although Disney seems to be good about hiding things) so I assume it is safe.

If you have a real small baby, maybe you would feel better with them in a front carrier? Downside, in a crash, you may wind up lying on top of them:confused:

Depends. My daughter was 3 the first time she rode Disney transportation. I wasn't crazy about her being unrestrained. DH is a cop in DC and DM is a trauma nurse in NY and between the two of them I was pretty sure my dd was going to fly out the windshield at any moment! The WDW buses don't move very fast, but that doesn't mean something won't happen. The one thing I will say is that you should definitely be seated with a child. Don't stand holding a baby hoping that the bus won't stop short. There's not enough magic in all of Disney to protect a baby flying through the air at 20mph.

WDW buses have been in accidents I'm afraid. In fact, during a trip years ago when we were staying at the Fairway Villas, we were waiting for a bus at the stop located in our bungalow. The bus is thundering down the road, gradually slowing down. It had apparently didn't slow down enough because it'd didn't make the turn (a rather tight turn) and proceeded to slide into the drainage ditch a few feet from us.

The driver couldn't budge the bus out of the ditch and the folks inside were scrambling. After a few minutes of lurching about, he opened the doors and let everyone off.

Thank God no one was hurt and the bus was undamaged. It was just driver error, albeit really, really, really stupid driver error.

We were there with my daughter in May and June and she was almost 3 months and almost 4 months during the trips and we used the Disney buses. About 90% of the time she was in a Baby Bjorn, mostly cause I needed my hands free to carry a bag, water, etc., while my husband carted the stroller around. I did feel a little better about her being in the Bjorn, so that if we did stop short or something like that at least I wouldn't have to worry about holding onto her, but there were times when she fell asleep in my arms and I just carried her that way onto the bus. People were great about getting up to give me a seat if the bus was full, which was very nice cause I did feel much safer in a seat than on the few occasions I had to stand.

No seat belts - just make sure you hold onto little ones! I always sit next to DD on the bus and have my arm around her or in front of her just in case.
