I thought my DD4 was going to die during the Bug's Life 4D experience at AK. Oh my, that was awful. It was completely dark and then this gigantic spider shows up on screen...then the bug spray comes shooting out of the ceiling so you can't see anything around you. She was a gigantic mess. It was so dark I couldn't see to take her out of the theatre.

If you have a child who is a bit skitterish...I would avoid this at all costs. Cute for adults. But there were a ton of screaming kids and a few mad parents that there wasn't a warning on this ride.

Just our experience. However, this is the child that went on the kid's rollercoaster 23 times, :confused3

I have heard that before. Someone warned me that it was a little dark and kinda scary for kids. I was going to keep my 2 year old out of there, but now I think I'll skip it with my almost 5 year too. LOL!

This was oddly the only thing that DD was afraid of in all of the rides at WDW or Disneyland. DH had to take her out she was so afraid.

So sorry for your little girl. Don't they have the floor lights anymore? When we did it, there were floor lights to let you find your way to the exit doors. a few parents had to exit stage left during the show.

Ironically my kids LOVED this but I am the one who was a little freaked out. :rotfl2: Go figure. The part I hated was when I got poked in the back with that spike thing. (i guess it comes out of the back of your seat?!) Ok..that hurt! Oddly though only my 11yr old dd got the spike in the back too..not dh or the other kids. :confused3

I can see how some little ones would not like it at all though.

I'm sure that this one is one of those that kids either hate or love. DD6 really liked it. She thought that it was so funny. I kept DD2 on my lap, so she didn't get the "full effect" if you know what I mean. She was fine. I'm not sure that she kept the glasses on, either at that age. I don't think that she kept the glasses on at any 3D show, including Philharmagic!

BTW, DD6 freaked out on Great Movie Ride. It just seems difficult to guess.

When we went to Disneyland my dd who was 6 at the time, freaked out in Honey I Shrunk the Audience so we had to leave. We skipped Bug's life because we had heard that it freaks kids out. When we go to WDW my dd's will be almost 11 and 7 1/2. Not sure if we will try it again or not. I don't know if I want to see the bug one, I would like to see Honey I shrunk the audience though.

My DD was terrified when we did this last March! I had no idea it was that scary for a small child. I had claw marks on my neck when I got outside from her clinching her hands around my neck as she was shaking and crying. I felt like a terrible mommy. We were in the center of the isle and I couldn't see to get out either so we had no choice but to sit through it. We'll be skipping it on our trip this year. :scared1:

I learned this lesson on our last trip when ds was 5. He refused to go into any theatre the rest of the trip.

My DS9 still won't go back to this attraction.

He freaked out during the last 3 minutes of it when he was 6yo.
He made me take him out then & has refused to go back to it.

Another ride that scares children is Stich. When we were there this year, a mom was telling her two preschool boys it was not scary at all. i knew better and told her so. I got a mean look and they went in. Kids totaly lost it. She somehow got them out from the restraint and tried to get out the door but could not so they were standing up in the back screaming the whole time. Not fun.

Also seen kids loose it in the little mermaid show, enchanted tiki room, and even on pooh so it is hard to tell. SO important to do your homework and then you will at least have an idea.

That's so funny! The same darn thing happened to us when we saw this show for the first time. The kid loved it, I freaked out. With me was my mother, husband and 3 kids and I was the only one that got the darn thing poked in my back. It actually hurt! I screamed. I about crapped my pants!:lmao: Scared me to death. I hate bugs and I don't like nasty smells. I have no idea why I went in there but I know I won't go back.

I completely agree to do your homework before going. Hubby and I actually had gone on the Bug ride seven years ago, before kids. I do not remember the bug spray part. I knew about the little bugs "leaving" and about the stink smell, but don't remember the spray. That is what sent her in a panic. We were also in the middle of the row and I didn't know how to get out. Just held her in my lap with her head buried. Ah...as someone said...felt like a terrible mommy!

The number of terrified children in that attraction is amazing. All my kids, ranging in age from 2-11 on the last trip -hated Bug's Life, absolutely hated it. It's the one thing (besides Haunted Mansion) that they talk about never wanting to do again. I guess my kids don't like scary/suprise type things. I like it though and so did dh.:confused3

Well, kids must be warped ot something because all 4 of them have always liked it. We took them the first time when my children were 4,2, and 1. I knew from going to it on an earlier trip that year with my DH that the bugs exit firs so we did forewarn them about that because it scare d me 1/2 to death the first time. Last year we went on "honey I shrunk the ausience" and the only part that my youngest whoe was 2 turning 3 on the trip didn't like was the snake trying to bite the audience. We just told him to say "bad snake" and it would go away. Actually, after he started saying that so did a couple of other ones that had been crying, LOL. Personally, NONE of us that could ride the Stitch ride liked it. It was creepy and that burp was just vulgar. There were no tears from the kids- the youngest riding being 4 at the time- but they all heartily agreed that ride was not for the Slack family when we exited.:rotfl:

I had read all the warnings before our first trip and had Disney-experienced friends who advised me not to do ITTBAB. So, we arrive at Animal Kingdom, just so happy to finally be in Disney World, and one of the first things we see is the Tree of Life and the entrance to bug movie.I thought "How bad can it really be? It's Disney." A couple minutes in and all I could hear was my daughter, who was 5 at the time, screaming from a few rows up. She was sitting with my parents and it was too dark to find their way out. I don't remember any of the movie because all I could think of was how terrified my daughter sounded. What a way for me to welcome the kids to Disney!!! My other kids were less than thrilled with the movie as well and NOBODY ever wants to go back to see it again. Forget about Haunted Mansion...I don't think I'll ever get them in there!

LOL, my kids like Bugs Life movie (DD10, DS7, DD6). We told them about the special effects in advance. DD6 still sits on my lap though, lol (and I sit on the front of the seat to avoid some of the effects :rolleyes1 )

Before the movie starts the recording does state something about young children being afraid of the dark and special effects.

We've never tried Stitch due to it's reputation and the inability to exit due to the restraints. DS7 tried Honey I Shrunk the Audience for the first time and liked it, DD6 wasn't so daring.

My bug-loving 5yo DS hated Bug's Life on our trip last month, too. He loved Space Mountain, Rock n Roller Coaster, so many other dark rides, but did NOT like this one.

He didn't like the snake in Honey I Shrunk the Audience either.

My rough and tough 7 year old son had a total meltdown during this show. It is quite amazing for adults and older kids.

My dd11 got freaked out in this show, and she had seen it before when she was 9! Go figure...
