B2B with a GTY

Were they VGT with restrictions? Normally those are new bookings only and you get charged the cancellation amount if you cancel. I have been able to turn OGT with Restrictions into a VGT with restrictions and pay the additional but I have not been able to turn a normal booking past PIF into a VGT with restrictions yet.
It's easy. You cancel and suffer the penalties. Sometimes even after losing your deposit, it's still a huge savings.

A 20% deposit is a lot to lose. The discount offered for the first sailing is isn't enough to justify the loss (1st cruise was booked with a placeholder)

Yes, we had to cancel the booking we had and then book the VGT. Even with the cancellation penalties, we saved around $1000.

Not everyone has a placeholder for every cruise. In your case, it wasn't worth cancelling and rebooking. For some, it is.

I ve had both:
- same stateroom: you can leave your stuff and access your stateroom at all times after reboarding
- differen stateroom: they move your stuff but you need to wait til 1.30 to access new stateroom
I always mail them seperately to point out Im on a b2b gty and would really appreciate the same stateroom for both legs

Thank you! Can I ask how far in advance you mail them? Do you just use the contact us form on the DCL website?

Update- got our GTY assignment and did not keep the same room (it was available up until rooms were assigned) but have the same room (family oceanview) one floor down. It would have been nice not to pack but not $800 nice and I am happy enough with having a family room with the murphy bed.

So I am curious who has done a B2B with a GTY (actually a VGT) for the second half?

I booked a January cruise for myself and two kiddos and then the sailing after ours offered a really good VGT discount so we decided to book as B2B. We have a family deluxe room for the first half (we were already past PIF when our 1st sailing discounted). As of right now (plenty of time for things to change) our room is still showing available on the second cruise but the savings is worth rolling the dice to our family (an $800 savings).

Has anyone been lucky enough to keep their room booked VGT on a B2B? If we get a different room how does DCL handle luggage?
Only experience I have with this is several years old - we had a WBTA booked (specific room). About 3 months out, they offered lower rates for the previous Med cruise. We booked that cruise (wasn't called *GT back then). A few weeks out from our 1st (Med) cruise we found we had been assigned the same room as we had for the TA following.

But we were prepared to have to pack up and move.

Did you email them before?

As I understand it, even if you're in the same cabin you're not supposed to be in your new cabin until they open for everyone. What I've seen is if you are in the same cabin you may be allowed in as @ruadisneyfan2 was but I've always heard that if you do that you're asked to go in prior to general boarding and remain in until cabins are open for everyone to prevent confusion with new guests thinking they can go to their cabins. At least that was my parents' experience when they did B2B in Europe - they *could* go to their same cabin, but if they did they were asked to remain there until cabins were open for all.
We've done at least 6 b2b cruises and we were never told to stay in the cabin. We always come and go without any issues. Always had the same cabin.

Yes I did and they said they would note it but no luck. Oh well. Its still a great room
They did?

This is what I got as an answer:

That looks like their standard canned AI generated email. Might be better with a phone call.

Our only B2B was in 2011 when the Dream first entered service. Maybe the rules have changed since then, or they're no longer enforcing them.

I got my cabin number for the second cruise and it’s a different one, even though the same cabin was still available. It probably depends if the person who is assigning the rooms feels like doing an extra effort or not.

And the people who have been treating the e-mails lately have not been helpful at all. Requesting a meal with dietary restrictions on an excursion went smoothly last year. For that same excursion (last years got canceled due to bad weather) it’s still not confirmed after weeks of waiting and sending several mails. I will call DCL, but feel it shouldn’t be necessary for such a simple request.
