They've been whittling and whittling on those menus and one of my favorites got hit. Dang!
Animal Kingdom had one counter service restaurant that really had an excellent item...the shrimp po boy at Restaurantasaurus.

I wish they'd stop cutting the good stuff. Can't tell you how bummed I am...pretty soon I'm just gonna stop trying to eat at the parks and bring in my own food. Sorta defeats the purpose of being on vacation though doesn't it?

Note to Disney: Please, I beg you, Please stop taking the good stuff away. If it's the cost I'd gladly pay more for being able to get something other than chicken nuggets and warm grapes. Gag. Bring back at least ONE unique item on the counter service menus. Might I suggest the Shrimp Po boy being one of them. Please.

I feel your pain; however, have some good news for you. POFQ has a shrimp po boy on their menu. Maybe you can check that one out. Enjoy!

They do and it's pretty good :thumbsup2

But I hear the OP. There was a thread posted yesterday where Flame Tree BBQ seems to have done away with some of the side items with their meals.

Is AK having a total overhaul of all their menu's perhaps?

That really is a darned shame. I wish they'd just raised the price if that was the problem, but that might not have helped with all the DDP and FD guests. Very disappointing.

DH2B and I have just booked our ADRs and are now lying in bed at nights reading through the CS menus.... We have both noticed that the same thing is cropping up on menu after menu nowadays. Nowhere really seems to stand out as doing anything different! If I had a dollar for every "bacon double cheeseburger" I have spotted on the menus I could upgrade to the GF:lmao: Ditto the pulled pork and as for the "strawberry parfait"........:rotfl2:
The first year I bought DH2B (or DBf as he still was then;))we spotted lots of intersting things on pecos Bills menu. We never got there that time and now its all much of a muchness....sigh

This is because it is a victim of the Disney Dining Plan!

Unfortunately, many people on the DDP, whether they pay for it directly or paying a higher rate for their room and getting "free" dining, look to the highest price items on the menu. This is based either on the attitude of "I paid for it and can get whatever I want" or "as long as it's free, let's get the best items".

For example, at The Wave there is a $16.00 difference in price between the lowest price adult lunch entree and the highest price dinner entree. Each restaurant receives a fixed dollar amount credit for each meal sold under DDP. Each restaurant has to make a profit.

As food costs go up it takes more money to operate a restaurant.

So as things progress more and more of the higher end cost items will vanish.

The signature restaurants do not have so much of a problem as they get paid double the regular restaurants.

If they ever do away with the DDP within about six months you will find a lot more high end selections at all the restaurants.

Why can't each restaraunt include an entree or two that aren't available if you use the DDP?

What side items? The sides at Flame Tree have been bad for 2 years. What more can they do to make it worse? If it was the cornbread muffins and corn on the cob, well those were gone at least 2 yrs ago.

I got a cornbread muffin on the first FD trip in 2008. Don't recall any corn on the cob at all that year.

Because even if they are on the menu as:

The Following Items Are Not Allowed On The Dining Plan

there still will be guests who order them, are using DDP, and will loudly argue that they did not see the warning.

The POFQ Shrimp Poorboy is outrageously delicious and huge. It's almost worth the trip to the resort in and of itself. Be warned, it's not available and lunch AND dinner, only one, and I forget which one.

We love the ease of the dining plan, having it paid for before we leave home, etc., but I have to agree, it's presence has affected food choices and quality at WDW. I think the kids meals have suffered the most because they are basically the same everywhere and pitiful. I wish the kids could just get smaller versions of what's on the adult menu instead of those nasty chicken nuggets and sad little bag of grapes or carrots.

It's really sad that the dining plan has hit even the little hidden away gems........the po boy was at the AK restaurant in January so I was hoping they'd just leave it alone. I won't likely go out of my way to find it at another resort and my guess is they'll be eliminating it from that menu at sometime very soon anyway.

I really don't know how people justify the dining plan when they have taste buds and desire non McDonalds type foods. I really don't get it.

Lunch only. The sandwich station switches to hot meals for dinner at around 5 pm or so if I recall correctly

DisMN,
How did you find out it is gone?
EasyWDW reviewed Restaurantasaurus quite recently and showed it as an available item.

2Tiggies,
Those pictures of you and your daughter are beautiful! Did you get them done at WDW?

squirrel,
I liked the cornbread muffins and orn on the cob.

Hi Wish,
I viewed the updated menu here on the DIS. Latest update was 5/11 so pretty recent.

I really don't think a lot of those menus get updated as often as they say they do. And if there is an update it could be in price rather than the menu items. For example at CHH WDWInfo clearly shows vegetarian chili listed on the menu but there have been reports that this has been removed. I never count on the menus as fact but more of a reference.

I ordered it on May 22nd (have the receipt). It may have been removed since then. I can check probably Saturday if no one knows before then.

Oh GOSH I hope you're right! Oddly I always check the menus at a different site but checked the one here........and sad to say it's been wrong before, which is why I started checking other sites in the first place.
Maybe this will teach me! LOL

notfrostyjosh, good to hear you've had one recently! Maybe the menu listed here isn't accurate! WOO HOO!!

No offence to the Mods on this site but I always use All Ears for the menus-they do seem "up-to-dater":goodvibes

we go to Disney several times a year, and are always on the dining plan...goal is to try out all the restaurants sooner or later. We've been to majority of them now. I always check menus on allears, wdwinfo and Disney's own website and take notes on items to try. Can categorically say NONE of them are ever 100% correct, including Disney's own site which shows PDF of the "actual" menus. We use the menus as suggestions for what we might find at that restaurant, not iron-clad correct info.

And frankly, allears is wrong just as often as wdwinfo. Disney's own menus are usually up to date, but we have managed to go to a Disney restaurant the week the menu changed (most table-service places do change menus a couple of times a year at least...signature places switch things up more than regular table service.)

The thing is, both allears and wdwinfo both rely on volunteer sources delivering "current" menus...and if their sources are Disney employees, the powers-that-be on the websites are sure the info is correct. Unfortunately the sources sometimes are providing old or incomplete info...but if the source delivered that old menu in May 2011, then these websites will list the menu as "updated 5/2011" so it looks current. That situation happened month after month for about a year on allears.net in regard to 'Ohana menu...they used to have cheesy potatoes as a side dish...the new chef came in and put noodles on the menu instead of the potatoes...but a Disney dining employee was supposedly giving allears a "current" menu every month, so every month allears showed the 'Ohana menu as updated that same month and the potatoes were listed as the side dish...it was actually the old menu.

Every month, there would be a flurry of new threads on the Disboards of people excited to see the "new" menu update showing the beloved potatoes "were back" on the 'Ohana menu...when what really was happening was, no potatoes, still the noodles, just an old menu being listed as Updated every month. Didn't make any difference how many times people reported eating at 'Ohana and no-potatoes-on-menu...allears continued to report the potatoes were on the menu because the source of the "current" menu was a Disney Dining employee. It took almost a year for allears to finally correct the 'Ohana menu...so bottom line, the websites' info is only as good as their sources.:rolleyes1
