Hi! When i go my son will be 13 months, but as he is low birthweight baby will prob still be on formula.... so heres my questions! whats the best way to get formula over, we are flying, tins are huge. how do people deal with that issue..staying at sante fe i think. And what about food..he wont be able to eat steak and chips... do they have bananas to mash up etc? or good baby jars to make life easy on holiday? what are my options??

also... will be taking my 4 year old, will i be able to sit baby on my lap for any of the rides, like its a small world etc?? or are they all a nono?

and if you can..are there "buggy parks" to use, so your bags and buggy are safe while you are on ride?
sorry about all the questions!!!!!!!! but cant think about much else!!!

You should be fine with holding the baby on rides like Its a small world.

Regarding formula, could you not just buy the ready made cartons just for the trip? If you are worried about luggage space, i'm sure that Auchan sell the premade cartons, fruit. It is just one stop up on the train.

They have places for you to leave you buggy, just don't leave any bags on them & you should be fine. We never had ours taken when we were there.

reguarding baby formulae, when i went when middle son was a babe i took the formulae that was already made up in the little cartons and then just transferred it into his bottle and fed him. many restaurants have baby bottle warmers and i know in the backlot in the studios i believe they had other food warming things there. i'm not sure if they do baby jars. you could poss give disney a ring and ask if you dont get the answers here first.

i sat my son on my lap on its a small world, but other rides i think you may have to do baby switch, the cm are very helpful and will advise you accordingly.

We took the ready made formula with us in our cases (not hand luggage) and it was fine. We wrapped them in about 4 carrier bags, incase they were bashed and burst open.

You can buy some of the pureed foods in pots from some of the shops in and around Main Street. And also I know the Cheyenne gift shop sold them and the train station.

As for your buggy, I was also worried about ours being taken, so TOP TIP - take a bike chain and attach to pram and the nearest railings by the ride.

I stressed about taking our 15 month old daughter ( what if I need more nappies, will she eat the food, the list could go on and on..) but all in all, it was really easy. More bothered about our trip in 3 weeks, she was 2 yesterday, so TERRIBLE tantrum stage. Oh, well at least there are many distractions!!!

What a great idea! That's one I'll have to try with our next trip! Did the CMs give you a funny look when you did that?

really good idea! thank you!

For the formula, you could also get individual powder sachets of formula to reduce the weight of luggage. Think SMA do them. The only thing is you'll have to ask at the cafes/restaurants for hot/cold water, which I'm sure they'll be happy to provide you with?! I'm sure you can also request for a kettle for your room. We did that when we stayed at Sequoia a couple of years ago when DS was still on formula (he was about a year old then).

We went by Eurostar then and we packed enough jar foods/fruit purees to last him the entire stay. We only needed about 10 jars really (for lunch/dinner as he had toast for brekkie) and they were heavy. But at least, on the way back, the bag was much lighter and there was slightly more room for pressies ;) lol.

As for the buggy, we've always left them at the railings and so far (touch wood and all that), we've never had it nicked (or perhaps ours just looks old! lol).

DS also went on the carousel with us - try and grab the ones with seats instead of the horses (they tend to go quite quickly though), then he can sit on your lap.

No, I just chained up the pram.

If anyone had of said anything, I would have just pointed out that Disney do not take responsibility if anything is stolen so, I have taken my own precautions:thumbsup2

haha, fantastic. It's so exciting, I have no idea what it will be like at christmas i am so excited! my son it a huge peter pan addict.. he has two costumes! so he can wear one, when other is in wash....oh yes!
Do you see peter pan much..even if on parade?? gone off topic havn't i!! haha

We also took pots of food for Anya, I packed 2 more than we needed just in case. Never used formula so don't really know but great tip for the buggy - we never bothered taking a chain but may do that in Dec as we'll be taking our nice new-ish buggy. :thumbsup2

We are going in October and my son will be 13 months then too so I have similar concerns :) I'm going to switch him to cow's milk as soon as he's a year old though, so formula won't be a problem for me. I'd be concerned about what water to mix the formula powder with. Some of the mineral waters aren't suitable (too much sodium etc.) and you won't be able to boil the tap water. Are you going for long? Could your baby not have cow's milk just for the trip? I thought formula had more nutrients, not more calories, so re. his weight he'd probably be fine on moo milk and maybe some vitamin drops if you're going for a long time? Not meaning to be presumptuous though - obviously you know what's right for your child! :) Oh, and depending on what formula your baby is on, it may be sold in France too. We use Aptamil and that is known as Milupa there.

As for food, we don't do purees, we do Baby Led Weaning, and this means it will be really easy to feed my son when we get there. We just give him little bits of whatever the adults are eating (as long as it's suitable for him to eat, of course - I'm not going to shove chocolate brownies and ice-cream down him! :) ) There is loads he can eat there, especially from the buffets - pasta, rice, most veg, bread, cheese, fruit, chicken, fish... there's tons of stuff. Then you just need to get an extra plate and tear up a few bits for him to feed himself - don't need to sit and spoon the contents of a jar into him so you can just eat your meal by yourself without having to feed him! It's so much more relaxing and liberating - if you can stand the mess, that is :) Anyway, not sure if this could be an option for you? I'm also thinking he'll have teeth by then so will make chewing easier and he might be able to manage more foods by then too. So quick answer - I'm not taking any jars at all.

Buggy - we did as a previous poster did and just left it there but with no bags on - was never a problem.

It's the sleep that is bothering me - he is rubbish at sleeping and wakes, screaming, several times a night - how on Earth his big sister is supposed to sleep through that when we're all sharing a room is beyond me! [eeeek]

haha...well hopfeully baby may be sleeping through by october! otherwise...maybe your little one be so tired out from the day..that she wont wake!!

yes i agree about the water, i would not consider using it, so think i will take a few ready made cartons for a bottle or two a day...you have to stay on formula longer with low birthweight babies. so... hopefullt if i pack well wont be too many accidents! i agree, my son is 8 months and at mo just eats what we eat..and if to much i mash it up, but he eats banana etc to..but by then i am sure he will be well on his way.. i think my concern was more about the quality of food... my son and us adults will do fine on a bit of junk food, white bread etc for the holiday..its a holiday after all no point stressing... but just want to insure he is eating well!! i am sure i will find something! us mummies can be very clever at concocting meals out of anything!! hahaha

hope you have fun, i am so looking forward to it!! thanks for your message.

just remembered that the shops in the hotels sell some baby jars. I think they're Nestle brand, popular in the rest of Europe. We've never tried them so can't really tell you lots about them.

Re: cow's milk... I'm always very cautious what to give my daughters esp if they've just started a new diet (changing from breast milk/formula to cows) and never give anything I haven't tried esp on holiday. I'd rather stick with the formula and then change when you get back home. But people do things differently.

I cannot agree more about the food there... I took lots of apples and bananas with me, lots of raisins and dried fruit. Felt much better that way!

yes i agree!! haha... last thing you need is poorly tummys eating new foods! esp when little...so will try and keep things the same for him!!
am booking today..so excited!!

When we went last time we found the food to be nothing but junk food - but having read more about it I think we were just unlucky with our choices. There seems to be a whole load of healthy stuff there - especially in the buffets. There is also (at least there was 3 years ago!) a garage across the road from Sante Fe where we bought fruit and baby products.

we took our daughter for the first time at 12 months and as she was prem she was still on formula milk so we just took lots of tetra packs with us so it was really easy just to pour her milk into her bottle and for sterilising I took a plastic cereal box and used the milton cold water sterilising tablets which didn't need rinsing so it was really quick and easy. (I even packed things in the cereal box). Our little girl was used to home made food so for a few weeks before we went I introduced her to shop bought baby food and took lots of these with us. I also invested in a wide neck flask and took some fruit from the hotel breakfast buffet for her to have as a snack during the day. We found she really enjoyed the fish from Toad Hall and there were plenty of sandwich places for cheese and ham and nice baguettes and places where we could pick up fromage frais so she didn't eat all the jars I'd taken with us. The bottled water is also ok, I checked it on a baby website before we went and the sodium levels, etc are fine. I'd also recommend taking sachets of baby calpol just in case, they are far easier than a bottle and we've taken the pushchair a couple of times now and I did think about a bike chain but we've never had any problems. My hubby even left our passports, euros and camcorder hanging on our puschair outside of it's a small world but I wouldn't recommend this, part way round the ride I flipped !

::scared1: oh my god, haha you must have gone mad!! haha

yes i thought about milton... preparing with flasks etc is a good idea! and cartons too..thanks for that..good to get tips!!

mad really was an understatement, we were sat there enjoying the ride when I suddenly realised we didn't have our bag with us ... it was a nightmare but fortunately the bag was safe along with all it's contents.

It's amazing when you start packing to see how much your lo needs, I always find nappies are the biggest problem but I did see them on sale at the Cheyenne ... I think babies need their own luggage allowance ;) More recently we took a packet of weetabix with us along with other cereal just in case she suddenly developed a case of fussy eating but fortunately she was fine. Have lots of fun planning your trip xx

Hi
We took our son first time when he was 5 months old, he's now 4 and have been every year since then. We took the ready made cartons and just put then in a bottles when he was a baby. He was on some solids at this age but mainly baby rice that was just mixed with the milk. He was on jars at times so we did take our own but i did notice that you could buy jars in the shops in the hotel and also in the baby changing places allocated in both parks. We then went again when he was 17 months and the restuarnts did do baby meals where there got a bib and drink cup provided too. Personally i found it fine foodwise for my little boy each time i went. With regards to the buggy, we took our own everytime and never had any problems at all. We used to take valuables off but that was it.

Also with the rides, when he was 5 months, we took him on most of the rides in fantasyland. I think he went on more when he was 5 months than when he was 17 months because the fear of the unknown hit him at that age, but he still managed small world because he liked the idea of the boat.

Im sure you will have a lovely time. We go every year and love it.

Lisa
