Baby Jogger City single or MacLaren XLR?

Hi,

I have a 5 yr old daughter, special needs (behavior, speech, cognitive).
We currently have Inglesina Swift stroller but she is passed the weight limit. She is 42 lbs. We put her in a MacLaren Quest at Babies R US but she looked so big for it. The 2007 MCL XLR is 1 and half inches wider,65 lb limit and around $350, but cant find it locally to try out.

The other choice is the Baby Jogger City with swivel wheels and weight limit 75lbs. This is around $250. Will have to try and find one locally, I hope to try.


Anyone used these strollers? Which one is roomier? Easier to fold/carry?

My Baby Jogger is 10 yrs old. When my son outgrew it we loaned it to a friend until that child outgrew it, then loaned to to another family with a disabled child. I am now using it for my youngest. The wheel frames are getting a bit rusty but it is still very usable after 10 yrs of constant use. I don't travel with it unless I am driving the pickup truck. Maybe the newer ones fold more compactly. I use my outside - wonderful for ungroomed trails and "off road" hiking. Maybe not terrible for the state fair or even a theme park, but too big for shopping malls, because you couldn't get around display racks with those big wheels.

I think the name of the stroller my friends are using now the Maclaren Major. Their disabled child is 6, so it must have a pretty high weight limit. There is a wonderful seller on eBay that sells that stroller and lots of stuff for Autistic children. (I don't know if I can post her user name but I think that is enough information for you to find her.) I have a Maclaren Volo and the frame of the Major is similar, except bigger and much sturdier.

You may be able to get a special needs stroller paid for by your insurance with a prescription from her doctor. Even if your child can walk, she might be in need of a stroller for safety or because she will not walk when you need her to.
Adaptivemall has a very good selection of special needs strollers. Even if you don't buy from them, they have a lot of information.
