Avoid McAfee.com vent

back on 11/11, I tried to purchase and download VirusScan from McAfee.com. The downlaod screen went away as I tried to print instructions--after much searching on the web page, I found a telephone number, and called. Person answering said they couldn't find any record that I had purchased anything. I asked her to cancel the transaction, and she replied "there is no transaction to cancel." Today, I received my credit card statement and there was a charge from McAfee. After calling the number (not toll free I might add), I was told I was not entitled to a refund, because I had purchased the program more than 30 days prior. No amount of arguing could persuade them to credit my account--even though I never successfully installed the program, never used it, and still can't use it--they say they have no record that I ever called. I will dispute this with my credit card company, but I wanted to warn as many people as possible. This company will rip you off!!

You're not alone. I've known of others who were completely disillusioned with McAfee, on both the technical and business sides. I've used NORTON for years and swear by it.........especially the recent versions which automatically update whenever you log on to the Net ....

I used McAfee one year some years back. Went back to Norton for past several years, very pleased.

Symantec's Norton products are great, but their customer service past sales sucks & they don't treat their employees very well.

I have Norton's now b/c it came w/ this computer. When it expires I will go back to AVG through grisoft.com. It is a free virus protection program that has the automatic updates, is very user friendly and has always been very reliable for me. I honestly would pay more for it than either Norton's or McAfee if it weren't free.
