"Babe, I Messed My Pants..." An Oct 2013 TR - FINAL UPDATE! Added 5/24

Oh no! I read in your updates that he wasn't feeling well! That stinks you had to miss Boma! Hopefully he's feeling better?!

Yes he is. He thought it was something he ate at Garden Grill. But I ate the same and didn't get sick. I think he had a 24-hour bug which I ended up having yesterday...my first day back at the office (which has put me behind in getting my new TR started; hopefully over the weekend).

(Anyone else use an embarrassing amount of sugar packets?? Like, I end up rolling up all the empty packets into a ball and hiding it in a napkin because I don’t want them to see that I used 10 packets in my coffee. Seriously.)

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

OMG I do the same thing! Sometimes I stuff them into the little creamer packets if they have them...sometimes I actually use all of the sugar they have at the table...it's a little ridiculous. And the sad part...I use WAY less sugar than I used to.

Anyway, BOMA! YUM!!! Love that place, probably my favorite restaurant for breakfast! And AKL is definitely a favorite resort too, the Lion King soundtrack at the pool? It seriously doesn't get much better! Ahh I miss Disney so much already! :(

The same thing happened to Lumar on our 2010 trip. We all at the same thing but HE got sick. He must have touched something gross and then we had Casey's so naturally we ate with our hands and... that's all she wrote!

I DID use all the sugar that was on the table at Boma! And the server came around and was like "Oh, no one filled your sugar packets!" Ummm...yeah...that's what happened.... :rolleyes1

We were talking the other night about how we definitely want to try The Poly when the DVC rooms there are open...but basically, AKL is our official new home

Resort Day #1 - Part 2....It that makes any sense...

After our swim, we went back up to the room to change and get ready for lunch!

We had been told upon arrival that there was a shuttle that runs from Jambo House to Kidani Village so we went out to the front of the lobby and asked a CM where the shuttle would pick us up. He said it would literally pull right up to the front where we were standing, but we could easily walk to Kidani if we wanted to.

We opted to try that option and although it wasn’t far, my legs were starting to hurt by the time we got there!

Lumar ordered a mango lassi:

And I had something pina colada like. It was not frozen but it was very good!

Although I will point out that as much as I love the earth-friendly idea of paper straws… they don’t work out so well when you’re slowly enjoying your drink over the course of a TS meal in an air-conditioned restaurant, as opposed to slurping it down in 2 sips because you’re outside in the sweltering heat at AK.

Imagine a wet paper towel.

And not the nice Viva towels…or even Bounty. I’m talking about those horrible brown ones you find in public restrooms.

Sopping wet and falling apart.

That’s essentially what happened to my straw.

I gave up at some point and just started drinking from the glass.

The view from our table:

We ordered the bread service for an appetizer and got to choose three breads. We picked Naan (plain), and then one was onion, the other was garlic. I don’t remember which ones they are on the menu, but the server was very educated on what everything was and was very happy to explain everything for us in great detail, so we knew exactly what we were ordering. We couldn’t decide on the accompaniments so we ordered them all. I think there were 9 in total. I know that the Roasted Red Pepper Hummus was the clear favorite between the two of us. There was another one that was a sour cream base that I loved (but I LOVE sour cream).
It’s definitely worth it to get all 9. For like an extra $2 you get six more spreads to try and they are ALL good.

Ask me if I remembered to take a picture of the bread service :sad2:

I had the tandoori shrimp:

Lumar had the spicy Durban chicken and the beef short ribs:

Inside the restaurant:

Dessert was bread pudding:

It was really good but I think Ohana’s bread pudding or the Sticky Toffee Pudding from Rose & Crown might be a little higher on my list of preferences.

Overall, I really liked Sanaa but Lumar complained of heartburn for the rest of the day. I’m sure it was the Spicy Durban Chicken, and tried to convince him that maybe getting something else would be a better option but he doesn’t, currently, seem interested. We’ll see what happens on our future trips.

After lunch, we apparently went back to the room for a nap and then headed off to DTD around 6:30pm.

I know we did a LOT of pin trading.

And pin buying.

And I bought Christmas ornaments Namely, these:

I normally try to stick to the rule that Christmas tree ornaments have to be Christmasy. But Disney likes to torture me and make ornaments that I love that are not Christmasy. So we buy them anyway.

But the only picture I took for the rest of the night was this one:

My tuna and cheddar melt from EoS, that I had at some point that night when we decided to have dinner. I know I also had a chocolate and banana smoothie, and Lumar ate….well some other sandwich…probably The Italian. But again, I was remiss in taking pictures.

Up next: “Why is this day so annoying?!”

Your food and drinks look fantastic! I'm not a huge fan of the paper straws either.

The ornaments are all so cute! The Dumbo one is my favorite.

A chocolate and banana smoothie? THAT sounds good right now!!

The chocolate banana smoothie is the best! I wish I could have one with every meal. I mean, I could...but that would mean actually using the blender that is currently serving no purpose on top of my kitchen cabinets.... ;)

I really liked the tandoori shrimp! I was nervous about it but it was REALLY good!

So in the long run, would you recommend Saana to someone who is rather fussy?

I love the ornaments you bought. I have that Dumbo ornament on my tree (all Dumbo ornaments are hung by Mark, I hang all of the rest of them).

The menu items are not overtly exotic but a fussy eater might have a hard time choosing something just because it sounds "weird." Does that make sense? :confused3 Like, I probably wouldn't take a "chicken-strips-for-every-meal" type of kid there, but a group of adults willing to be a little adventurous could have a good time! Just bring the Tums! I didn't have any problems but the Durban Chicken was a bit much for Lumar and he REALLY likes spicy food. I've seen things on Chinese food menus that were way scarier than any of the options offered at Sanaa! :rotfl2:

Viva towels! That was an incredible reference my friend, because those are the best paper towels ever. However, I do agree with your assessment of the straw situation at AKL.

Love the HM ornament!

Mmmmm, EoS......so good.

Just came across you TR and am really enjoying it :cool1:

My bf and I just stayed at AKL in July for the first time and I am sooo in love :lovestruc We had the Arusha savannah view and it was amazing! We couldn't wait to get back and see what animals would be waiting for us! We even saw giraffes laying down one night (an animal guide told us the next day that it happens but isn't too common) and an ostrich walked over to our balcony and peed (we were on the first floor of the hotel rooms). Yep, it was the real great outdoors alright :upsidedow
Zebra domes may be the most amazing little snack EVER!! I was pleasantly impressed with Mara. We only got lunch there but it was all soo good. :duck:

CONGRATULATIONS!!! That may be the absolute sweetest proposal!!!:lovestruc:lovestruc:cloud9: How great that your server was able to capture it for you

I totally know what you mean about always being the last to know about park merchandise. I am a big vera Bradley fan but the first few disney patterns really weren't for me. Of course I love the Where's Mickey pattern and its sold out

I still have yet to try out the animation drawings at DS. This past trip I really wanted to but it seemed like everytime we were at ds the crowds were some of the absolute worst I have ever seen so we would never stay very long.

I love having resort days and AK is a great resort to lounge around at. I gave up and the straws pretty quickly but can understand and respect why they offer them like that.

Oh, I was so excited to see that you ate at Sanaa - that is very high on my list of must-try Disney restaurants! The paper straws are a much better idea than reality, aren’t they? Good for y’all for going for all 9 spreads! I bet it was really fun to try the different flavors. What a great idea!

I have never seen a review featuring the tandoori shrimp before - that looks right up my alley. YUM!

I love the ornaments you picked, especially the Nightmare ones and the cute Dumbo.

Sounds like a really fun DTD evening - anytime you don’t take a lot of pics, you are probably having a lot of fun (or dragging a child who is screaming like you are killing her out of the MK ). ;)

I ONLY buy Viva paper towels! They are more expensive but SO worth it!

I could spend a fajillion dollars in the Christmas store. I want everything. And I'm so mad because they sell a Stitch ornament where he's wearing a Santa hat and opening presents and I KNOW I bought it last year...but we put our tree up on Sunday and I can't find it! It's making me so sad! I have my Santa Cheshire Cat (that I bought at the same time!) but not my Santa Stitch!

If there was an EoS near my house I would never cook again. It would be sandwiches and chocolate bananas smoothies for forever.

I have no idea which Savannah our balcony overlooked but it was so perfectly wonderfully QUIET. Lumar agreed with me that the next time we go we're going to request that exact room again. And if we can't get, we at least want the same area.

DHS crowds can be so weird! When we were there, the first two classes that we arrived in time for were already full. So we decided to come back a third time, later in the day. When we came back there was no one there but just before we were let in, a huge rush of people came up behind us and the class was completely full. I wonder if the shows in that area are a factor? I never pay attention to the times because we don't have small kids so we don't go see them... But I bet that's it!

Thank you! I am so excited and so overwhelmed with planning this wedding! It thought I knew exactly what I wanted but now I'm changing my mind about everything!

(oops, double posted)

Well you have some nerve! :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

I really liked the tandoori shrimp a LOT. It comes served on naan so you can roll it up and eat it like a pita. Seriously, so good!

I hate it when I don't have pictures to correspond to certain parts of my trip! Especially when I didn't take very good notes, either!

Those breads and dips sound delicious and they need to strengthen their straws or at least give you lots of spare ones :rotfl2:

I love your ornaments (or as we call them baubles) I especially like the Figment one as he's one of my favourite characters :goodvibes

Sanaa looks interesting, but I'm not sure if I'm brave enough to try it! I just don't like exotic food, but everyone says Sanaa is so good! Maybe someday! :confused3

Your ornaments are so cute! I meant to buy that Haunted Mansion one, but of course, I waited too long and figured I'd just buy it online and now it's sold out! :rolleyes1

Figment is one of my favorites too! I want to meet him but I've only seen a meet and greet once and we missed it!

Those straws.... :rolleyes2. Good idea but not so great in real life :rotfl2:

I really liked Sanaa and I'm glad we went. I would definitely go back. The menu isn't as scary as it sounds and the servers will give you lots of detail.

After the disappointment of those Halloween ears, I'm never waiting to buy something again! :rotfl2:
