Completely over thinking this! Myself, DH and my son(7) are wanting to go on a cruise this august. Options are oceanview alaska or oceanview b2b Bahamas. Which one would you pick? Is alaska boring for a child?

Alaska!! It is an amazing trip!

I would think a 7 year old would not be bored on any disneycruise no matter the destination.

Alaska! Has been our favorite cruise. The scenery is beautiful. The activities were special too with the iceberg brought up on deck being one of them.

Oh for me that's a very easy one -- ALASKA! I don't feel the Bahamas offers much and doesn't come close to comparing to an Alaska cruise. I think for a child Alaska would be a wonderment. Alaska has unbeatable scenery, wildlife everywhere and it so much more relaxed. If the pricing is amenable to going to Alaska instead, I'd choose that in a heartbeat.

If you plan for excursions and time off the ship Alaska is a great option, though I cannot comment for kids. I suspect that there are plenty to see and do, the yukon train ride, dog sledding, helicopters, whale watching are certainly kid friendly.

The bahamas are certainly warmer and there are many benefits to warm weather!

With my cousin's kids.... they were loaded up with so much pixie dust.... they couldn't tell you whether they were in Alaska or not.

Forget Deck 1 twins. Insist on Deck 2 as a minimum. Mid-ship Deck 2 windows are even larger. Get Port side.

@DM Minnie : Here's another thought? When are you sailing? I would say May to July is good for Alaska for dry port weather. August going into September is much wetter and would sway my vote for elsewhere.

I recommend EARLY August, but NOT the 5 day sailing. July is preferred.

Are you beach people. the BTB would offer lots of beach time. Alaska is amazing and would be my first choice, but make sure and price out excursions.

Alaska. We went on an Alaska cruise with extended family members that included children who were 6, 8, and 10 yrs old. They all loved the cruise, it was the first cruise for all of the kids, so they didn't have anything to compare it to. You can go on a Bahamas cruise anytime during the year, Alaska is more limited. We were in an ocean-view room, mid-ship deck 2 and really liked it. Plus the glaciers are only getting smaller as time goes on.

Alaska, Alaska, Alaska. I don't know your son, obviously, but to me the options in Alaska while in port are much more interesting than the Bahamas - no matter the age. And when you are on the ship, there really is no difference except it will be a little colder to swim. Our son never goes near the pools anyway, as he can't stand how they are just wall to wall kids on the warm weather cruises.

I realize all kids are different, but our son's favorite vacations have always been the outdoor adventure type - Alaska, Yellowstone, Colorado, Iceland, etc. He's a water lover as well, but can get that on other vacations or at our local pool.

My daughter is the same way -- she really doesn't like the Caribbean sailings but loved Alaska and our New England and Canada cruises.

Thank you everyone. I would have replied early but I had a big work event last night.

I'm leaning towards Alaska, We lived before in Vancouver so we are used to the weather.
