I was just wondering for those out there who remember (or are going through) the early weeks with a baby, do you remember how long it took you to get on a feeding/sleeping schedule?

I wish I could really remember with my son, I know it was somewhere around the 6/7 week mark where he was sleeping in his crib (out of the bassinet) for about 5 or so hours at a time and he was going longer inbetween feedings.

My 2 week old wants to eat his bottle every 2-2.5 hours and he's sleeping only about 2 hours at a time with some awake time in the morning and around dinner time. He's slowly adjusting to the night/day thing as well.

Thanks for any input - just curious!

my daughter was up every 2- 2 1/2 hours for the first 4-5 months to eat....I was EXHAUSTED at work after being up every 2 hours....I remember one night just sitting on the bed and crying because I was so tired. She didn't sleep much during the day either so it wasn't like she had night and day screwed up...every kid does their own thing LOL...

I can't even begin to remember back that far but I wanted to say "He's darling."

All of mine were sleeping about 8 hours a night by 5 weeks. DD#1 started sleeping through the night at 2 weeks and slept from 9pm-10am by about a month :love2: , but she hardly napped during the day.

I remember all 3 of mine getting on something of a schedule by 12 weeks. Sleeping about 5 or 6 hours straight, plus naps during the day.

He's adorable, Congratulations!

Right now Eli sleeps 3-4 hours at night. Then he wakes up to eat and goes back to sleep. He takes to 2-3 hour naps during the day. (He is 11 weeks.) Avery, on the other hand, would wake up every 2 hoursat night, but slept better during the day.

I have never tried to put my kids on a schedule. I just followed theirs. :)

A baby on a schedule???? Hmmm...what's that? ;) Your little one sure is a cutie! :) Just when the kids seemed to get on a schedule...they would change it. I decided that I would try to convince myself that I wouldn't be able to look at my little bundle of joy's precious face while they ate forever...I will never forget that smile of content after they were finished & falling back to sleep. Neither of them slept thru the night until they got out of their crib at 18 months & moved into their big bed.

Both of mine seemed to get on a schedule somewhere between 8 and 10 weeks. Liam is adorable, congratulations!!!

Well my oldest ds never did get on a sleep schedule. He fed every 1.5 hours and it took about 1 hour to feed him. Yeah, that was fun and I was so well rested!! So I learned to sleep in a recliner w/ him til he was about 2 yrs then we decided to co-sleep so I wouldn't be a zombie. (we learned much later on that he had real problems!)

My dd was sleeping for 12 hours straight by about 10 days old. I thought I had gone to HEAVEN!! I have never known a baby to do that at such an early age.

Then I had ds#2 and though I was in he!!. He was almost as bad as the first child. Oh well, I guess it was a boy thing.......say didn't you say yours is a boy?

Good luck!

Hillbeans - that sounds about right for his age, one of my friends had her baby in June this year and she has only just really established a feeding/ sleeping routine because she was a really colicky baby. Ellie is almost 5 months now and has just started to sleep through.

Your little one is so beautiful - babies are such a miracle. :)

That sounds very normal. For bf'ed babies it's about every 1 to 2 hours.

My 3mo dd is a catnapper. She takes short catnaps throughout the day then sleeps from 10pm after her bath until 7 am the next morning.

I think for all 5 of my kids they settled around the 6 to 10 week age. Then they went thru a growth spurt and suddenly were hungrier than normal. :faint: Wait a minute, rewind LOL - they go thru numerous growth spurts. :)

Hang in there! :wizard:

I just fed dd whenever she was hungry which averaged anywhere from 2-4 hours and less than that between feedings during growth spurts. Now she has just recently started solids but she still takes a bottle every 2-4 hours!

As far as sleeping, she started sleeping through the night by 2 months, but she did not have a set bedtime which started becoming a problem when she wanted to stay up late and sleep in really late. Actually, that is the way I always have slept too so it really wouldn't have been so bad if it wasn't for the fact that dh isn't used to that and I wanted her to have a normal bedtime, not her mommy's bedtime. So I started letting her cry it out for about a week at 3.5 months. Now she goes to bed without any problems anywhere from 7-8 at night and she sleeps through the night. I wouldn't have let her cry it out any sooner than I did though.

Thanks everyone!! I am getting used to the 2 hour sleep schedule, and I know it'll get more regular in the next few months.

LOL - Tasha and Scott - I like your signature line - how funny!

My older son ate more at a feeding, and seemed to go at least 3 hours between feedings, but this one eats every 2 hours like clockwork!

Noah had a set schedule by 7-8 weeks, sleeping through the night from 10pm - 6 am. Of course even now that can get thrown off by a growth spurt or illness, he just had a virus and that through his entire schedule out of whack. But he's better now and went right back to it. At 2 weeks he started sleeping 4 hour stretches at a time. Liam is a cutie and I love his name! :goodvibes
