Has anyone had any experience with those baby backpack carriers?
I'm thinking it might be an alternative to the stroller but I'm not sure about getting it on and off all the rides...

but I have heard slings and the EZ carrier are good. I tried to carry my DD1 (24 pounds at the time) in the EZ carrier, and found that it was a pain to keep putting her in and out on the lines. DH and I just took turns carrying her, which we will do this time (she is now 30 lbs :earseek: ) or maybe we can just stand her up between us when we need a break. The stroller was the best thing to have, except on line.

We have a backpack. It's good for little ones too big for a Snugli type thing.

I wouldn't recommend it for the parks though. Like mentioned in the previous post, it's kind of a pain to keep taking baby out and putting him back in.

It's much better for something like the zoo, where you want your little one to be able to see stuff, but don't need to get him out repeatedly.

We're just going to use a stroller.

Plus, you will get VERY hot and 25-30 lbs on your back for the day takes a toll.

We have one for DS 2.5 and he loves it, I am thinking about taking it, but the in and out thing is bad. I thought it would be nice for nights and fireworks etc.. but we are flying down so I may not bother.

We have a backpack/stroller! It has wheels that lock in place and a handle that slides in when used as a backpack. I think it might be great next trip. We used a sling last time, when our youngest was 9 months. Ours was bought second hand, but it is made by InStep. We use it all the time at the zoo. Highly recommend it.

I'd say don't take it – DH uses our backpack all the time when he takes DDD on hikes but it is really awkward in crowds or shops, you can't turn in small spaces very well (it would have been so difficult in something like the peter pan ride) and even with the sunshade up I would worry about heat stroke...
You don't say how old your little one is but I'd say the stroller or bijorn would be better for almost any baby.

Most rides don't have the capacity to let you take a frame pack onto the vehicle, so you have to leave it with the ride operator. I'd stick with a sling or something like it for lines, and use the stroller between rides.

One trick that is actually a little helpful for older toddlers who just want to be held some of the time: a styrofoam block in a waist pack. Yep, you heard right. Get a styrofoam block and trim it to fill the interior of a waist pack that has a flat-shaped top. Worn on your hip, it gives you a place to prop a certain little bottom and takes some of the weight off your shoulders.
