Avoiding guest pickup at DHS

We’re off-site people. We generally have someone else in our party drop us off and pick us up from parks so that they can use the car and not be trapped at the hotel while we’re at the parks. Last year, our experience at DHS after fantasmic and the fireworks was a nightmare. The pickup line was so backed up that it took almost an hour for our family members to drive their way through to get us. We would very much like to avoid that this year. I thought about walking to Epcot and getting picked up there instead, but as it will be after 9 the park will be closed, so we’d be stuck at the international gateway. Is it possible to walk partway, to the boardwalk or one of the resorts, and get picked up from there? We don’t mind the walk at all.

Thanks for the help!

Yes. Even walking to the Swan/Dolphin would be fine.

You might even have better luck with Swam/Dolphin as if it is a busy day they may restrict who can enter to the Boardwalk and I think that would be a shorter walk.

They couldn't pick you up at the IG anyway. But if it's not long after 9, the DHS>Epcot bus might still be running and they four apparently more easily pick you up there. Or take the bus to DS.

A couple of thoughts. Construction last year made all transportation at DHS a mess, it should be getting better as the massive construction projects wrap up.

I would not try going to BW or YC/BC as somebody just getting in the lot might get turned away with the new parking changes. Swan or Dolphin doesn't, yet, have that issue. So they might be a better choice for now. Disney Springs is another good option, but you are dealing with bus transportation vs either boat or walking to S/D, the waking means you don't have to wait for anyone just walk at your own pace.
