My niece recently had triplets, and I am struggling for gift ideas. I had asked her if she would like a GC for a "meal prep" place, and she did not want that. She suggested diapers.

I WILL NOT buy someone diapers for a baby present. Sorry - if I am going to buy a baby present, I would like it to last. Not even a remote possibility.

Since this niece lives out of town, our side of the family did not do a shower, as she had many restrictions during her pregnancy. So, there is just nothing left on her resgistry.

They live near Detroit, and, I am thinking something like this:

Infant snuggle thing

Any thoughts? Anyone use something like this?

That's cute.

But I'd still send her some diapers too.

Or how about a diaper service?

Honestly, if she said she wanted diapers that's what I would buy her.
I'm guessing w/ triplets practical gifts are appreciated.

Seeing as how she suggested diapers, I would get her diapers. :confused3

In addition, depending on how fast the babies grow, the present that you would like to get may have limited use if they grow out of their infant seats midway through winter or they are using a convertable car seat and not using an infant carrier-type seat.

I'm thinking the babies might be too big for these come winter time. And with triplets, she might not be taking them out very often.

What about giving a gift certificate for a professional photography session at home?

Sorry if she asked for diapers I would give it to her. I can't imagine how many diapers she is going though in a week. Much more practical than the cover thing.

When my SIL had triplets, I bought them personalized blankets. They were very pretty with their name and birth date embroidered on them. I also bought diapers ;)

My 2nd thought (after the meal-prep place) was a GC for a prof. photographer, but I didn't know how far my $100 would go, and I didn't want to give them a gift that would "cost them money", plus, since we don't live in that area, I would have no clue on a good photographer.

The triplets are now 4 months old, so by the winter, they'll be getting out more. I just think those would be better than getting 3 babies into snow suits.

Why not give her a gift card to Babies R Us ....

once you give the gift they can use it as they see fit....and if that's diapers, that's diapers.

I had two kids. They are now 12 and 9. Recently I've been going through all of their baby things that well meaning people gave them b/c they didn't want to get them something practical......picture frames, personalized silver banks, knick knacks, and 15,000 stuffed animals. What I really needed as a new mom with limited resources was diapers, or formula or baby food.

Just my $0.02 FWIW

As the Mom of triplets, get her the diapers. We were given so much stuff and when you have three baby's at once stuff is just not practical. Diapers, wipes, formula or savings bonds. Further more, since this is what she wants it makes it a easy gift! :sunny:

A lot of people I know get car seats with the Snugli included.

But I'd get the thing she needs, wants, can use, and asked for...I'd get the diapers. Buying diapers for three kids can get expensive and they might really come in handy.

I would get her diapers. My friend had triplets and diapers were the one thing she was always in need of. You asked her what she wanted, and she did say diapers. If you are totally opposed to diapers, then I would get her a gift card to Babies R Us and let her choose what she thinks they need most. Practical gifts are much better than cutesy or fun gifts.

Although I've been hearing lately (ok, listening to Dave Ramsey podcasts) that savings bonds are a waste of money b/c the rate of return is so small. :confused3 Dunno if I'm hearing that right. I'm just now beginning to understand finances beyond balancing my checkbook and paying bills on time.

I think the gift card is a good idea to or the personal blankets. But I have a few of my kids blankets and don't know what to do with them. I am saving them for me more then them I think. And will they really remember who gave what I don't. I know you want to give something with meaning but she did ask for diapers. This way she may be very grateful for the extra money to get something that she wants.

I would get her the diapers as she suggested but why not get her a Gift Card from TARGET. Go online to Target.com and under store locations put in her zip code and see if there is a Target near her. Let her decide at Target whether it is diapers to bedding to even baby clothes she can then get for the BABES.

You can even OPT to have Target send the gift card directly to them. You can select a gift card with a baby card as well. ALL DONE RIGHT ON YOUR COMPUTER!!

EASY & EASY!!! :thumbsup2

Ok, thinking of something....

you aren't in the same town? I wouldn't get diapers then. I'd definitely get a gift card to a place where she could BUY diapers on her own. Shipping on diapers would be ridiculous.

Think about 3 babies.....probably changed an minimum of 8 times a day....
YEOWZER....that's at least 720 diapers a MONTH!!!

and they ain't cheap!

My son was out of his infant car seat by six months. The Snuggle thing was useless - he was born in a warm-ish March and by the time winter rolled around, he was too big for the seat it was supposed to go with.

If she wants diapers, may I suggest Fuzzi Bunz? ;)

I would get each a $25 savings bond (12.50 each) and send the rest of the money you were going to spend as a gift card so your niece can get what she needs--diapers, formulas, gift cards, etc. Or can you get a gift card directly to Target portrait studios for the balance? That would help with picture costs for them.

Before i would buy the snugli or something like that I would be sure to check if she already has it or even wants it, especially if you are ordering online.

Sorry, but I definitely wouldn't buy the snugli thing - my DD was very tall and outgrew the infant seat at 4 months. When you really think about it, there are few things that you can buy for babies that they will use for a long time. They outgrow everything so fast. My DD is almost 2 1/2 and I still shudder at the price of diapers for just her. I can't imagine the cost of buying diapers for triplets. I would also recommend a gift card to Target or Babies r us so that she can go buy the kind she prefers. The portrait is a nice thought but if she is asking for help with the diapers, she must need it and it will be appreciated much more.

The car seat blankets are really nice but once they are big enough that their feet hit the end of the car seat they are useless. A gift that I got for my DD that I really liked was a Halo Sleep Sack .
They are great for Michigan winters. If you wanted to make them more personal you could find someone to embroider their names on the front.

If you decide to go with diapers buy them from Amazon and have them shipped right to her. The prices are pretty good and they usually have free super saver shipping on diapers if you spend $25 or more.

I am in the Detroit area also. If you need any help with what stores are in the area let me know.
