I am a fireworks addict, when we are at disney I have to see either wishes or illuminations every night, I just love them. Anyways 4th of July is coming up and I really want to go to see fireworks, only this year I have a DD who will be 3 months on July 3rd. So, what do I do? Do I take her or do we skip them this year? Is there any type of hearing protection that I could use for her? has anyone else taken a young baby to a fireworks display?

Last 4th our DD was 4.5 months and was fine. She really enjoyed all the colors. However we held her just incase she became scared, however that was not the case as she was fine. She had also seen the fireworks at WDW when she was younger and enjoyed the colors then too.

I don't know if there are earplugs available. Are you planning on just watching or setting off your own fireworks. We have the luxury of being able to set off our own, so we just kept in mind which ones might be too loud and saved them for last as towards the end of the night she was sleep and sat in the car with my parents (who were also sleepy). HTH.

We took my daughter to WDW at just under 3 months and again at 3.5 months and saw the fireworks both trips and she was totally fine. She loves staring at the colors and did not seem to have any problems from the noise.

At that age, your baby should be fine with the fireworks. I have found that toddlers are the most scared of them.

I am so paranoid about hearing damage that our 3 year old has never seen a real fireworks display. I do really want to take her and her brother this year and would love to know if anyone has any data on whether it does any damage or not. Personally, I like fireworks but I HATE any loud noises. In the past I have worn earplugs. Do they make any esp. for kids?

Hi

I asked this question awhile back and another DISer suggested peltor ear defenders for kids. I was able to find some on ebay...

They come in pink and green...

Here is there offical website for more information... they are light weight ear muffs. Similar to something hunters would wear.

I bought them for my kids to use on some of the loud rides & fireworks.

These are what most guys in bands have their kids wear when they come to see Daddy play. They are supposed to be very effective, although I'm not sure how well they would fit an infant.

For those who have used the ear protecters, did your kids seem to mind wearing them? I wonder if they would arrive before the 4th if I order now.

Personally, I have found some of the rides and shows at disney to be just as loud, if not louder, than the fireworks. That is my one pet peeve against disney. I don't know why they feel the need to damage everyone's hearing, especially little ones. I am constantly covering my kids ears when we go. As for the fireworks with such a little infant, I would probably just cover their ears with my hands. She most likely won't object too much since she is so young. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with my fiesty 19 month old this year though. She definitely will not let me put anything on or in her ears.

Perhaps watching from a distance. Just a thought if you are concerned.

I cannot remember the first time my youngest saw fireworks. It was probably delayed as the oldest was frightened by the sound for a time period. (They both love fireworks).

I would take her. Just make sure you have a receiving blanket over her ears or some thing like that.

when we took my baby brother last year he was about 6 months old and he was fine with the fireworks although it probably will all depend on the child and age

I just thought I'd give you an update.

I received my ear defenders yesterday and they work quite well. You can still here people talking to you but louder noises are definately muffled. My daughter didn't mind wearing them, we made it in to a kind of game so she thinks it's fun! I'm definately glad I purchased them as some of the rides at disney are way too loud especially when the speakers are behind you.
