We only have a few days to wait now!!!! We leave England on Friday morning for our long (but so worthwhile) journey to The Beach Club.

I have been packing and trying to get prepared in advance to save last minute stress. I am also trying to resist the temptation to pack too many clothes knowing we will buy lots at the Outlet Malls! I am finding it hard to know what to take as the weather can vary so much in December.

Just 2 questions regarding food for my 6 month old daughter...

She loves Petit Filous yogurts and will never refuse one even when she is being fussy. They are made with full fat milk and fruit puree and contain nothing artificial. Can anyone recommend a similar product that I can buy for her in the US stores?

We sometimes use powdered baby cereals and foods that you add formula or hot water to. Are these available in the US or is it mainly jars?

Sorry to ask dumb questions, your products often differ to ours which makes for interesting shopping but this is my first trip with a baby and Im not sure what I need to bring from home. I cannot wait to get in the supermarket/pharmacy and buy diapers and other stuff....Crazy English woman!!!

The closest thing to that is probably going to be YoBaby Organic Yogurt, made by Stonyfield Farm. Another possibility would be Brown Cow.

The problem that you are going to encounter is that Orlando is not a big natural-foods market. Neither of the 3 major US natural-foods supermarket chains have opened branches there yet. The store most likely to carry these brands would be Publix, but I would not count on them being available unless you call.

Oh, also, dehydrated baby foods have not caught on here. Dry cereals are available, rice, oatmeal, etc. If you want fruits, vegetables or meats, you will be dealing with jarred. If you prefer organic jarred foods, the most commonly available brands are "Earth's Best" and the "Tender Harvest" range made by Gerber. Most US kiddies are on table food by about 10 months of age, so the selection of packaged "toddler foods" is rather limited.

I just wanted to agree with the above poster. In the refrigerated section is where you can usually find them. They come in small sized plastic containers - in a pack of six. They are light yellow in color, I think - and have a baby on top with pictures of fruit. They are WONDERFUL and have the cream on top (made with what we call here "Whole Milk" - which is full fat milk). They are organic and made with fruit puree as well - a wonderful product. However, they need to be refrigerated at all times, so it might not be something you'll want to bring to parks (unless you have a diaper bag with the little freezer packs).

Our daughters LOVED Earth's Best - or Healthy Kids (even better!)
Gerber brand was okay - not great, but a decent organic option at the mainstream grocery stores. All the organic baby foods come in jars only...and the conventional baby foods now come in little plastic stacking containers, but only in a few flavors.

If you have dehydrated foods that are easy to rehydrate in the park, I'd bring a couple packs/pouches/boxes with you. You can always pre-measure them out (as to what your daughter would eat in one sitting) and add hot/warm water at the table (restaurants should be able to provide you with a cup of hot water - they'd do it for tea, I'd imagine). Those little tiny Ziplock or Gladware (disposable tupperware) containers would be perfect for this - and you could wash them out at the hotel in the evenings.
