avoiding corkage fee

Soda is actually free for Disney per their agreement with Coke.

Makes sense to me. The advertising value of having the coke logo plastered on the drink machines probably exceeds the value of the boxes of a syrup. If anything Disney could plaster a few more Coke logos around the park and charge Coke for the privilege.

Same thing for wine. Disney had a pretty sweet deal with Mondavi at California Adventure. I think the Mondavi were taking a loss on pouring their wines there and gave up. Probably the wrong demographic at the parks.

Overall the wine prices (by the glass and bottle) were very reasonable-less than a comparable bottle at restaurants at home. We would get a bottle and then enjoyed it over the next two nights...your server will bring it to the next dinning room for you (or you can have room service bring it to your room for you).

On our first cruise we carried wine on and ended up buying it in the dinning room anyway because they had such a nice selection (we didn't do the package), so we had unopened wine at the end of the cruise.

We have carried wine from the CL to the dinning room if we had not finished our glass and nobody has said anything to us, so I assume if you carry it from your room they wouldn't say anything either.

I wish I could make a bottle last more than one or two nights, that's incredible!

You can find them in the "In Room Gifts and Shopping" section on your reservation home page. There are 2 packages one Premium and one Classic. The wines are listed so you can see if there are any you like in the packages. Price depends on the length of the cruise. Not a bad deal for a bottle every night, probably cheaper than buying by the glass.

This is my worry about abusing the rules, things get shut down.

You can wait til you are onboard to order the wine package. We usually order the package the first night so our assistant server gets the credit for it.

Not by the night. They have 3 - 4 & 7 bottle packages, but you can buy any size package on any length cruise. If you get a 7 bottle package on a 3 or 4 night cruise and have any left over you can get it on your last night & take it off the ship with you. It will count toward your liquor limit for customs.

DH & I ordered a 7 bottle package on our last 7 night cruise & got 2 bottles (1 red - him, 1 white - me) the first night and each drank half of our bottle. They took our left overs to the next night. On night 3 we ordered 2 more bottles, same mix. That took care of nights 3 & 4. Night 5 we ordered same mix, but used that for nights 5 & 7. Night six was my 60th Birthday & Thanksgiving, so we got Asti Spumanti to celebrate with our tablemates & the couple at the next table.

If you don't drink that much wine, you could order a 3 or 4 bottle package for a 7 night & just do a 1/2 bottle a night. Packages are just cheaper than buying separate bottles each night. If you are big wine drinkers, or a larger group of adults, you could even order 2 or more 7 bottle wine packages for a 7 night or even shorter cruise.

Ohhhh I thought you HAD to order the wine package for the entire length of the cruise. Good to know! :thumbsup2

However, we are doing a back 2 back at the end of the month (3 night followed by a 4 night). I wonder if we had a bottle leftover from the 3 night if they would keep it so we could finish it on the 4 night?

Are you allowed to choose the same wine every night? I LOVE Fairytale Cuvee. :goodvibes

You can order whatever you want from your wine package. If you like the same one every night, I don't see why that would be a problem.

Don't know how the Back to Back would work. Never done one.

They are just done in packages so that the bigger package has the bigger discount. I guess you could order one package regular & one premium, too.

Took a cab from port cab driver no meter 20bucks :thumbsup2
beringer white zinfandel 35 a bottle on board
liquor store 1 mile away 6 bucks a bottle
beringer white zinfandel 6 bottles 36 dollars total $56:thumbsup2

If you have a bottle left over and they will not keep it for you just take it with you and bring back on board and drink in your stateroom.

I also heard there was some sort of significant falling-out within the Mondavi family leading to a change in leadership and a refocusing on how they do their respective businesses. I want to say that at least one of the Mondavi businesses then sold out to one of the major wine or alcohol conglomerates (Seagram's, maybe?) and has a different business model now.

We have always brought wine on board to enjoy in the room and the wine package at dinner...that fun part of the cruise sitting on your veranda, watching the sun set over the warm Caribbean Sea with your spouse enjoying a glass of wine before the show starts is good stuff...especially since the sound proof door can shut & you can't hear the tween kids arguing in the room while they are getting ready !

We just got off the Magic yesterday... We are not huge drinkers, but did bring a couple bottles of wine. We took one to our dining room one night with a corkscrew and opened it ourselves; our assistant server brought wine glasses and kept our bottle on ice. We finished the bottle during the meal. (We didn't even crack open the other bottle!)

We were never charged a corkage fee... Incidentally, we did the same exact thing when we cruised Royal Caribbean last year. We had a meal at Chops and we brought our own wine.

In both cases, we tipped the Assistant Server a bit extra for taking care of us.

I have absolutely ZERO problem tipping the person who does the work - but to me, a "corkage fee" would not necessarily go to the server... JMHO

Reviving an old thread with a new question....

Do they still charge you a corking fee even if you finish the bottle in one night?

For example: I bring a bottle to the MDR. I open it, we drink the whole bottle, no need to cork it or put it away. Do we still get charged the $20 corking fee?

Thanks!

:thumbsup2

Corking fee is for opening a bottle. So yes they charge you if you drink ur own wine in the MDR.

DCL rules say you can't bring your own booze into public areas The MDRs are public areas the abuse is that some bring it in and servers do not know if it was purchased at a bar or not.

It's actually a corkage fee, not a corking fee. The good news is that if you don't finish off that bottle of wine one night, you don't have to pay another $20 the next night--the corkage fee is per bottle.

You won't get flamed by other wine drinkers, because they all do it, and if they say they don't, they're not being honest.

I rarely drink wine, but my friends do, and since DCL has allowed people to bring their own wine/alcohol onboard forever, while turning a blind eye to their request for people to enjoy it in their staterooms only, then I don't see a problem.

I am a wine drinker and no I don't take my glass outside of my room and no I am not a liar.

Sadly, that's a trait that seems to be disappearing.

Sadly you are right. Disney wants everyone to have a good experience on vacation so they don't confront people who aren't following the rules without consideration for the others who are being affected by what someone else is getting away with.
