I am assuming it is pronounced attalee? But the way it's spelled seems like, well--Attaboy! That's the way to hit a home run! So I thought, attalie, like "good lie" or "way to lie." And that's not a good name. Nobody wants to be associated with lying.

When I first saw it, I thought "(th)At-a-lie". Why would you name a child a lier?? :confused3

It wasnt' until I saw the posts making it rhyme with Natalie that I realized I was pronouncing it wrong. :rolleyes1

I don't like it either.

The "Natalie" thing is so true. Plus, there's the two "t" thing, which will confuse things even more. She'll have to spell it for people the rest of her life every single time, and she'll get all kinds of weird looks, "whats?", "huhs?", etc.

She also could easily end up with the cruel nickname of "Attila", which is the first name I thought of when I saw it.

yep, that was my first thought - Attila the hun :)

I like the name. I have not heard it before, so I can't agree with other posters that it sounds too trendy. Which, by the way, there's nothing wrong with that.
I hadn't heard it before, either, but it still sounds trendy to me, as in the current trend of making up unique names and creative spellings.

There's nothing "wrong" with it, if that's what you like, but some people don't like following trends, and there's nothing wrong with that, either.

I don't like it. As someone who has spent her whole life spelling her name to people I can tell you it is not fun. People want to call me Marybeth, they spell it in odd ways, the one I hate the most is when they call me Mary, because of course they hear it as Mary Bet and Bet has to be my middle name. Many people add the "H" and when it involves my medical records I make sure they change it.

I was 18 before I stopped hating it myself. My 5th grade teacher told me that I should know how to spell my own name, and when my mother called her she finally got the spelling but said it was a stupid name. I did not do well in the 5th grade.

I have reached the point that I correct people once and unless they are someone I have to deal with all the time than I just let it go. There are so many strange names these days that you would think it would get easier but it has not.

I'm a teacher & would feel silly calling that name out all day long...but then again, I feel silly calling out a lot of particular names all day long (Pilot??? Come on...yes, I had one named "Pilot").

I HEAR YA!

Over the past 21 years in teaching, I've had a lot of unusual names, but they usually grow on me.

Names that didn't grow on me:

Honesty
Precious
Treasure
Messiah - - yeah, MESSIAH!!!! We actually had a teacher complain that she absolutely would not call a child "Messiah", since that was the name of her Lord and Savior. YIKES!
