DH is registered!

Beauty and the Beast Marathon???

Let's see, if I start training now, I ought to be able to run 2 miles by next January... :D Can't wait to see the PINS though! Lumiere and Mrs. Potts in running shoes...LOL!

It would be very appropriate though, for everyone to wear yellow boas, don't you think?

So, how hard do you think it would be to train for that if you start now?

Ashley

Good question for the Disney Deads. :)

DH starts months in advance. But not this far.

From the WDW e-mail:

"1-The WALT DISNEY WORLD® Marathon is $90 and is open to participants 18 and over who are able to complete the 26.2 mile race course within 7 hours (16 minute mile pace).

2-The WALT DISNEY WORLD® Half Marathon is $70 and is open to participants 14 and over who are able to complete the 13.1 mile race course within 3 1/2 hours (16 minute mile pace).

3-From a Disney-themed 5K to the infant diaper dash, the Family Fun Run 5K and Kids Races is an event that features something for everyone."

January 2003, the fun walk/5k t-shirt was L&S. It almost made it worth getting up early for -- but not quite! ;) :jester:

how quickly does registration for the marathon fill up?

(seriously considering doing something special for herself and getting in shape for this..)

Ashley

Blaine is always over paranoid and signs up immediately.
The 1/2 fills up much faster than the full.
I *THINK* the full did not fill up until around June.
HOWEVER, for the 2003 marathon, they allowed more entrants than usual.
Blaine said many of the WDW marathoners he spoke with were upset with Disney for allowing more, and making the race larger. (Blaine has run larger marathons, so this wasn't too large for him. He had no problem with the size.)
He said that Disney has not said the number being allowed. So he is wondering if they haven't decided yet. It may be a case of going to their usual number of entrants.
Don't wait too long. But don't worry about registering NOW.

Or you can still go, and not register and spend the morning with me at MK! :bounce: I had the place to myself and plan on doing a repeat! Kris and Sharon, you up to MK race day too? :bounce:

This could be a fun idea! A unofficial MK pin meet aboard the PotC on marathon day! We can only trade/show glow in the dark and blinking pins! ;):jester:

DH and i are registered!! I am excited. I ran the 1/2 in 2002 and had a BLAST. 2004 is my goal to get my butt back in shape post baby. DH agreed to run with me (even though the furthest he has ever run is after a beer truck.....) I said if he started easing into it now--we both would be in about the same shape come January (I am praying for a quick rebound post-baby--it has been killing me that i havent run since October but luckily with 10 weeks to go I have only gained about 20 pounds so barring any delivery complications I am hoping to be back to LIGHT running in June with some serious running by September! ) I LOVE that it will be a Beauty and the Beast theme! how perfect. CANT WAIT! we already have our rooms booked at BWV for us and the grandparents (to babysit) It is TOUGH getting up at 3am for the race but well worth it in the end when you cross that finish line. Hope to see you all there!

Rumor has it that the 1/2 marathon is already 1/2 full..

Ashley

I registered my husband for the half marathon - so yearh another trip to WDW.

I hope to be able to volunteer - that will be fun.

Hope you see you all there.

Darlene

CU all there! We plan to arrive the Friday before.
Maybe they will have the pin promotion again. The Trade Parade wasn't a parade, but it was nice chatting with others in line. :)

I signed up for the Disney 1/2 marathon. I still have to talk to my doctor (it'll take about a month to get an appt. for the physical), though. As long as that comes out with his permission to speed walk it, I'll be there in January. Woo hoo!

Ashley

I hope to meet everyone who will be there in January!! :bounce:
DH mentioned tonight he has heard the Half Marathon is filling up faster than expected, but still has some room for registrations,
Anyone wnating in, should not wait past this week, the way it sounded.
Also mentioned was the full marathon is also getting more registrations than usual, but has some space.

Eldest DS is registered, so it looks like I will be there in January to cheer him on, and make sure he gets his water and "power-gel"--unless he has a girlfriend by then who will do that for him!!!

We are very excited--after a successful running career in high school and college, he suffered from depression and burn-out and thought he would never run again--waaaaay too hard to get back in shape he said. But, running the Disney marathon had always been a goal, and lo and behold, last summer he started running just a little bit again, and slowly but surely started getting back in shape. By December the thought was planted in his mind that maybe he could be ready by 2004, and by January his mileage was picking up; February clinched the deal when he had made it up to 35 miles a week, and he knew at that rate he would be able to pick up the pace to where he would need to be by next year. Now, we are back to the way it was in college! He runs in the light or in the dark, in the rain, in the snow, in the cold, in the sleet, in lightning--you name it!!! The downside, is I have to feed him a lot more!!! The up-side is--- I have such a good excuse for having to make a trip to WDW in January!!

:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Ruthie! Great! Sounds like that was the best medicine he could have hoped for!
I hope to meet you in January! :bounce:
