baby carriers

I have an 18lb 7 month old who will need to be held in line at DL in a little over 2 weeks. I would like a carrier for him so I don't kill my back. I have a Bjorn, but he's too heavy for that to be comfy any more. Any suggestions? Also can he stay in it on the rides? Thanks!

My husband and I upgraded to Ergo carriers after the Bjorns were not working for us anymore with our twins. We plan to use those on our first trip as a family in a few weeks. The ergos have the benefit of also having a nice waist band so that the baby's weight is being carried by your hips and not just hanging off of your shoulders. I also like that they can be used to a fairly high weight limit and that they have a zippered pocket in the front.

The Ergo carriers are pretty well known and sometimes a little easier to find used compared to some of the lesser known (but great carriers) like the Calyx etc. There is a site called "the baby wearer" that has a ton of information on different types of carriers. We plan to also take our stroller and throw the carriers in the bottom and use them when we are in line for rides. I hope you find a carrier that works for you and your little one.

i have an ergo baby carrier that lets me carry my 21 lb 8 month old practically all day. i'm definitely bringing it to DL next month. i walk really long distances carrying him in it and it seems to work out well. i've also tried to put my 5yo in it for a bit and it actually went ok!! lol.

I love our Ergo. We still even use it for our 3.5 year old - she's still under 35lbs. I can backpack her for a really long time and not have issues and I have disc protusions in my lumbar.

For our trip when DS was one, I used a fabric mei tai. It was good at the time.

But then when he turned 2 I discovered the Ergo and I was in looooove. For the no-stroller no-walking parts of our trip when he was 2.5, I did a back carry with him in the Ergo and it was great.

Thank you so much! Ergo it is...now just deciding on which one leaning towards the sport, sounds even nicer then the others.

I prefer the Beco over the Ergo (and a couple more over those two but they are harder to get). Definitly practice back carries. I did them with the girls from a year on and never looked back. If you have a local babywearing group, you might want to email the leader and see about checking out a carrier from their library (if they have on) and they can also help you get used to it.

That is a thread from disabilities discussing baby carriers.
Secon page has picture of a nice mei tei thingy. Carriers are fine but they get in the way when on rides and they told one dude to take off his backpack at the canal boats. The cloth ones roll or fold up and are easier to use for lines.

It looks and feels like a giant fanny pack. It has a hard plastic seat, or shelf, they sit on. You do need to hold them with your arm because there is no back but we still use this for our petite 34 pound 4 year old. We started using it a little older 9 or 10 months. Good alternative to get them out of the stroller for a while without the hassle of a carrier.

We will be packing our Ergo as well as a Mei Tei carrier. Can't wait!
