I found an awesome cane for travelling!!

http://www.hugoanywhere.com/comersus/store/comersus_listCategoriesAndProducts.asp?idCategory=28

I am using it for everday, but for people who might need that extra support for disney but want to try to go without a wheelchair/ecv (or need the extra oomph to get out of the wheelchair/ecv) this is great. it can support up to 550 lbs, but it is light weight. it folds small enough to fit at the bottom of a backpack or larger purse. Below is a review of it I wrote for another website. It is $12 at sams club, or $30 on their website. so it is a low-cost way to give a cane a try. plus, it infolds itself!!

Review:
I put off getting a cane for a long time, and when I finally got one, I went with the Hugo Folding Cane. This is amazing, and I have only had it for a couple days. It comes with a well-shaped handle, is adjustable for people from 5’ to over 6’, and comes in several colors (I know of black, a silver/graphite/purple, and bronze).

Here is the best part: it is a folding cane that unfolds itself! There is an elastic that runs down the middle, and when you take the binding strap off (comes with the cane) that keeps it folded, it literally unfolds itself, and fits the segments together with no work from you! You just pull the pieces apart again (no twisting of pieces) and put the strap on and it will fit easily in a backpack, larger purse, or even the seat-pocket of an airplane.

On their website www.hugoanywhere.com, you can purchase the cane, as well as replacement heads. You can get fancy heads for going out, or super soft one for delicate hands. On their website a new head is $7. The cane with carrying pouch (which has a loop on the back so it will hook to the side of walkers), is $30. However, I bought it at Sam’s Club for $12.00. It was a great investment, and great for those of us with weak or painful hands!

Note: apparently you can get it on amazon.com too!

Thanks for the review. I'd been considering getting a folding cane for Mom, she uses a wheelchair in the parks, but still uses a cane to use the restrooms or ride loading/unloading, and her regular cane is kind of "in the way." I ordered one from Amazon, as it would take more gas $ to go to and from Sam's, than to pay the $4 more from Amazon. I added a couple books to the order to get free shipping :)

i like the interchangeable heads, beucase i can "dress it up" or get a comfort grip one (which i am planning on)

I've had one of these for a couple of years now and I love it! Its great for arthritic hands, and wears very well. I highly recommend them.

BTW, anybody know where I can get one of the canes with the seat attached? I'm going to Italy for the summer and could really use one!

My mom has a fold up cane as well for WDW. She doesn't use it 24/7, however, she has it in case she needs it. She keeps it in her purse.

That cane looks really nice! I need a replacement for mine soon, as the screw-tightening mechanism is beginning to go. I'd love to get one of those, but I can't find them anywhere in this country :confused3. It looks like I might be able to get it shipped through Amazon.com, though.
Thanks K!

EDIT: I've just looked again, and it seems I can't get it shipped over here :headache: .

Amazon UK carries folding canes, but they are a different manufacturer:

Thank you Chuck! It may work out cheaper just to buy another hiking cane, which gives me the added advantage of shock-absorbers, but I will look into those canes, as I think they'd pack up smaller.

Thanks :thumbsup2 !

Thanks so much, Sue! Just found out that part of my curriculum will be doing walking tours, 4 or more hours on cobblestone streets, 2 days a week! Yikes!

ok, after a weekend with my cane, i can easily say it was the greatest purchase for me. it didnt really help me do more (sadly, i do not have the kind of problems that a cane would help me). however, it helped with balance, so i was not afraid to walk on stairs as much...

i highly recommend this cane to anyone who is looking to purchase one!
