BA strikes over Christmas

nannyj - have you been able to find anything out about your dates, fexability etc. - fingers (and toes) crossed for you

I think you have the wrong end of the stick here. It is not me that is travelling over Xmas. I was just commiserating with 'welsh princess'. Thanks for the interest though. Happy Xmas!

I've just been watching the news and I can't get over what a smug g** the union rep was. He is ruining million of people's Christmases and doesn't think it's his fault at all. It would be a different thing if BA were doing well.

Virgin must be really pleased, laying on extra flights and bad publicity for BA! shame about the passengers though, they are the ones who suffer the most :headache:

Yes, naughty mamnagement, going out on strike over christmas to effect the most people and have the strongest effect, naughty management for trying to bring the Union into the modern world instead of living in then 70's, naughty management for trying to make the airline profitable instead of the customs and practices allowed whan it was a nationalised company and the government kept pouring millions into it so that the cabin crew could be the best paid by far within the industry, some cabin crrew earning £70,000 a year even though this is crippling them.
So bad.

Ignore the naughty :LOL

Got to agree with OBI, in my opinion the right to strike should be banned in certain occupations, it is in mine, people need to get in the modern world, get rid of ancient working practices, if the strike does go ahead then no one should book a BA flight ever again, then the workers can have as much time off as they want.

When taking into account the scores of Globespan staff who have all lost their jobs I hope BA cabin crew would think again.....at least they have a job!

I am sure plenty of Globespan Cabin Crew would be willing to take their place and (from what I understand) better pay.

Whilst I am not affected by the strike or collapse of Globespan I really feel sorry for the holiday makers affected and those staff who lost their job a week before Christmas - I do hope it will put some perspective in place to the BA crews prepaering to strike.

BA wins high court battle, strike is off for now thankfully.
New ballot to be held.
Hopefully a different result but won't hold my breath.

In my opinion turning the clock back to the days when employers and managers could do as they wished without workers rights would be a step back into the dark ages.
Whilst it is upsetting for people affected I would hardly put this into the category of occupation that should be banned from taking industrial action :confused3

We have had so much bad luck lately, first our friends pulled out of the holiday, then 2 weeks ago my FIL passed away
xxx

So sorry to hear your sad news. We lost both Dads within 10 days last Christmas.
Hope BA do a turn round, sounds like you need a holiday:hug:

Not sure when those days existed, certainly not in nationalised industries
There are other ways to go about things without effectivly holding the country to ransom. BA is our national carrier and brings millions into the country directly and indirectly
having said that maybe these boards are not the place for this discussion

Whatever the in's and out's I'm just glad it's cancelled for the mo' and that my family can have our holiday as planned .:yay::yay::yay:

I'm so pleased for you Angela and for all the other Christmas travellers who can enjoy their trips.

Does anyone have a rough idea how long a new ballot will take? Just curious how far down the line the next possible strike could be.

It is expected that a re-ballot will take over a month to organise according to various reports :)

Wow! That takes longer than I thought. Can they hold off strikes to have the most impact or do they have to do them within a certain time of the results being in?

If both sides can find solutions and compromises it may not come to other strike(s). But it will be up to the union/workers when/if they call the dates for strike action.
