So...I was all excited for the past 2 weeks because my parents booked us a trip to Disney (our 3rd one in that last year!) for May.

Now just randomly in band I started thinking about it...My parents ended up booking the trip the EXACT week of my spring band concert and trip to Dorney! Now, I hate band to be honest and would MUCH rather go to Disney than Dorney but I can't miss my concert because I'll fail for the rest of the year!

My parents are on a cruise right now and I'm really scared to tell them. What do I say; "Hey, we can't go on our trip! Cancel EVERYTHING!". They already booked our resort, rental car, airfare, etc. I'm so sad :(

Hmm... That's wierd. I also happen to have a spring band concert and trip to dorney, but they're not back to back.

Dorney-May 16th? Cause you're from Jersey too lol.

I'd go to Disney ;)

I want to, like so bad! I could care less about band. But our teacher sends out a thing at the beginning of the year telling us not to book anything the week of the concert. My parents didn't realize it. And if I miss the concert, I could potentially fail.

First: Thats totally wrong if you fail because you have a family trip

Second: Your Parents Would Understand

Third: If you would fail... WHO CARES!?! Thats coming from someone that has has two B's in three years. ITS BAND! NOT LIKE ADVANCED ALGEBRA!

OOH OOH OOH I'LL GO TAKE MEEEEEEEEE! =D

and it sounds like you got yourself in a sticky situation there. Does band really count as a subject grade, like science? If not, you don't have too much to worry about. If so...

Maybe you could ask the teacher for an exception? Idunno. You honestly forgot. You're a human. Humans make mistakes.

I hope your teacher understands that. Good luck!

I don't think you need to cancel your trip... just talk to your band director. Explain that your parents planned it, and you had no control over it. My director usually offers a make up project in a situation like that.

The concert is like our big test for the marking period. If you miss it, your grade goes DOWN big time.

I know they will, it just sucks because I was the one who brought up the idea to go back to Disney.

I don't want to fail a class that's so easy...Do you get what I mean?

The big deal about failing a class, is you usually have to retake it.
If it's an entire semester, or full year class, you won't be able to accomplish a lot the next year, because you'll have that class you'll have to redo.
That's the way it is here anyways.

Hahaha.
Yeah, you either take band/choir/or cycles. I take band and the concert averages out as a grade for the 4th and 2nd marking period. (Winter and Spring). And in between you take like...scales tests and stuff.

It's not my fault, haha. My parents and I both forgot about it. Which sucks, because I'd rather go to Disney!

Thanks for the good luck :)!

I'm worried to tell my parents and band director. Because he strictly tells us that if it's planned 5 months in advance then he'll make an exception. My parents booked it 2 weeks ago. What kind of project does yours do?

I'm not exactly sure, as it's never happened to me. But my friends have usually had to setup/cleanup for concerts, make programs, organize uniforms, etc.

Tell your parents to talk to the band director. There's no way you can cancel the trip, you'll lose all that money!

Actually my concert is may 8th and dorney isn't until June.

Oh okay. Hmmm, I wonder if he'd be able to do that.

That's why I feel bad telling my parents! It was our mistake. We were more focused on making sure the trip wasn't the week of state testing; not about the band concert. It wasn't as important.

Oh okay, nevermind then! Haha.
