Avoiding the monorail

I need some advice. Our family is planning a WDW August vacation. We are considering the Polynesian, since we have never stayed there. I don't mind traveling via the monorail but avoid it because I can be claustrophobic and would not want to get stuck in it for an extended period of time. Is there any other way to get to Epcot from the Polynesian without using the monorail? Could I travel to MK via boat and get a bus from there or any of the other monorail hotels? I plan on taking the boat to the MK when we have our MK days.

There are park buses from all resorts. The monorail is a great feature for those who use it, but you don't have to use it.

Re: claustophobia... I would build in a budget for cab fare (speaking from experience.... ). The buses at park closing can be BEYOND crowded and they will cram them full, full, full. So you may want to opt for a cab ride if you will be leaving the parks at the end of the day at park closing.

This is incorrect. Except for special circumstances, there is not a bus from the Poly to Epcot.

You could take a bus to DHS and then transfer to Epcot, but it's going to take a lot longer.

I assume "out of order" isn't a special occasion. This thing is so unreliable I would never risk my vacation staying at a monorail resort without a car

Thanks for the advice. I know the chances aren't high that the monorail would get stuck for a long period of time but I know it has happened and it wouldn't be something I would ever like to experience. Perhaps I can take the bus to DHS and then take the small boat over to epcot or take a taxi. Thanks again.

PS-I remember a post, I believe it was last summer where the people were stuck in the monorail for a few hours and the fire dept had to get them out. My palms started to sweat when I read that thread, especially because they are usually jammed packed to begin with.

I'm not sure if this would save any time, but you could also take the boat to MK and transfer to BC or BW resort bus. From there, its just a short walk to International Gateway.

I'm not positive, but there also might be a bus from TTC to Epcot. I'm sure someone confirm if that exists or not. If there is, TTC is a short walk from Poly.

ETA - I'm not sure if this is still in operation, but from this site, it sounds like there was a MK to Epcot bus last year.

No, there is no bus to Epcot from either TTC or MK.
