I called this morning to add on to the 'day by day' reservation I was told I should make for this Christmas at AKV and was told my second day was sold out by noon. I couldn't call earlier as I had a meeting this morning, as soon as I got out of the meeting I ran to my office and got on the 20 minute hold. I know waitlist can work, but I'm doubtful for Christmas.

I also am comforted by the fact that it won't be like this forever for my home resort or I'd be frustrated beyond belief. I know when the new village is built it won't be this bad, but having jsut returned from a long trip and being out of vacation time this year, going while the office is closed at Christmas is our only chance to use those developer's points! Sigh.

If Kidani construction remains ahead of schedule, we've heard rumors that some rooms may open in 2008 -- so perhaps by Christmas they'll be some available! :thumbsup2 Just pray for a quiet hurricane season.... :rolleyes1

Oh, that would help!

Thanks, I waitlisted the 2nd day and tomorrow I have no meeting in the a.m. to hold up calling as soon as they open, so fingers crossed!

What type and size of room are you calling for? It would be helpful to others to know.

If it's concierge, I'm not surprised. If it's anything else - even value, I am surprised. Seems odd to me that AKV would be totally sold out of anything besides a concierge category by noon of the first day the window is open, even if it is for a day newteen Christmas and New Year's Day.

Do get on the waitlist - there's lots of time for it to work out for you. Good luck!

P.S. How are you using developer's points to make the reservation? I didn't think those could be used during the home resort booking window.

Oh, sorry - my first night reserved is a studio savannah view. I'd be willing to do any view/value of a studio, really. I asked her to check anything open just to be sure and she said everything at the resort was booked for that night already. So I got on the waitlist for the studio/Savannah View for my 2nd night and we'll see what happens tomorrow.

I forgot - that 7 month window on the developer's points, even when I called our guide on Monday about booking, etc. he told me I could book anything A.S.A.P. and to just tell them I was using my developer's points. I knew they expired in a year and couldn't be banked, etc. but not about the 7 month thing. Then, when I called, the woman at Member Services was the one to tell me about the window, but said that I could book it with my regular points and then try at 7 months to convert them to my developer's points IF the room was otherwise still available at the 7 month window. All of the nights may not be but it's really my only shot to try and utilize them. So that's my plan, anyway.

Please remember (this is how it was explained to me) that when you call back at the 7 month window to use your developer points, your reservation gets cancelled and they start all over. Your rooms now go up to anyone on the waiting list. If and only if there is no one on the waiting list wanting those rooms will they then be "available for you" to book and use your developer points toward.

I've read of a few people who have gotten someone from MS to just put those points toward their reservation, but that seems to be few and far between.

Yes, I finally got the whole thing sorted out and it does make sense - I just have to give it a shot because I just don't have any other time to try and utilize them! If not, we'll still go and just use our regular points.

Last night I talked to my parents and we figured if I can't get a new reservation with the developer points at 7 months, I'll see if I get anything at all for a Nov. long weekend at any resort and offer a getaway for my parents - they're thinking of buying DVC as well so I'd love for them to get a chance to see it rather than let the points go to waste!

Excellent idea. Also, take into consideration, if you're not picky where you stay you will probably be able to book at SSR at 7 months out and use your developer points there.
