Avoiding the Chaos

I'm actually trying to plan a trip for the first week of June. That way I can hopefully avoid the opening of toy story land. I would prefer less crowds to this new land. Does this seem reasonable or will it be just as chaotic? I haven't been to the parks in about three years so I haven't seen have the crowds have been. Thanks in advance!

This is just a guess, but I don't think a great deal of people will plan their trip around the opening of this new land. Some might, but I don't think the crowds will be very much different before and after the opening. Now Star Wars Land will be another story...

I think it will be crowded. Look at Pandora. Plenty of people didn’t see the movie (or like the movie), and they still flocked to the new land (us included).

I would think there are more Toy Story fans out there than Avatar fans. The movie came out in 1995. Those adults who were kids then will be excited to bring their kids to see it.

Unless I'm wrong (and I may well be) no opening date has been announced yet for Toy Story. So if you plan for June, it's possible you'll be smack in the middle of opening week.

We are in the same boat but going the 2nd week of June. I am selfishly hoping it isn’t open yet but am afraid that isn’t likely. Our main goal is Star Wars things since we haven’t seen a lot of the new stuff and I’m hoping the new land doesn’t bring a lot of people to the rest of the park.

We were there for the opening of Pandora and the craziest place was AK. And really, everyone was just standing in line to get to Pandora so we walked on all other rides. All other parks were busy but fine.

If they're opening in the summer, they will likely try for opening right around Memorial Day.

That said, there's no way to tell for sure when it will be yet.

If I had to guess, I'd agree that's what they may be shooting for.

Maybe I'm against the trend, but I'm very much hoping that's true. Our last trip with our AP is the final two weeks of June. I really want to see it, I don't care how crowded it will be.

We are purposely planning on a trip for the opening of Toy Story Land. I have two sons who grew up with Toy Story and can't wait to take them and I remember seeing the movie in the theater with all of my friends and their parents because they wanted to see it too! We're getting APs in Feb....just patiently waiting on the official dates to hopefully book at Pop

My family will be there for the 1st 2 weeks in June and every estimate on crowds for Hollywood Studios on the weekend is pretty bad, a lot of people it seems will be in the park for that weekend. I am thinking it is all Star Wars stuff but you just don't know. With the closing of The Great Movie Ride and the construction they are catching a lot of heat for Hollywood being just a half day park now ( we do 2 full days there every vacation)

Star Wars won't be open next summer.

It's very much opinion on whether HS is a half day park. MK is a half day park if nothing it has interests you. If you like shows and like Star Wars, HS is still a full day park. Plenty to do there.

I don't expect Star Wars to be open but there have been persistent rumors that Toy Story might have a soft opening around that time which would keep people more happy and more likely to spend the day there

Of course the new land will be popular. I just don't think that it will bring much heavier crowds to the resort as a whole. The advantage is that any new land draws people away from all other parks and lands, so that you get shorter waits there (as noted above). You can just fast pass the new attractions, and spend the rest of your time doing other rides with a shorter wait.

I would bet money that they'll have Toy Story Land open by Memorial Day weekend. Even though it's not technically summer per the calendar, that's pretty much when "summer" season starts for the travel industry and most families.

It'll be plenty busy regardless of Toy Story Land. When the new land does open it will impact DHS more than the other parks, but all will be busy in June. I agree that when the Star Wars stuff is ready to roll it could be insane. :earsboy:

We went the first week of June last year and it wasn't too bad - never waited more than 20 minutes (didn't do coasters though, kids are too young). I never felt like the crowds were crazy. We're going the same timeframe next year.

I think it will be busy the whole summer after it opens. There isn't much to do in DHS so having 2 new attractions will draw in the crowds.

I'm one of the folks who is planning on being there opening day just to say I've been at Disney for the opening of 3 new lands - New Fantasyland, Pandora and Toy Story Land. I also want to go on opening day of Galaxy's Edge. LOL

We are going the 1st 2 weeks in June and no matter what the crowds I will be there with my new grandson who turns 1 while on vacation.

Last I hear on the DIS was they were shooting for Toy Story land to soft open in July, so if that's true, I would expect some delays. I can't say how busy it would be in early June, however if you go and Toy Story is open, it will most certainly be more busy than you'd expect. New lands will bring a great deal of people out and Toy Story is very very popular. Sounds like Toy Story isn't your thing so if it is open, the majority of the crowds will be there and not scattered amongst the rest of the park. We were at AK in August and 75% of the guests were in Pandora and the rest of AK was fairly low to normal crowds.
