I'm a babywearing momma and just thought I would mention my newest carrier. It's a bECO from www.ecobabies.com. I had to wait forever for it but I love it. Much like the ergo only beautiful fabric choices!

I love it so much I'm going to post a pic! I am so excited to use it when we head for Orlando in the fall.

I'm trying to think of what kind of carrier to use for our upcoming trip. DD is 21 pounds. Wearing her on my back would be ideal comfort-wise, but I worry since I can't see behind myself, and there are a lot of people at Disney. I have a bjorn and a simple wrap (which she hates). I haven't had her in the bjorn in months. I was considering a playtex hip hammock. Any suggestions?

My ds is almost the same age as your dd and close to the same weight. If you want long term carries, I'd do an ergo, a patapum, bECO or some other structured back carrier. I must say at this weight I find it much more comfy to carry him on my back. I have a mei tai that I love for front carries but as he gets bigger and heavier it's not as comfy for me as a back carry.

I have a Beco (obviously) and a patapum. I love them both. The bjorn just cannot compare to how comfy they are. I have never used the playtex hip hammock so can't comment on it. I do use other carries for a hip carry. They are great for short carries but if I'm going to have him in there for a while, I go with a back carry.

I hadn't really thought about other people being an issue when he is in the back carry. I hope it's not!! He loves the back carry! I never thought I would like it but I really do.

I am planning on bringing a wrap and my Ergo for our up-coming trip. I like the Ergo for really long back carries; it is very comfortable and distributes the weight very well. I have never had trouble with him in the Ergo in crowds. The worst thing is when he grabs someone, but, hey, he's a toddler, he grabs stuff. My only problem with back carries at DW is getting on and off rides. You have to take him off everytime. If you are using a front carry they wil usually let you keep the carrier on (depending on the ride of course).

A wrap is a great option because of it's flexibility. I like using it for hip carries when we're out shopping, and it also doubles as a great sunshade, and blanket. The one I have is a Gypsy Mama Bali Breeze (it's actually a limited edition orchid wrap, very pretty ), I like the GMBB because it folds up very small, and since it is gauze it is not hot to wear, and the material is easy to deal with.

Another good option for an older kid in a situation where you will be taking them in and out of carriers a lot, is a pouch. I use mine quite a bit with my son, usually in a hip carry. I think they distribute the weight better than the hip hammock because the material is wider, so there are less pounds per square inch. It's extremely simple to use since there is nothing to adjust.

I just tried on the hip hammock at BRU and I LOVED it! She felt very comfortable in it and I think I'll get one when I go to DLR in November.

I tried the pouch but my baby boutique store couldn't figure it out and neither could I!

Ergo or Beco, in our local baby wearing community we tried the patapum and while it worked better than a bjorn it had some good qualities the ergos good outweighed the patapum. I hear the Beco is better than the ergo but they take so long to get I wont have one when I go to WDW

BEco's just came into our world (they take longer to get)

I wouldnt worry about not being able to see your baby in your back carrier, since the Ergo and Beco dont have anything between you and baby you can feel her every breath and wiggle

I usually swap my baby from front to back in the ergo pretty easily so comofrt in lines and quick bounce to the front and we are on the ride.

I am meeting a mom on the 6th at 4 who is having trouble working her ergo so seriously if anyone is interested in joining us it is just as easy to be 10 moms as it is to be 2

tanya- that is a beautiful carrier!
Like I said, we have the fleece pouch from Kangaroo Korner, but I use that for hip carry and I don't feel comfortable using it for back carry (although I know some moms do that, I think).

How old is your dd?
Mine is 21 months and about 24 lbs. I wonder how comfortable that is.. is it pretty easy to put on by yourself?

If you are talking about the bECO, yes, it's easy to put on. Takes a little practice, but once you get the hang of it, it's easy.

I actually really like our patapum as well. For me they are both really comfy. The difference is the beco has a taller body. I have the infant version of the patapum and now that my ds is bigger he seems to be leaning back more and the shorter body makes me a little nervous. The patapum is cheaper and easier to get than the Beco. The Ergo is about the same price and easy to get as well. I don't have an Ergo but have heard nothing but great things about it. A cool feature of the Ergo is that you can buy a backpack that attaches to the Ergo.

Getting a kiddo in and out of the back carry really is pretty easy once you get used to it. My ds is used to it now so he just sort of lays on my back! He knows what to do. My dd is old enough that she just jumps up on my back on the rare occassion that I carry her in it!

The ergo is slightly more expensive than the patapum

I am told the ergo and Beco are very simular the difference is the pretty fabric and the wait time

The ergo is fantastic I have been using mine for nearly 3 years I upgraded to the new generation last spring and am very happy.
