I am going to order it tonight before I go to bed.

My single lens order from B&H arrived within 2 hours. My Admorama order had a back order in it, so I don't have any experience.

Any thoughts?

I wouldn't mind the filter, strap and cleaning kit that is an extra $5 from Adorama, at teh same time, I need the lens for the weekend...

I'm moving up in the world and getting my first 'real' lens. A Tamaron 24-70 VC f2.8 for my Canon T4i.

Also would it be better placing it online or calling first thing in the AM? I'm thinking online, that way I don't have to worry about work concerns in the AM.

I just some searching and b&h does packing on SUndays... grrr... too bad I didn't read that yesterday.

Don't know where you are at but I'm right outside Philly. When I used the free shipping, it took 3 days from Adorama and 1 day from B&H. Both orders were placed before noon on a weekday.

Both good stores to use but B&H ships faster.

I always order in B&H. I live in Jersey so i usually get the item the next day. My last order took 3 days which is still great for free shipping or very little shipping cost.

I was wondering why you decided on that lens? 24mm on a crop is not near wide enough for Disney. Hope you got an UWA to go with it.

I chose that 24-70 for a few reasons. I have been using my 18-55 quite a bit and I find I virtually never have it at less than 23~mm, the longest zoom and still hit f/3.5.

I also wanted something with some reach as well. I may not be able to buy another lens between now and the trip either and my other two lenses are kit lenses. Not terrible but now where near what I need in terms of quality (or perceived anyway) for the trip.

I do believe I'll be able to make 24mm work for most situations. If not, something with a max of 24mm and hopefully an fstop or two lower is something I can swing.

Given my financial concerns and limited time frame, I opted for this lens. I know it is one I want and it's going to cover as much of my needs as possible at this point. I feel like it will anyway. I'm still quite new in the DSLR world.

As long as you are happy with you decision that's all that matters. I was just saying from my experiences on a 1st time trip with a DSLR last year that the 18-55 and the 55-250 was not a great. Only used the 55-250 at the AK and wished i had something wider then 18 many many times. Lower f/stop would have been useful also.

After i returned i knew what i needed and wanted going forward. Got a Sigma 17-50 2.8 OS for $600 new and a Sigma 10-20 4-5.6 for $420. I still have my 55-250 for longer stuff but it gets little to no use.

Best of luck with your purchase. Report back when you get it. Im interested to see how it pairs with the t4i; being its a smaller DSLR body and a fairly heavy lens.

I honestly have no interest in a 4-5.6 lens, especially in the 10-20 range.

You do have me rethinking now that you bring up the 17-50 sigma 2.8 with OS. I think I saw some so-so reviews on that though and coupled with my desire for more reach, ruled it out

I wonder if B&H will accept a return on the lens if it's unopened... I'm so torn. ARRRGGGGHHHHH!!!! :crazy2:

The Sigma 17-50 2.8 OS is 10 ounces lighter and exactly half the price of the Tamron.

The Tamron has amazing reviews though.

I'd consider renting a lens for the trip but I'm gone for 13 days and a two week rental isn't cheap. I don't believe they would ship to Port Orleans Riverside for 7 days either, lol.

:confused3

i just sent you an email i think (could have been a PM)

it contains my email address. Email me back and i can go more in depth about this with you.
