Awkward Spa Question

Right, so our trip this December, we'll be there 6 days, 7 nights and have 5 day park hopper tickets, so we're going to take a day to just chill.

I'd suggested taking advantage of the spas on property, but my husband has a...concern. He'd love to get a proper massage, but he's got a full back tattoo that features...*ahem*...full frontal male nudity. It's not salacious, but it's still an anatomically correct nude tattoo.

Is there any way in which this might become an issue? i.e. being refused service, the massage person refusing to work on the back in question, etc?

Hmmmm... I mean I wouldn't personally be offended, refuse to work, etc. but I am sure someone, somewhere would. Not sure how Disney would handle that. Would it be possible to call the spa you are booking at directly and ask? Or request for a masseuse that would not have an issue? I know it's awkward but this way at least you know before you go that he will not be put in an uncomfortable position and can just go enjoy the massage worry-free.

I see how that could potentially be awkward, especially if the masseuse isn't expecting it. I'd expect that most would be fine with it (people who work on stranger's bodies every day aren't likely to be super sensitive to accurate anatomy), but you might call the spa and give them a heads up so that they know ahead of time. Then if there is someone who works there are would find it uncomfortable, the spa could assign someone else. I'd expect (at most) a mild giggle as a response, but I get wanting to be sure your husband won't run into an unexpected reaction. I'm guessing that many masseuses have seen tattoos they find offensive (as in, a political or social statement that they disagree with, not just an unconventional artistic choice) and I don't expect they would refuse the customer based on an expression that would typically be private. But what do I know.

i have a questionable tattoo in a questionable place. DH said he's even seen one masseuse get the attention of the other to 'share'. Was somewhat annoying but I put it there, so i take the good with the bad. LOL.

My, er, biggest concern would be how does the one on the back compare to the one on the front. If I compared unfavorably to the art, I'd not have the massage done.

It's literally his entire back, from just above his waist to just below his neck, so I'm not sure that'd work. (The tattoo I mean not the....concerning part of it)

The masseuse should be a professional and be able to handle a tattoo, even one they find offensive; much like a doctor or any other person in a profession where they are exposed to people's bodies. The only reason a masseuse should flip out is if he said and/or did something inappropriate during the massage. He may want to warn the masseuse prior to starting the massage that he has the tattoo so they are aware of it but I wouldn't go through the hassle of calling ahead, personally.

I would imagine this falls under an it depends situation. Yeah there are some tattoos of private parts that I think I would be very uncomfortable with and would not feel like I could fully give service to the individual if giving a massage.
I imagine that is not the type your DH has based on your description but if anything I imagine they would ask him to put his shirt back on and they would do the massage over the clothes.

Without getting TOO far into discussion that isn't really appropriate for this board, before we met he was very into the BDSM community and it resulted in a couple of tats, including this one of an anatomically correct male angel with it's hands manacled

I've discussed super adult topics between close girlfriends at the Mandarin Spa before - we were cracking up. The staff didn't bat an eye. We definitely lowered our voices so we wouldn't offend when some other patrons came in. We were both in new relationships - we had juicy info to share. I think they'd be great and their services are excellent.

I got my first, second and third at 35 People are always surprised I have them. One is very obvious (and also amazingly easy to cover professionally) and it's like its not even there. I have no idea what this says about me.
