My Mom called today. She's visiting her sis in West Palm.
They had luch w/ their cousin's daughter today.
She told them she was managing a bakery in NY. And that they are opening their newest shop in Downtown Disney. It will be in the old McDonald's.

Since we will be there next week when they have opening day Nov.8th, she thought I'd like to know.
So I thought you'd like to know.
My extended Dis family.

That would be great as I really really miss the old Gourmet Pantry where they had delicious and sometimes unusual bakery goods! Will look forward to hearing more about this place.

I almost got excited. LOL! I combed the web to make sure, but McDonald's is being replaced by Pollo Campero. I also found Disney's press release substantiating this.

Also, here's a pic from May of a map for Downtown Disney showing Pollo where McDonald's used to be.

I'd much rather see a cupcake shop. Maybe it's coming but in a different location at Downtown Disney? I did a bunch of searching but found nothing on the web about it. I was soooo hoping I would. **sniffle sniffle**

Come to think of it, didn't the cupcake shop at Downtown Disney District in Anaheim start out as a temporary kiosk or shop of some sort during the holidays last year...sorta to test the waters or something??? They opened a permanent location for cupcakes called 'The Cupcake Store'. What I found said it was coming last month but I didn't see it listed on DL's website. Maybe this is gonna be *near* the old McDonalds to see how it goes over? It'd be a good location, IMO!

Baby Cakes is also not an average cupcake shop - they don't use refined ingredients like white sugar or standard white flour.

Mind you...I believe sugar is sugar regardless of it's honey, white sugar or agave syrup - it all hits your bloodstream at about the same speed. But that's an arguement for another time

I have only heard of the chicken place going into the old McDonald's location.
And consider an Orlando area cupcake baker won on Food Network's Cupcake Wars. If a place would open, too bad they would not use her!

I've heard rumors about a cupcake shop going in DTD. Nothing to say two new eateries can't go in the McDonald's old spot. I'll be there to check it out.

As far as using local talent ... it takes more than winning na contest, such as $$$$ and reputatuion. I would imagine the franchise owner of any new store in DTD needs a lot of financial backing (not Disney money) to meet Disney requirements for building.

There is an announcement forthcoming about what will be built on Pleasure Island in the area where the BET Soundstage and the Adventurers Club now stand, as it's confirmed that those two buildings will be demolished.

Maybe the cupcake shop will go there. Althought that does NOT work with an opening day of November 8. And Disney has made no announcements regarding a cupcake shop.

With all the good treats at Disney (especially having Goofy's kitchen right there), a cupcake shop doesn't stand a chance...

Goofy's kitchen doesn't hold a candle to the old Gourmet Pantry so I'm seriously hoping a decent bakery will go somewhere in DTD. LOL
